  1. Very good looking paint job. This is not going to sound good, but they look like some mass produced decor items from a big box store.
  2. Central Indiana sending along greetings and a welcome.
  3. Thought about giving the post a "like" but "WOW" seemed more appropriate.
  4. Really neat image and great cutting. Huge pat on the back.
  5. Not real sure. It's been in the cut pile for better than a year. I prototyped it in BB from the actual pattern, then enlarged it 33% to make it close to 4 inches.
  6. Got a bit of a jump on Christmas ornaments for the family this year. Did 36 of these in 1/8" alder and walnut. Beautiful stock from Ocooch and Watco gloss to finish--with a dot of Unicorn Spit for Rudolph. Stack cut in groups of four with #2 and #3 MGT Pegas blades I picked up from @Denny Knappen on my way through Tennessee this spring. Comments and critique always welcome. (No idea where the yellowish cast on photo came from)
  7. Quite a piece. Amazing.
  8. Like Denny, I have had one problem and it was handled immediately and I have always received great stock from them for years. Going right now to work on a stack of 1/4" walnut.
  9. The birdhouses were published as an article in one of the magazines a few years ago. Multiple shapes of the houses. Through the years, I have lost which magazine/edition due to many copies and I cut off the information. The artist was the late Diana Thompson.
  10. I have tried taping stacks and it works for a couple of sheets, but I am firmly in the clamp and then hot glue the edges. You just have to avoid getting a bubble of glue below the bottom layer. Trim it off because dried hot glue doesn't slide on v the table. Even the slightest drop will grab your table.
  11. Central Indiana peeking over the cornstalks to say hello and send along a big wave.
  12. Just did my count. Need a minimum of 36. When I started this tradition, I think it was about 20. Marriages, kids, etc. have grown the list. (And that doesn't include the juveniles--under 18--they get something different.
  13. Already prototyped one of mine, wood has arrived--just waiting on a block of free time to glue and drill.
  14. Been a while since I posted anything other than comments of smiley faces, so here's a couple I have been working on. Growth cart is pretty straightforward, letters and numbers cut from 1/8" ply and finished with gloss black. Mounted on 1 x 10 x 6 lightly stained and rub on poly top coat. Inch marks are from a paint marker. Second is an 8 x 10 commercial frame with handwritten sentiments from all four grandparents. Again 1/8" ply with flat black on flat white backer. Cut with FD Superior Puzzle blades. Spirals would have probably been easier, but I wanted the slick finish of a flat blade. Comments and criticism always welcome/expected.
  15. I paint my birds since i just cut them from square poplar dowel stock. I put some detail in mine, just to challenge myself.
  16. The last time I used primer, I did not get the primer coat knocked down sufficiently and the black gloss really showed the imperfections. After I recut the pieces, I gave the wood a light touch of 220 grit, blew the dust away and laid down a couple of thin coats of the gloss. Not exactly a mirror finish, but pretty stinkin' good for an old guy with rattle cans.
  17. How about using your laser to cut a mask from shelf liner and use etching chemicals on the mirror? You would have to get a good seal, but rolling the mask/stencil would get a better seal. That way, you don't have to fit the entire mirror body in the chamber.
  18. There are no secrets on scrolling here in The Village, so fire away with questions; look through thousands of posts to see how others have done it; or just watch the current feed hoping for knowledge. Probably, the best solution is to fire away with questions!
  19. Missed this the first time around. Excellent work.
  20. "I hear the train a'comin', it's comin' round the bend" Fantastic detail.
  21. I missed this the first time around. That's why my reactions are so late. Still great work.
  22. Sawdust on the fingertips is like that beam of sunlight hitting your face.
  23. Awesome piece of work. The finish looks like an epoxy dip.
  24. I had a headband magnifier, but after my cataracts surgery, I switched to reading glasses with a +2 lens. Only use it periodically, but they make a difference up close.
