  1. Awww. How do you get the sawdust out of that coat? Rob
  2. Maybe I should, but I'm not sure I want to be cured! Rob
  3. Another trivet about six inches across by one inch thick reclaimed rimu. Rob
  4. Top job. Looks like the horse is on fire! Where did you find the pattern? Rob
  5. I dip in 50/50 BLO first then glue with ordinary wood glue to a 3mm MDF backer painted with mat black rattle can paint. When dry I trim flush with a bearing guided router cutter. I rarely have problems with adhesion but sometimes it's tricky to apply the glue quick enough to cover the cutting before it starts to dry out. Judging how much top apply to prevent squeeze out takes practice but I clean up with a cocktail stick as best I can. Rob
  6. Great logo Ken and Bob. I guess you can use "scale" in both senses of the word with your boats being models. Now you need to cut it. Be sure to post when you do. Rob
  7. Those are great. I'm sure they will be appreciated. Rob

    Another trivet

Thanks Stevan. It was actually the front panel from a drawer just under an inch thick. I buy broken furniture or drawer boxes from the council recycling centre. I am fortunate that rimu was used extensively for building and furniture in New Zealand so it is relatively easy to find although it is now a protected species only milled under permit. Rob
  9. Today I cut this trivet from an Islamic geometric design. Just for fun, here is the piece of reclaimed rimu I used. I know I should have cleaned it up first but I wanted to get cutting.... I was almost tempted to leave the old paint on one side but in the end sanded it off then dipped it in 50/50 BLO and applied a beeswax topcoat. Rob
  10. I love the way you set your names out Kevin. The heart for the dot of the "i" in Lori for example. You always come up with something different and they look great. Rob
  11. I think the colour adds something but what about doing just the word "Beach" in colour and leaving the two end pieces natural? That would make the "Beach" stand out even more but you would lose the nice contrast where the dolphin nose and tail enter the water. Just a thought, but maybe you can experiment and see what you like. Rob
  12. You could make a larger top and use wooden turn-buttons around the edge of the original table to hold it in place. That would make it easy to remove and replace and should work I would think? Rob
  13. Great job. Crisp lettering and the burning sets it off a treat. Rob
  14. That looks great Denny. I plan to cut that one too at some point. Rob
  15. Beautiful toys and a great way to wind your brother up! Rob
  16. Wow, that's great Dave. Awesome job! Rob
  17. Not sure where I found the pattern for this one. Chrysanthemum trivet about 6 inches or 15cm diameter. 53 holes in all. Rob
  18. Great cutting Edward, very cool! Rob
  19. Wow. How can you bear to part with it? Rob
  20. Those are awesome! The knot at the top left of the eagle/phoenix one even looks like an eye. The burning really adds to the pieces. Well done. I love the Banksy one too. Rob
  21. Sorry to hear about your light Marge. It looks like mine, so I checked. Yep, mine is the exact same model number..... I bought it around May last year and also threw the box out. I'm hoping mine doesn't go the same way. Rob
  22. Nothing less than perfection as usual Dave. What font do you use for the first three plaques? It's beautiful. Rob
  23. Great work. I particularly like the moose or caribou but the pyrography is excellent too. Rob
  24. Rectangular trivet cut from reclaimed rimu but as yet unfinished. 29cm x 14.5cm or 11.5" x 5.75" approx. Pattern is from craftsmanspace.com
  25. Wow, that is different but I really like it. Such a pity about the little break. Perhaps you can insert a small block at the break point to hold it together? I don't think it would spoil the overall look. Rob
