  1. Not "addiction", but "obsession". Although, I am sort of addicted to the aromas of sawdust and lacquer.
  2. So sad to hear about this. The piece and the sentiment are wonderful. Sounds like lots of great memories.
  3. Great job cutting, painting and fitting. Super nice sentiment.
  4. Sawdust doesn't cure physical ailments, but it sure soothes the soul. Good to see you cutting wood.
  5. Really great. Is that your design?
  6. Take a few minutes and give Denny a call (DM if you need the number). He will help you pick blades based on your wants and needs and help your learning curve. Everyone has a favorite blade or two and you will develop your own go to set up as you progress. Some here like smaller and others seem to be a fan of bigger, heavier blades. Just like some of us like our blades pulled just a bit tighter.
  7. On my way. I'll stop and get some Amish butter.
  8. Just minor differences in blade tensioning, the mechanics of inserting blades etc. In a way, it was like learning the wiper and cruise controls on a different car. Unlearning one set of muscle memories and training new ones.
  9. I have owned the 788 and now a Pegas. When I had the 788, I seemed to top feed mostly and now on the Pegas, it is very largely bottom feed. Just seemed to be the way the saw guided me. I had installed Pegas clamps on the 788. I do like the arm hold on the Pegas. I had very little adjustment moving between the saws as far as operation.
  10. You may have to buy a cheap topper and repurpose the spring from it.
  11. I don't know for sure when I bought my first saw, but I was cutting Cub Scout Pinewood Derby cars for my now 30 year old son and I am on my fourth and final saw now nd treasure my time on the stool behind my Delta, Hitchai, Dewalt and Pegas. Scrolling is my tension relief, my calming influence and the folks driving saws across the world are family.
  12. Big old "Holy Smokes" on that one!
  13. I have to echo Denny's post. Fine work.
  14. Pegas clamps are the way to if you are serious about keeping the 788. It is a true upgrade to the factory clamp.
  15. She found something like this on Etsy or Pinterest and asked me if I could make one. This was special because the wood came from ancestral land--about 50 yards from where they got engaged.
  16. Does he want a traditional (finished/polished) box or a more rustic one. I made a rustic one for my son's wedding from a slice of tree limb and a rotary hinge. I'll find a picture if you want.
  17. I have drawn blood twice on the scroll saw: First time was pure inattention and the second was a tight cut and I had a sudden sneeze when my finger was too close. Hurts like crazy, but doesn't do much damage. On the other hand, I have trimmed a fingernail or two through the years.
  18. Some of those hit a wee bit too close!
  19. Since I will be off the saw for a while healing from cataract surgery, I thought I would get some stuff cut so I would have painting and assembly stuff to keep me busy. So I made me a pattern from a clip art of some holly leaves and went to Staples to resize and copy. Got home and cut the larger pieces, painted them and decided I needed more, so I hit the pattern stack grabbed another sheet (forgetting I played with the percentages) and cut a bunch of the small ones. Went to put them away and realized they were about half size! As a final act of futility, I cut the middle size because I read the percentage wheel wrong and burned more copies wrong.
  20. It was as reading exercise?? I've just about wrecked my calculator trying to solve the Algebra problem.
  21. We have had heat and then we did some traveling. I am trying to get a bunch of stuff cut before my cataracts in mid and late July. I will have stuff to paint and glue up post surgery, if I can just get deeper into the cut list. (Silly me, I almost said "to the bottom" of the cut list. We know there is no bottom, just turn the page!)
  22. This morning cold earth fallacy has been around for years. The amount of heat required to penetrate the pavement, then the layers of gravel and earth just to get to the tanks would make the earth inhabitable. Then the amount of BTUs needed to heat thousands of liters of liquids would be mind boggling.
  23. Trying to get done before cataract surgery.
  24. Trying to get some stuff done before I get my cataracts addressed, I am making embellishments for some scrabble tile name ornaments. I found the blanks for these at Hobby Lobby which saved me a ton of time sourcing 1/16" ply and cutting it to strips. The snowflakes have two light coats of shaker can white and the holly is handpainted with Unicorn Spit (full strength). Dime added for scale. Cut these in 10 to 14 piece stacks--but they are fragile.
  25. Excellent pattern and cutting. Got to see her twice in concert. Shame that voice has been silenced.
