oh I simply love that idea !! I saved the picture that shows the diagram for making the light box..... with spikes help im sure we could figure out how to do it!! and I copyed the picture of the DM screen this is the closest iv ever gotten to making a layered pice. this was a picture I saw in a magazine. I showed it to ritia and asked her to help me make a patten from it Its a layered a piece but theres no cut out holes that would let the light shine through. Ritia helped me with the layering process to...showing me where to put each piece of the picture so it would look right. I have trouble with depth perception so its hard for me to get this sort of thing right. I think what your talking about is a little bit different and easer. in this picture each piece is cut out and glued to the baker board to creat the picture. not sure if that's any kind of official wood workig thing lol but that's what I wanted to do so ritia fixed up the pattern for me. I think what your talking about is more like cutting several fret pieces out of thin wood and then layering them one on top of the other to show the depth and the light would shine through the holes where the fret work was cut out of eah piece? then you would just buy a light kit of some k ind to fit your project and then light it up behind the entire finished picture ? I was not kidding when I told you people I don't really know what im doing. lol I try to figure out how things were put together mainly from the pictures.. I do read the directions and discripetion of apiece but for the most part I look at the picture to see where everything goes and the before I glue the piece together I get some one who has depth perception to look at it and help me get the pieces placed right. now with this picture there were no directions because ritia and I made the pattern from a picture in a mag... lol might have been from one of those old D&Dmagizines the ex was always getting the mail... don't even know if there in busness any more. lol thanks for the wounderful idea!!! hum wounder if I can find the pattern for this picture and figure out a way to make it into a light box? the same with heathers screen pictures... oh if case your woundering the words at the bottom of picture says sometimes the dragon wins lol and you cant really see if very good but the dragon is using whats left of the knights sword as a tooth pick and hes cleaning his teeth!! all that other stuff on the ground are bits and pieces of his armor lol

thank you again every body.... now as far as a work of wounder lol I don't hardly think so lol geese!! now let me get off here so I can go play for a little while!!! iv always said I might have to grow older but I simply refuse to grow up!!! lol

ok I made all of my kids some christmass presents according to what they are interested in. When I asked my youngest daughter what she would like she said she wanted a D & D screen to put on the table to sort of hide her books and notes and such... my ex husband and I started playing D&D back in the late 70s when it first came out so of course my kids learned to play to. now when they were younger I would make up D & D type games to go with there history lessons lol they had to really research the person they were playing and stick to the personaly of that person during the game.... it made the learning fun and entertaining lol it wasn't until they were grown that they relized what I was doing lol then they accused me of being sneaky!! lol can you immanage little old me being sneaky? lol any way my Heather now runs a D & D game of her own with her husband and there friends.... and as dungen master she wanted a screen... now I don't know where you could be buy such a thing and not having found any patterns on line for them I just sort of had to make my own patterns..... so what I did was grab 2 coloring book pictures that fit the D &D theam and another from a wood magazine I had and transferred the pictures to wood... then I took my trusty little dermal tool and bits... and sort of line carved and etched the pictures on to the wood... after those were finished I put a frame around each picture then put hinges on them so they would stand and be a screen.... then I wood burned the name of all Heathers direct relitives and all the pets name we ve had over the years in the bricks of the castle wall in the center frame. im not to sure how well the pictures came out bu t here they are::::this is the center piece... its a dragon with wings sort of sitting in the door way of a castle... you can't really see it but those black little lines or squiggles... that s where i wood burned all the names in the bricks ... sometimes i make things a litte more complex then just simple projects lol everyone one whos seen it has asked if i could do another screen maybe with different picture and how much would i charge to make them..... so far iv been able to sort of stear them to other things.... because of course i could make others but i have no idea how much to charge for such a thing!! lol i told my kids if they ever want to get a present for one of there friends to let me know and then i ll see what i can come up with for them... only thing is they wont be able to pick out the pictures they want done. lol i had thought about painting the pictures once they were done, but everyone told me NO !! lol to just leave it as it was so thats what i did. the only real problem i had with making this is that the 3 pannals wont fold down flat for carrying when going to some eles house or to be put away so i put little hook type things on the tops of the pictures so the screen can be hung on a wall and then taken down during game time. like i said i dont really know what kind of wood working you would call this but Heather liked it as did a lot of her frieds and thats all that really mattered to me. lol

I agree very nice project!!! and a very true saying!! lol when mom was alive I lived in the back apartment connected to her duplex. many times when I was cooking mom could smell it from her apartment. she never came over herself....but she often told my brother to come over and see what I was cooking, lol she would never ask if she could have some too.... but my brother knew she wanted some of that good smelling stuff lol so hed ask me to make a plate up for mom.. while I was doing that my brother would fix himself a plate to eat while he was waiting!! lol a few minutes after he took mom a plate my little sister would come over asking where her plate was lol back then it was kind of good that I didn't know how to cook for 2.... I can cook for 5 to 500 but don't ask me to cook for just 2 lol which is why we have 2 freezers!! lol
-
now that's fantastaic!!!! no one would ever know you made it from srap wood if you hadn't said so!!
-
ok heres a few more for you to look at. im real into recycleing so this first one is a Dotson bank I made from a book holder pattern and an empty penut butter bottle. then theres the cat puzzle I made for some kind of press board that was at one time a microwave oven stand. I painted the back of it black and the front is just the finish that was on it when it was a microwave oven shelf.lol then theres the airplain lamp. some one asked me to make a airplain lamp for there son and that's what I came up with the next one is just a picture of some chunkys I make out of scrap wood. I usuly just give those away lol but id rather do that then toss out good wood!! now spike on the other hand just dosnt understand why I cant throw anything away!! lol the last one is an easter decortion… I got the pattern out of an easter coloring book my youngest got when she was 7. lol she an art teacher now lol so theres some easy projects I like to throw together every now and then. lol most of the things I make are easy things but at least it keeps me off the streets!!! lol

great pattern and cut!! just what we need right now lol a little humer to help us get through the day!!

I think they both look nice but the one with out the baker is nicer if your not going to paint or stain it.....if you painted the baker or put a picture of some flowers on the backer I think it would really look nice that way. or use a different color wood or stain on the backer like make the baker darker so it would bring out the butterfly and flowers better...

oh I love this puzzle dog pattern!! he looks just like my toby!!! he was a little snnoodle … half schnauzer and half poodle. but he wasn't that big..i loved him dearly....he passed away last summer from a tumer…. but like with all my animal children I have his picture in a frame....hes now with my Charlie ( first service dog) up in heaven with all the other animal children iv had in the past 62 years. there pictures are in a photo album not on the wall because if I put them on the wall there would be nothing on the wall but my animal children lol I also downloaded the star ship compound cut pattern that I just cant wait to cut out!!! I love doing the compound cut patterns and am always looking for new ones..... some where in my patterns I have a pattern for a bull dog tooth pick holder I got on line.....but it looks like just one side of a compound cut pattern ….now my girl friend was going to take it and make the other side of it for me so I could cut it out and make for my daughter who owns a bull dog....but then the pandemic hit.....if I were to put the picture of the pattern I have up here do you think you could draw the other side for me ? and how much would it cost for the pattern to.... let me know the cost of the pattern before you make it if you make so i'll know if I can do it or not. wounderful pieces and patterns !!! thank you. i'll put a pic of the star ship when I get it finished!!
