  1. I’d seen the pattern but don’t remember seeing it cut. Fantastic job!
  2. For anyone who hasn't seen these, they are really fun. I did these three last night for grandkids. They look much better actual "tiny" size than blown up. I included the video demonstration.
  3. Thank you! Probably ugly unless you’re a fan but I love Willie. I heard a nice version of Pretty Paper this morning with Kenny Chesney and Willie.
  4. No, I just used clip art of a classical acoustic guitar. I rushed the whole process and it’s very rough work but if you’ve seen Trigger, that probably made it more realistic.
  5. I used a piece of faux sea glass as a nod to Willie’s Christmas song, “Pretty Paper. “ Of course the guitar is Willie’s timeworn Martin, “Trigger.”
  6. We went to the beach, Cape San Blas, Florida, for the week of Thanksgiving. This was our fourth trip there as a family and it's like a little time in Heaven. My grandkids learned that I loved Kitten Paw shells. Between what I picked up and what they all gave me I wound up with over 100. I've never found a piece of real sea glass.
  7. I've started making some faux sea glass with my rock tumbler, so I also made some fake drift wood with my scroll saw and sanders to make this cool Christmas Ornament. Very fun new offshoot of the hobby.
  8. Thanks. I got careless and nipped off a piece of my fingertip.
  9. Thank you. Now I’ll always be on the lookout for unique little trinkets to give them for their boxes.
  10. I’ll defer this to @JTTHECLOCKMAN as I’m just learning about it myself.
  11. Thanks very much for the advice!
  12. I was just searching and Emtech is what I had found as well. I really like the idea because I do have an HVLP sprayer and I like how lacquer performs but don’t like dealing with the fumes and thinner. Now to decide how much to order. I’m thinking a gallon? Which probably means I need two.
  13. Thank you! I have never used a water based lacquer. Actually didn’t know there was such a thing, but I like the idea. Does it dry quickly like regular lacquer? Would there be a problem with sealing the inside with lacquer as well to simplify things?
  14. I know this is the wrong forum. Forgive me. This is what I was working on when I had the table saw mishap. I built these as Christmas presents for my 5 grandkids to keep their important stuff in. Like cool feathers, marbles, and pocketknives. They’ve all got a couple of “secret compartments” you access with a magnet. I’m looking for advise from folks who do more of this type thing on what sealer you would use after stain and how you’d apply it. I’m planning to leave the insides unfinished. IMG_4781.mov
  15. Beautiful! Glad I zoomed in. The beak is really cool.
  16. Simple and perfect!
  17. Great looking piece. I love how relief cutting works. The only thing that bothers me about it is most people probably think it’s just cut and glued on the board when it’s so much cooler than that. Shows I care too much what other people think I guess.
  18. Oh well. No great loss.
  19. My Star Wars loving grandsons told me my truck looks like a Storm Trooper so I decided to lean into it. Guaranteed not to rust.
  20. Very cool!
  21. Great job! Cool present!
  22. Made a fun pick holder for my 8 year old grandson who just got a guitar for his birthday. Highly imperfect work but OK for a first try. Got off a bit with my templates making one side of the lid a bit thinner than the other. Proves it's hand made I suppose. Louidjy will forgive me. If anyone is interested I followed the instructions from a YouTube video called Scroll Saw Guitar Pick Holder from Acutabove Woodworking.
  23. Thank you! I’m sure I didn’t invent this process but in a lot of cases, like this one, the backer doesn’t stain as dark as I’d like. So I take a can of flat black spray paint and sort of fog it from a couple of feet away, then lightly wipe it with 0000 steel wool and repeat till I like the contrast. Then I spray it with a satin clear enamel. Works for me anyway.
  24. After cutting this I sat on my front porch and got still and quiet. My favorite squirrel got within a few feet from me. I can tell him apart because he's more brown than gray and has a skinnier tail. Lots of good things happen when we take the time to be still.
  25. Beautiful piece and some great clean cutting.
