  1. I’ve never done one of these as all I’d seen was a few celebrities and it didn’t seem worth the effort. I found a site called Spiral Betty where you can make your own patterns with lots of adjustments you can make like, orientation of lines, number of lines, contrast, etc. It didn’t turn out exactly as I’d envisioned but I’m thinking my granddaughter will like it.
  2. Very nice. I don’t think I’ve seen the light houses before.
  3. Those are very cool!
  4. Absolutely beautiful!!!
  5. Thanks. I sand it down to 400 grit and use a mixture of boiled linseed oil, mineral spirits, and poly. It still feels like natural wood which works since they’re made to hold. I think it’s basically homemade Danish oil. I got this maple at Woodcraft and picked a piece with lots of darker areas.
  6. Nothing new but I really like how this Ambrosia Maple looks on this bird. These have been a big hit among family and friends. .
  7. Beautiful work Barb!
  8. Thanks Marg. Each one comes out a little different due to the shaping, which I like. I think I've made 10 so far and haven't got to keep one for myself yet. I've done a few with maple or mahogany on top and oak underneath which gives them a nice look, like a bird with a lighter colored breast. I sand them down to 400 grit and finish with oil. They really are therapeutic to hold and rub with your fingers and thumb. My grandson who has ADD and loves to fidget loves his.
  9. Tried something new today. Comfort Birds. I started with a compound cut bird then used some different sanders to do the rounding and shaping. They feel great in your hand. I enjoyed carrying mine today while walking and reading. Kind of like a soothing fidget toy.
  10. Beautiful work, Barb! My wife loves succulents. I tried two of them and killed them both. This may be the route I should go.
  11. I love that. Nicely done!
  12. Just incredibly beautiful, Dave.
  13. Thank you. It’s a piece of oak from an old pallet. I’ve bought hundreds of dollars worth of wood. The prettiest ones with the most character are usually free.
  14. I’ve enjoyed making some simple things lately. My sister in law wanted a Celtic Cross. I found an outline I liked online to use as a pattern. I stack cut two 3/8” oak crosses, then removed the circle from the top one, routed it then glued them together
  15. I used a #3FDUR (Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse)
  16. I listened to both of those when I was cutting it.
  17. Love it! Here’s the scene above my reading chair.
  18. The cat’s meow!
  19. Thanks. Actually I like cutting oak because it’s slower, so mistakes don’t happen so quickly.
  20. Wow! I love the subject and the cutting. Excellent work! What size is it? I love all things LOTR but not sure I have the patience for that.
  21. Looks great! Perfect piece of wood.
  22. Simple piece that brings back memories of country church singing from my childhood.
  23. Holy cow, Dave! Looks like perfection to me. Fantastic cutting!
  24. Outstanding piece of art on the perfect background. Beautiful!
