  1. My grandkids loved their Pop Boxes. The drawers have several compartments, including a couple of secret ones. I put a few cool things in them to get them started, like a small metal top that will spin for over 5 minutes, a magnifying glass, a yo-yo, a cool rock, a 2 dollar bill, and one of those 4 color Bic pens that I wanted so badly when I was a kid. Hopefully they'll fill them with many treasures over the years.
  2. I felt the same way, but after watching the video it was fairly easy. I've never had two come out exactly alike but that's part of the fun of it.
  3. I’d seen the pattern but don’t remember seeing it cut. Fantastic job!
  4. For anyone who hasn't seen these, they are really fun. I did these three last night for grandkids. They look much better actual "tiny" size than blown up. I included the video demonstration.
  5. Thank you! Probably ugly unless you’re a fan but I love Willie. I heard a nice version of Pretty Paper this morning with Kenny Chesney and Willie.
  6. No, I just used clip art of a classical acoustic guitar. I rushed the whole process and it’s very rough work but if you’ve seen Trigger, that probably made it more realistic.
  7. I used a piece of faux sea glass as a nod to Willie’s Christmas song, “Pretty Paper. “ Of course the guitar is Willie’s timeworn Martin, “Trigger.”
  8. We went to the beach, Cape San Blas, Florida, for the week of Thanksgiving. This was our fourth trip there as a family and it's like a little time in Heaven. My grandkids learned that I loved Kitten Paw shells. Between what I picked up and what they all gave me I wound up with over 100. I've never found a piece of real sea glass.
  9. I've started making some faux sea glass with my rock tumbler, so I also made some fake drift wood with my scroll saw and sanders to make this cool Christmas Ornament. Very fun new offshoot of the hobby.
  10. That gorgeous, Marie! I can imagine your great great great grandchildren eating around it.
  11. Thanks. I got careless and nipped off a piece of my fingertip.
  12. Yes it could have been. I wasn’t sure how bad it was when it happened so I was both relieved and scared when I first looked at it. I have a friend who cut his right thumb off. That would really be a handicap. I plan to be much more careful in the future.
  13. Thank you. It’s been a week now and it’s still just as sensitive as ever, and I seem to bump it at least a dozen times a day. It has made a big impression on me and I’m sure I’ll be safer because of it.
  14. Thank you. Now I’ll always be on the lookout for unique little trinkets to give them for their boxes.
  15. I’ll defer this to @JTTHECLOCKMAN as I’m just learning about it myself.
  16. Thanks very much for the advice!
  17. I was just searching and Emtech is what I had found as well. I really like the idea because I do have an HVLP sprayer and I like how lacquer performs but don’t like dealing with the fumes and thinner. Now to decide how much to order. I’m thinking a gallon? Which probably means I need two.
  18. Thank you! I have never used a water based lacquer. Actually didn’t know there was such a thing, but I like the idea. Does it dry quickly like regular lacquer? Would there be a problem with sealing the inside with lacquer as well to simplify things?
  19. I know this is the wrong forum. Forgive me. This is what I was working on when I had the table saw mishap. I built these as Christmas presents for my 5 grandkids to keep their important stuff in. Like cool feathers, marbles, and pocketknives. They’ve all got a couple of “secret compartments” you access with a magnet. I’m looking for advise from folks who do more of this type thing on what sealer you would use after stain and how you’d apply it. I’m planning to leave the insides unfinished. IMG_4781.mov
  20. Oh wow, that’s nasty! Much easier to work around a cut index finger than a thumb. Glad you didn’t lose it. Also great that your cancer is under control!
  21. Beautiful! Glad I zoomed in. The beak is really cool.
  22. Simple and perfect!
  23. Great looking piece. I love how relief cutting works. The only thing that bothers me about it is most people probably think it’s just cut and glued on the board when it’s so much cooler than that. Shows I care too much what other people think I guess.
  24. That’s your traffic finger!
  25. Getting close to the end of a several weeks long project and got careless. Thankfully just a bit of a wake up call.
