  1. Really good looking. How fast do you need it to dry? Dipping finishes and quick drying are generally two different items. JT has a good idea with Danish oil, but it not a particularly rapid dry.
  2. Heads up: They tend to pay with smiles. It's a universal currency.
  3. Only 8 months older than me. Really hits when you start looking a same birth year.
  4. Got one granddaughter toddling around (half crawl, half wobbly walk) and another, as of yet unknown, coming in July. It's really neat when they start to recognize you and smile at you. Better get the "Baby's first ..." ornament patterns laid out.
  5. Great looking piece. Steady hand and determination.
  6. I totally missed this, but at this point, happy December 27.
  7. Mike's has changed hands, but is still a great representative of FD blades. Mike sold the business to folks who have a strong reputation, like he built.
  8. Another option is Unicorn Spit. Good pigments and goes on smooth. Water cleanup.
  9. Looks really good here. We are our own worst critic.
  10. Great cut and fit. Hearty applause from here.
  11. Great lettering work. Pat yourself on the back.
  12. Welcome to the world of scrolling where we just continue to dig, thinking we will find the bottom of the hole.
  13. Looking at that board, the solder joints are definitely either flow joints or hot paste--commercial stuff. In a past job, I made thousands of hand soldered joints and the consistency of those joints tell me it came from a factory. the chip makes me wonder if the light blinks or runs through a dimming pattern.
  14. Magnificent work on this one. As Barb said, you seem to have a firm grip on the technique.
  15. WD40 is not a lubricant per se. It does feel oily, but it is not marketed or intended as a true lubricant (says the guy who liberally sprays his garden tools with the stuff). There are lots of true lubes available in almost any viscosity.
  16. I like the light visually, but the dark really changes the color saturation of the inlays.
  17. Don't know about the circular bulbs, but in normal tubes, they make two types: one that works with your existing ballast and the other you clip the ballast out of the circuit and just use your 117VAC supply wires.
  18. Drop in and update us from time to time.
  19. My glasses were the first thing I put on in the morning and last thing off at night. When scrolling and doing board level soldering, I frequently ended up looking over the frames. My major complaint to the eye doctors was a combination of rainbow halos around lights and tired, watery eyes. With the trifocal lenses I got, I still get halos, but they are the color of the light source and they seem to be hexagonal spiderwebs instead of the old circular pattern.
  20. I had surgery in July. For the most part, I have far better sight. But, even with the trifocal lenses, I have trouble on close in work. I have only scrolled a couple of simple pieces so far. You can't squint and adjust your vision like you've done before since your new lenses are not hooked to the muscles formerly used for focusing. I did have issues soldering some silver plated rings with silver solder.
  21. Another vote for leave it alone.
  22. I'm with Bill. Text of any type is nerve wracking since there is zero tolerance. You captured it well on some good looking stock.
  23. There was an attempt to form a club in Indianapolis many years ago at Rockler, but the travel on Saturday morning was the detriment. I was driving nearly an hour each way and others were even farther out. There is a scroller in the county east of here, but he has largely become the assistant in his wife's stained glass shop.
  24. Wonderful cuttings and paint work. Sure to be treasured. Don't need to tell you, but please sign and date this art.
  25. I went Monday and they only had a picture. The manager is an old friend from my retail days--I will ask her to call when they get another.
