  1. Impressive cutting Ron, looking forward to seeing it finished!
  2. Keep in mind Danish oil is not a topcoat. This may be fine for you. For me, I always use a topcoat.
  3. Nice work!
  4. Gary, I’m not a fan of using blue painters tape as I spend too much time trying to remove the tape. I glue the pattern directly to the wood using 3M Super 77. Spray on the adhesive to the back of the pattern, let it set up for about 30 seconds then apply to the wood. I don’t have any problem with the pattern lifting. To remove the pattern I heat the pattern with a heat gun and the pattern lifts right up. If the heat gun doesn’t work, I spritz on some mineral spirits and let it sit for a minute or two, and the pattern will lift right off! I keep mineral spirits in a spray bottle for this purpose.
  5. Nice work Gary. I’m curious what you soak them in. I usually wipe of the excess oil with a blue shop towel, then let them sit on the drying rack. No need for a drip pan and things dry faster.
  6. Very nice project Edward!
  7. Russell is a great pattern maker and you are an expert scroll sawer!
  8. I agree with a John, great cutting and please don’t be shy about posting your work!
  9. No, I did not get the pendulum working. The clock keeps perfect time and the chimes work perfectly, but the pendulum wouldn’t move when I set it up this year. I’ll have to remember to buy a new movement before next year.
  10. Very clever. Beats rolling over the end of the tape like I do.
  11. Welcome to the village Don. Hopefully you will be getting a saw soon. It is really a fun tool to use. Come back and ask questions and Merry Christmas!
  12. Great work Kevin, now it’s time to take a break and get some rest!
  13. Very nice indeed! It should give you a warm feeling when you see something you made so prominently displayed!
  14. It came out great!
  15. Great looking project Ron!
  16. This was a special order from a customer. I had about a week to cut, finish and send it across the country. The original pattern had a guitar on it, but the customer didn’t want it. 1/4” Red Oak with a Walnut backer, also 1/4”. 5” wide 6” long
  17. That is so cool Rick! Very creative!
  18. Beautiful work Thomas! Can you tell us about the geared Heart?
  19. Excellent work Tammi! It must be a trial watching football games in their house!
  20. Nice work Fran! I would love to see a pic of it installed over the door.
  21. Excellent looking project Edward!
  22. I love it Al, nice work!
  23. That looks cool Charlie!
  24. Well said John! All to often I skim through these and tell myself I need to Come back and comment, then I forget to come back and comment! And for the folks who are afraid to post pictures of their projects, please post them, we want to see what you are doing!
  25. Matt, just because a wood has open pores does not make it weaker. Woods with open grains may be weaker, but not necessarily open pores. I use Walnut all the time for fretwork. I even use it for ornaments usually in 3/16” without any problems. As with any hardwood, you want to orient the pattern for the best possible grain strength, but it should be fine to cut.
