  1. COOL !!!
  2. Looks purdy darn good to me
  3. I stacked the walnut on top of the basswood. Made darn sure my saw blade was 90 degrees, used the smallest blade I have (don't know the size for sure, but I need a magnifying glass to see the teeth) cut thru both, then glue the backer on and drop the walnut in like a puzzle.
  4. Delete, duplicate post
  5. I had a similar piece of wood hanging around for a couple of years. The wolf is actually a portrait pattern that I inlaied into the blank. The wolf head is walnut. Chris
  6. Well, I take a whole different approach. If I need 3 I cut 5 then toss the bottom and top one, because the top one has the pattern and the bottom most of the time has plenty of tear out.. I stack 1/8" baltic birch together then hot glue the edges. I use a Flying Dutchman Polar 2/0 with the saw going as slow as it will go., The Lincoln in my profile was done this way. The other factor is not to push to hard and bend the blade too much like Sparkey mentioned. Enjoy...Chris
  7. Guess I'm lucky. I have a lumber mill just 10 minutes away and they carry all the woods I've even needed (Oak, Maple, Walnut, Butternut t name a few) and will mill it to what I want. And you cant beat the smell of the place when you walk in !!!!!
  8. Looks dang good to me !!!!
  9. Joe, I've done a few projects like this in the past, I would recommend a dark backer like walnut. It will really make the deer pop !! I always finished mine with satin poly.

No clock for this project. Just cant bring myself to put one on, it would take away from the Wolf.
  11. Did some searching on this and come to the conclusion that they are asking way to much for the saw. They want $250 for it. The search continues. ....
  12. I have a line on an Excalibur EX-11. Can anybody tell me anything about it? Chris
  13. Nice !, Love the covered bridge stuff.

I probably should have explained the project a bit better in the first post. The wolf is 1/4" walnut inlayed into a pine blank I got from Michels. The pattern I've had for some time, it came from a magazine a few years back, I think it was "Creative Woodwork and Crafts" but don't quote me. Chris

Here's my dilemma, I originally started this project with the intent of making it a clock, but now at this point I'm not so sure. It kinda looks all right just like it is. Needs finish, but other wise I'm not sure about adding the clock stuff. So...what do ya'll think? Clock/no clock? Chris
  18. I like the lighting for the parrot, I would suggest however to black out the eye, I think it give it a more "live" look, just a thought. The lighting though, very cool, it's got me thinking !!!!
  19. After many years of trying different blades i've setteled on Flying Dutchman Polar. Mostly 2/0 and 5.
  20. Howdy !!!!!
  21. Heres the problem. I usally work with 1/4" wood. Some of the hard maple I recently got has a slight cup in it. Not much, if you lay the board down the middle of the board is about a 1/4" higher than the edges, the board is 11" wide. Is there a way to flatten the board, and will that method work on all wood varities? Chris
  22. Hey Joe, Welcome. My only piece of advice is Flying Dutchman Scroll saw baldes. I get mine from Mike's Workshop (http://www.mikesworkshop.com/blades.htm) Plenty of choices and outstanding blades. Things to think about are a drill press, or a Dremel, I use micro drill bits for started holes. Good luck and enjoy.... Chris
  23. One idea I had is a heart with the infinity symbol intertwined. Tried to add a picture here, but cant figure out how. Anyhow maybe something you can use or build on. Chris
  24. I've cut most everything form red oak 1 1/2 thick to 1/8 baltic birch ply. Absoulty love the Flying Dutchman blades. Discovered them about 15 years ago if memory serves me, I've settled on the polar ones, I use the 2/0, 5, and 9's they're all I've needed for the past several years. Heck, I've even cut thru 1/8 metel with them ! Chris
