  1. Well you haven't lost your touch Keith. Two very nice pieces there. Rob
  2. Last time I saw an Aussie sledge it was at the cricket! Lovely cuts though Marg, Rob
  3. Love the pattern. You did a great job cutting it too. Rob
  4. Magnifying lamp and sanding mop as others have mentioned. If you buy a router a bearing guided flush trim bit makes short work of cutting backers flush. A compressor is great for cleaning up work pieces after sanding and clearing dust from your saw etc. Rob
  5. Beautifully cut and some great patterns too, Rob
  6. Very nice Tony. Good to see you back. Rob
  7. Thanks Len. Some vendors had more room but they have been doing it longer than me. There were 70 applicants for 30 stalls so I feel lucky to have been accepted. Once I am more established, I will see if I can negotiate a bit more space. Rob
  8. Thanks Rolf, Yes, the Peace Nativity sold quickly and the Christmas Mooses were popular but none of my other Christmas items sold. Christmas is a bit different down here in the Southern Hemisphere with it being summertime so I didn't make too many Christmas items. Talking to another vendor, they don't do Christmas stuff at all any more having been left with unsold stock in previous years. Good luck with your event, Rob
  9. Thanks Dave Rob
  10. Congratulations Edward. Great result! Rob
  11. Thanks Russell. The Tui on the Flax Flower is indeed a simple cut. It is a beautiful piece of Rimu from an old dresser top that I picked up for $1 and still have a couple of feet left. It get's lots of positive comments but no one has bought it yet. I made it after advertising a smaller version on TradeMe (the kiwi version of Ebay). Someone asked for a larger version, I made it, sent them a picture and price and never heard from them again. Annoying but there you go. The mooses sold well. I think it always helps to have a low priced item amongst your offering. Rob
  12. Thanks Roly. Everyone thought the mooses were cute and they sold well. I added a little white glitter to the tips of the antlers even though it is summer here! They are a great use of scraps too. Thanks for sharing the pattern! Rob
  13. Why not try it Marg? It can be a long day and being on your feet and smiling at everyone and talking to them can be quite tiring but I really quite enjoy it. I only do it every couple of months and it is an indoor market so no need to worry about gazebo's, tables etc. It is just arrive, unpack and sell. It definitely helps if you can take credit/debit cards though. My biggest problem is the small table and deciding what to display. I need to design some better display stands to maximise the space available. Rob
  14. Great job on the card holder Jerry. I made that one too. That lettering is pretty small as I recall ! Rob
  15. This was my third craft fair, held in a local village hall. Weather was good, about 20C or 70F and quite a good turnout. I was off the main hall to one side which was not a great position but took $400. On the whole I'm pretty happy with that since my raw materials cost almost nothing, being salvaged from the local recycling centre. Thanks to Russell, Roly and Grandpa amongst others whose patterns I used. Tables are limited to 6 foot by 2 foot 3 which is not very generous. I need to improve my display for next time. Rob
  16. Congratulations Lee but how anything of yours sells for only $45 I'll never know. I know it's tough valuing your own work but I reckon you could up your prices a bit. Rob
  17. Sadly not Len. I agree that you need to glue them before applying the finish though. An oil finish would be easiest since you could pour it liberally over the entire piece while turning it to get into all the nooks and crannies but I'm not convinced an oil finish on pine will give a good result. Mineral oil might be an alternative but I don't like that it never really dries. I might try wax but would melt it first to apply it in liquid form and buff it once dry with a natural bristle brush. Probably though I will just leave it natural and hope it develops a patina from being handled. I will take it to my next craft fair tomorrow to hold some of Roly's Christmas Mooses and hope it generates some discussion on how it is made. Perhaps I will even sell it if anyone is interested. Rob
  18. That makes a great gift Dave. I love everything about it, the pattern, chain and your usual top class cutting. Well done, Rob
  19. Thanks for all the work you put into your patterns Russell. It is very generous of you to share them freely and much appreciated. Rob
  20. Thanks Kevin. You may need to get out more though! Rob
  21. I'm really not sure Len. Usually I use 50/50 BLO, satin polyurethane spray or oil and beeswax. What would you suggest? Rob
  22. Thanks for the tip Rusty, I'll take a look. Rob
  23. This was fun to cut and put together. Cut from a piece of pine I found at the recycling centre. Pattern by Birchbark, Thanks Russell

What an undertaking. I sincerely hope you only have one daughter...! Rob
  25. That's a great idea for a pattern and what a unique gift. Rob
