  1. welp, the saga continues. i tried calling the local post office for 2 hours yesterday morning. apparently answering the phone isnt in their contract. no delivery of a package so up to the post office. "you dont have a PO box??" "never have had one, too." "ot wasnt delivered today?" "i wouldnt be here if it was." 15 minutes later:"let me get your phone number. our computer is saying the same thing-that its at a PO box but we dont see anything. it might be on the truck out for delivery and was missed." if i dont have it today i think the USPS is going to eat some money for a package that was supposed to be delivered on the 10th. think ive been patient enough.
  2. i get lost on that site dreaming.:)
  3. heres a good sight describing the different mahoganies: https://www.wood-database.com/wood-finder/?fwp_name=M&fwp_paged=2 ya may want to take a look at brazilian cherry. it is quite similar to most of the exotics, though: different trees can produce different color hues.ive had pieces that were a deep dark red and ones that looked like regular old north american cherry. padauk is another one with red hues.however, the red can fade/darken so needs a UV finish on it. that site has a good article on preventing color changes: https://www.wood-database.com/wood-articles/preventing-color-changes-in-exotic-woods/ it reads like the red cedar you have may have been cut close to the sapwood. it does splinter/split rather easily, but it does smell good.
  4. this is a new one. woke up this morning and have an email from usps: "Your item has been delivered and is available at a PO Box at 7:05 pm on October 13, 2018." i dont have a PO box.
  5. yeah but if ya dont have the "stay off my lawn" sign yet yer still young.
  6. ordered from bear woods. ive gotten things on the slow boat from china faster.
  7. welp, parts were sposed to be delivered by 8pm thursday the 11th. friday morning i get an email: "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility." looks like im workin in the yard this weekend.
  8. ocooch hardwoods. http://www.ocoochhardwoods.com/ ive been ordering from them for a few years with no problems
  9. one more day and my new pegas clamps will be here! about time,too- im running out of other stuff to do.
  10. are you referring to the bark here?
  11. make no mistake foxfold- we were all greenhorns at this at one time. very few jump on a scrollsaw and "get it." myself, i had many times i had to walk away from the scrollsaw and that can still happen. theres still times i end up just makin big pieces of wood smaller and they end up in the firepit, but it doesnt happen as often as 13 years ago. i made some seriously fancy kindling back then. even after 13 years and hundreds of hours on the scrollsaw, im still just practicing.
  12. thanks for the offer! not a bad roadtrip to me.i used to live in west branch. was diagnosed stage 3c metastatic melanoma in '06. care was at U of M cancer center Ann Arbor. 300 mile round trip. did it many, many, many times over the next 2 1/2 years. then every 3 months for a few years. plus, lots of roadtrips around northern michigan over the years. tunnel of trees out of harbor springs was at least every fall and 10 hours driving( usually riding on the scooter but occasionally in the car) roundtrip but well worth it. it would be a great reason to head that way and hit up the gilmore museum that ive been wanting to go to for quite a few years. buuut, im gonna be working between raindrops this weekend putting new windows in a family friends house.
  13. ray at seyco is awesome. no problem cancelling order and pegas clamps ordered. cmon mailman!!! oooo- there he goes. think ill go see if there here. yeah, a wee bit antsy to get back to scrolling. a little antsy to get past the holidays and start on my winter project, too!
  14. sidetracked!! gotta call first think in the AM.
  15. welp, if ya have to make a 30" rip and dont have 30" of fence on the left side but 30" on the right,it might matter.
  16. well crap- i already prdered from seyco. gonna go see if i can cancel the order now.
  17. after getting the VS fixed on my excaliber i was making quite a bit of dust. having an enjoyable day in the shop and wouldnt ya know it, the top blade clamp decided to strip its threads. i guess 4 years and a jillion times threading through holes finally wore it out. i have faith ray at seyco will have me back in business before the weekend. now i have no excuse to put some finish and ribbons on ornaments!
  18. i havent found a better topcoat for ourdoor signs that the unpigmented(non tinted) sherwin williams A100. i have a log cabin bird feeder with white oak for framing and cedar shake shingles that i put out 5 years ago, which the feeder is on a stand i screwed into a tree.. 3 coats of A100 and its still in great shape after 5 michigan weather years.
  19. kev, if ya dont have one yet, ya may want to consider a wixey gage for getting the blade perfectly 90 degrees to the table. comes in handy for other things, too. i use it to check my drill press table alignment with the chuck.
  20. foxfold, if ya figure out how to switch them over to red, can ya let us know? i still cant figure it out. cut one pattern that had red lines and what a breeze it was. but cant figure out how to make black lines red on my printer.
  21. them freud(diablo) 7 1/4" blades are good,too.
  22. i thought i read something about direct drives not having the depth capacity of belt? the blade wont raise up as high on direct drive?and something about blade tilt- something like direct drives dont tilt as far as belt drive?
  23. on a table saw its possible as long at the hole matches the arbor. i used to run a 7 1/4 combo" blade for a long time. they have enough capacity to cut at least 1 1/2" thick material on a TS.
  24. i have an 80 tooth freud in my chopsaw, another 80 tooth that goes on my ts plus a combo and glue line rip all freud. personally dont think the glue line rip was worth it and it collects a lot of dust but the others can get a workout. the combo stays on the TS the most and has been a workhorse. i have had it for about 8 years now with 1 sharpening so far. they all cut real good for me. IF i were to look at a different brand of blade it would be an infinity https://www.infinitytools.com/saw-blades-accessories/table-saw/table-saw-blades/combination-saw-blades pretty good prices on their saw blade packages ive read nothing but praise for them, too. great place for jointer/planer blades, too.
