  1. them solids/pigments that make the color really like to settle at the bottom of the cans. the longer the can sits on the shelf the more difficult it can be to get em back into suspension. ive had cans ive had to shake for 5 minutes until i could hear the rattle ball hitting metal on the bottom of the can. when i pick up a can for a project, one thing i do is shake it, then set it upside down on the bench for a day or so. then shake again when ready. seems to help break up the pigments/solids.
  2. gonna be the largest scrollsawing scar ever!
  3. because nobody outside of texas cares about the cowboys.
  4. prolly sposed to be a woodworking/shop related,"what did you do today?" thing, but i havent had much shop time lately.however, i did take this little lady for an outing yesterday(ive been volunteering at a local dog/cat rescue) and it was awesome! funny little girl- all lap dog pet me! in the car or in her kennel. get on some trails and i dont exist. too many scents! and today-wheel bearings on my car. them pics arent as exciting.
  5. usually, but not always, the bar code stickers are on the back/bottom side of ply. when i get a large sheet to cut down, ill run a pencil line about every 16" across the 4' so i can tell after cutting which way is up.
  6. i use medium CA. dabs in fragile areas, a bead around the perimeter and here and there. lay it on the backer, weight it down for 10-20 minutes and done. works good on painted backers, too.
  7. for finish, general finishes 450 or sherwin williams A100 non tinted. both are long lasting. theyre both water based (acrylic latex or sumthin like that) and easy to use. the SW is a house paint and non tinted is without the pigments so it dries clear. theyre both white in the can but dry clear-when applied in thin coats
  8. ive enever even watched game of thrones but when asked,"can you build a dog toy box with a game of thrones theme?" ill at least look into what the theme would be. and my shop helper, pete thedog, that felt like catchin some rays today.
  9. When should you draw the line? there is no line. one can never have too much stuff. there is a law that once stuff is removed from the shop it WILL be needed within 7 days.
  10. im not sure what the audience he is going for. the table saw reviews seem to be pointing towards a homeowner that doesnt know much about woodworking-id put #6,7,8,and 10 at the top. however, that site gets $$$ everytime someone clicks on the links
  11. the plywood they sell in 1/4"- yes, it chips on me,too. its a very very thin veneer of .......im not even sure its a species of birch. ive only used RT blades on it,though, and its been some time since ive used that ply for more than a backer. a 2 way cut blade might make less chipout what are you using it for, edward? if its for portrait work, the chipout might not even be seen after a backer goes on.
  12. acrylic paints and an acrylic clear such as the sherwin williams A100 non tinted or general finishes exterior 450. coat all 6 sides of the sign.
  13. clear stain is stain without the pigments. basically the base for stains. its the same with house paints-sherwin williams A100 non tinted is an excellent clear for outdoor projects but is also used as the base for colors(tinted) in auto painting, there is a basecoat that has the color(pigments). dont add the pigment and it is used as an intercoat clear.
  14. i have the white line on the adjustment knob, too. as with yours and others, the knob does turn and at one point i was having serious problems. turned out the knob had made a complete 360 without me noticing. thought my blades were gettin shorter, too! after getting it back to where is supposed to be using the line on the knob, i noticed its real easy to know its parallel. one full turn out of alignment can be seen with the eye.
  15. even when i have plain(or flat) sawn thats down to a low moisture content(6-10%) it cups. them internal stresses really come out.
  16. welcome. cutting pine will do that- it will be a little harder to cut through the growth rings then get easy. in this picture, youre probably having a hard time with the dark summer wood. what blade brand and type are you using? that can make a difference, too
  17. i believe its either carbon dioxide or monoxide that are by products, too. for the NG and LP anyways.
  18. if your using an oil based stain, spray the wood with mineral spirits, let it soak in, wipe off the excess, then apply the stain.
  19. i think the degree of tilt recommended would be whatever is comfortable for the operator. i dont think scroll saws can have too much forward tilt.
  20. along with tuning the saw, is it bolted down to a bench/stand?
  21. ive read a lot of people happy with their bosch 1617 routers. the VS comes in handy when using larger diameter bits. they like to run at slower rpm's.
  22. this is on my list for the winter. gettin it all finished and glued into place meticulously should be a challenge.
  23. i havent read anyone complain about spending the $$ for a quality tool. i have read-and complained myself- about spending too little on a lesser quality tool.
  24. just in time as the TOM foundation- a non profit organization helping people named Tom in my shop further their woodworking skills- is accepting TAX DEDUCTABLE donations to help other woodworkers in my shop with names other than tom! excellent score and im sure you are going to find some awesome pieces to create with all that.
