  1. Thanks very much for the replies, lots of good info. I'm still trying to decide. BTW, I do have a DSLR, but still use my phone at times to get things done quickly.
  2. If this is better suited in another section, admin please move. I'm posting some of my scroll work online for sale and could use better pics. I believe my main problem is lighting. We live in the woods so getting the natural, indirect light most recommend is difficult. Sometimes I do ok outside, but that's not going to be a good option this winter. My thought is to get either one of the pop up, self contained light boxes that are lighting and back drop all in one or go full studio type lights and a roll up background. My preference is the smaller, cheaper light box, but am wondering if anyone has actual experience using one. Also if anyone can recommend specific ones I'd greatly appreciate it.
  3. Danish oil is just a mix of oil (usually tung or linseed), polyurethane resins and thinner, so coating it with poly is fine. The only problem I've ever had was not letting the oil cure long enough and having the top coat "wrinkle" or orange peel. I use danish oil or equivalent almost exclusively on things that don't see heavy use. It's plenty of protection.
  4. Excellent display and products. I really like your small Christmas tree to display ornaments. Definitely one of those now why didn't I think of that things
  5. I've had mine about a year and love it. Congrats!
  6. Kinda makes me feel dizzy (dizzier?). Great job
  7. Looks like you're all ready to go. We're doing our second of the year next weekend too. The first was kinda slow. Good luck to both of us!
  8. Definitely Flying Dutchman, #3 if I remember correctly and either scroll reverse or Penguin Silver reverse.
  9. I've thought about doing that, but just haven't had the time. Also afraid my color choices would just muck things up.
  10. Getting ready for Christmas! Cut from 1/2" sassafras, 2 coats of Waterlox, and patterns by Sheila Landry.
  11. Think that I posted pics of this before, but it fits here.
  12. Can't really argue with that logic. Just seems to be less adhesive/clean up when I use the shelf liner.
  13. I use clear shelf liner first to the wood and then super 77 to adhere the pattern to the shelf liner. I don't wait for the spray adhesive to dry any, I slap it on while still wet. I've found the cheaper liner works best. I recently ordered a box of 12 rolls from one of the dollar stores (sorry, don't remember which) for $17, delivered to their nearest store and picked up their. This new batch leaves just the slightest bit of stickiness on the wood that's easily removed with mineral spirits. Edit: I got the shelf liner at Dollar Tree and it was a dollar a roll for 16 rolls, shipped to the local store for free.
  14. Beautiful work! I love making Christmas ornaments.
  15. I love it and may just have to "borrow" the idea.
  16. Simply amazing and gorgeous!
  17. That's really beautiful. I've never seen the glass backing before and really like it. How do you attach the glass?
  18. Excellent work. I've been listening to Cash since I was 10 or 12. I also highly recommend his autobiography, "Cash". Not always a happy story, but honest and truthful.
  19. I've been trying to get some Christmas things under way, with some success. I love the Santa, will have to give it a try the next time I get brave enough to try spirals again. Thanks very much for sharing it.
  20. Sorry Don, you are correct. I actually got it from the Fall 2015 issue of Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts magazine. I didn't care for the bug that was in the original pattern so I swapped it out for the spider I found on one of Steve's patterns. I also added the bats, just found those in a Google search.
  21. Guess I can't complain about the store pushing the holidays when I'm doing it myself. A Steve Good pattern. The web is ambrosia maple, the bats are wenge, the spider is paduak and the writing is purpleheart. Thanks for looking!
  22. Truer words never spoken! Excellent job.
  23. Holy cow, if that's your first attempt, your tenth one should be unbelievable. Excellent job.
  24. Beautiful, I love it!
  25. Beautifully done! That would make a great Christmas present for my son-in-law and brother-in-law. I'd better get started now!!!
