  1. The designers are the artists. I am but a technician rendering an image.
  2. I bought a Delta from Lowe's, but it was missing the hardware kit to mount the table. Returned it same day and they had no more. Ended up buying a single speed Delta from a pawn shop. It was like new and I used it for quite a while--until the blower ruptured. Cut a few Pinewood Derby cars on the thing and my first family Christmas ornaments.
  3. Not "addiction", but "obsession". Although, I am sort of addicted to the aromas of sawdust and lacquer.
  4. So sad to hear about this. The piece and the sentiment are wonderful. Sounds like lots of great memories.
  5. Great job cutting, painting and fitting. Super nice sentiment.
  6. Sawdust doesn't cure physical ailments, but it sure soothes the soul. Good to see you cutting wood.
  7. Really great. Is that your design?
  8. Just minor differences in blade tensioning, the mechanics of inserting blades etc. In a way, it was like learning the wiper and cruise controls on a different car. Unlearning one set of muscle memories and training new ones.
  9. I have owned the 788 and now a Pegas. When I had the 788, I seemed to top feed mostly and now on the Pegas, it is very largely bottom feed. Just seemed to be the way the saw guided me. I had installed Pegas clamps on the 788. I do like the arm hold on the Pegas. I had very little adjustment moving between the saws as far as operation.
  10. I don't know for sure when I bought my first saw, but I was cutting Cub Scout Pinewood Derby cars for my now 30 year old son and I am on my fourth and final saw now nd treasure my time on the stool behind my Delta, Hitchai, Dewalt and Pegas. Scrolling is my tension relief, my calming influence and the folks driving saws across the world are family.
  11. Big old "Holy Smokes" on that one!
  12. I have to echo Denny's post. Fine work.
  13. I have drawn blood twice on the scroll saw: First time was pure inattention and the second was a tight cut and I had a sudden sneeze when my finger was too close. Hurts like crazy, but doesn't do much damage. On the other hand, I have trimmed a fingernail or two through the years.
  14. We have had heat and then we did some traveling. I am trying to get a bunch of stuff cut before my cataracts in mid and late July. I will have stuff to paint and glue up post surgery, if I can just get deeper into the cut list. (Silly me, I almost said "to the bottom" of the cut list. We know there is no bottom, just turn the page!)
  15. Trying to get done before cataract surgery.
  16. Trying to get some stuff done before I get my cataracts addressed, I am making embellishments for some scrabble tile name ornaments. I found the blanks for these at Hobby Lobby which saved me a ton of time sourcing 1/16" ply and cutting it to strips. The snowflakes have two light coats of shaker can white and the holly is handpainted with Unicorn Spit (full strength). Dime added for scale. Cut these in 10 to 14 piece stacks--but they are fragile.
  17. Excellent pattern and cutting. Got to see her twice in concert. Shame that voice has been silenced.
  18. Another vote for hot glue. Clamp the stack and dabs of hot glue around the edges. Just make sure the glue doesn't protrude below the bottom layer. (Doesn't slide really good on the table)
  19. I missed this originally, but I am in awe. Great execution on a great pattern and your usual attention to detail.
  20. A family member (25F) is getting married in August and wanted something to honor deceased grandparents and others. Steve Good had a pattern for doll furniture that I reworked to make a flat seat. Forstner bit to make shallow candle holder and a friend lasered five names for me. Not sure how they will be displayed--individually or as a group.
  21. I knew it would look great after seeing the WIP, but it came out better than I thought. The finish really popped.
  22. I will add to the chorus extolling your design and execution! Any idea on cutting time?
  23. Looks like you've done your usual excellent work! Let me guess--cut with Vermont America blades from Joe's Hardware?
  24. Plywood gives strength. Going with thinner species stock will mean you will have to pay attention to the grain. I have cut hundreds of ornaments from 1/8" ply and there folks here using 1/16". Using good quality Baltic birch ply wakes all the difference as there generally no gaps or patches.
  25. I done business with them a few times and it is simple, quick and great quality. Not a paid endorsement, but this late in life I don't think I have to worry about amateur status--so if the family would like to sponsor an aging scroller--I would be their spokesman, wear their gear and show the sawdust I made with their product.
