ok heres some other stuff im working on, there compound cut plant pokes... theres a frog, and butterfly and when i cut out the hole for the bunny pencle topper i made the hole to big so it will get a dowl put in the hole eventually and be a plant poke to. lol its not obviouse with the plant pokes but only 2 of them are the middle of the compound cut...the others are the sides which will carve up a bit so they look nice and turn them into plant pokes too now the 2 big sides from the bunnyi will sand down the backs of and turn into magnets or embleshments on other crafts... now the 2 on the bottom left i think were from the ears...but instead of tossing them out when i looked at them they reminded me of snowmen so i'll sand the backs down flat and make snowmen out of them and of course put them in the box i have of small cut out things that are waiting to go onto another project.... an example would be like glueing one onto the side of a little girls plastic headband that i have crocheted around to make it look pretty and uneque....u neek...no i cant spell it!! lol but between those 2 misspellings you should be able to figure out what word its suppose to be!! lol

ok i dont know who asked about the dragon planter but here it is as im working on it. Now remember i cut this out several years ago and for some reason stained it. so the first few pictures of it as it was . now when we moved here it got shoved into the gragrage and when i got it out finally i discovered that two of the feet had come off..i was able to put one of them back on but the other foot had gotten broken so i had to cut out a new one... im sure from the picture you can tell which one is the one i just cut out lol ...now i wanted to repaint the dragon green so i took some masking tape and covered up the eyes and eyelashes....and i hope i will have a jar of green paint that will match the paint we used for the dragon to do some touch up around the eyes when its done. lol now i was grabbing some newspaper, and the paint and kind of just looking at the dragon when spike askd me what i was doing lol i told him i was trying to figure out the best way to go about painting my dragon. he told me he knew just what to do so he took the newspaper out and put it on the table...took the dragon and a cloths hanger that he had bent with a hook on each end...then he hung one end to the gragrage door and then hung my dragon by its tail on the other hook and procided to give Drago his first coat of green paint... i still hav to make a toungh for him and paint it red and then stick it in Drago's mouth. now since this is an outside project does anyone have any ideas of what kind of clear finish i should use on him? oh and before you say anthing about Dragcos name you should know my children gave him that name lol i'll post more pictures when hes all done and hopefuly has some plants of some kind in hime lol

talked to spike & hes letting me keep some of the logs
Dragonkort replied to Dragonkort's topic in Other Woodworks
well first I have to get a good piece of wood I don't mine messing up lol my lath I in hearted from my ex and its not an expensive one I think he got it at harbor fret...but im looking and relooking at the picts of the tools to see which ones I have... I have several so I think I have all the ones I need to get started...one thing I have to figure out is how to hollow out some of the logs after I cut them in half to make planters out of them.....iv been reading my router book to lol I have a big router in a router stand and then we have the small router spike uses to router things for me lol my router skills leave much to be desired!! lol hes never taken the big router and table out of the gragrage because I scared him half to death a few times in the apartment trying to router things when wood would go a flying out of my hands and hit the wall lol you simply MUST go in the proper direction!! lol which I cannever remember I put an arrorw pointing the right direction but it would fade away lol if I ever get him to put my big roter and table in the wood shop i'll tape an arrow showing the right direction. lol its a shame though I have a nice big box of routers in there own wooden case just sitting there waiting to be used lol pictures I can do but I cant do vido until we figure out how to get the vidos that are on the camcorder off it and on to a disk or something and spike dosnt seem to be in any hurry for that. ahh well i'll just keep talking to him about it lol -
yes spike is defently a blessing to me from God. we've been together for 15 years and he has been trying to get me some relief from the migrines and headaces since he got here.... finally in sept we found a treatment that workig and i pray will countue to work until the day i die. lol its been rough for him and i thank him constently for all he does for me... poor man even had to learn to cook a few simple t hings and make tv dinners lol and he helps me when i cook from scratch he come a long way since he first got here. once in the beginning id been in pain for days and nausha to to he decided hed make supper... which was nice...but he tended to shop at gordens...a place that usuly sells to restrants . well anyway he bought some cheese to make mac and cheese....all he had to do was open it heat it and put it on the noodles... sounds good and easy except for one teny tiny little thing.... the bag of cheese was a restrant sized bag lol OH MY !!! lol he came intothe bedroom and told me what he had tried to do but something didnt look right. lol it was more like a thick cheese soup with some noodles in it. lol well being a restrant cook i said ok i can fix it.... so i got a big pot out and boiled some water and made a ton of noodles lol then i mixed it all together and it was fine....i did of course give some to my mom my brother my sister and my friend lol and we still ate mac and cheese for like 3 - 4 days lol he does a LOT better now. and he has never given up on me even when i had to spend most of this past year in bed because of the migrains and headaces... we even had to live in a dark house...the curtios were always closed and we used like 30 watt light bulbs. we use the 60s in most things now except for the orange 30 watt i have in the craft lamp by my chair....and i still wear dark sunglasses when i go out....and follow my migrine diet..not taking any chances of triggering them.

oh i love that !!! where did you get the pattern if i can ask. id love to make a couple of those for me and my kids
-
oh thats so neat!!
-
yes i love steves projects!!! i think theres a cat one too..i made a dragon planter that i got from the winterfield collection a few years ago...one of the feet broke in the move but have made a new one and just have to put it on....then the poor thing needs painting...waiting for spike to get me some green paint a grass green and a lighter color and some red paint too...im almost out of those....see what happends when you take a 2 year break!!! it was orginaly stained and put plastic eyes on it...i make cloth dolls to so i have a whole box full of eyes lol once spike gets me the paint and i get it repainted i'll put it up....once thats finished i plan on making both the dog and cat planters...then all i'll have to do is get some plants to put in them!!! lol

great work, pattern and cutting!!!

i to am not much help to you because i love them all.....if i HAD to chose though i chose the birds but only because my dad was a bird person....had bird feeders and bird houses all over the yard once mom made him move them from the pourch! lol it was getting to the point where she couldnt sit on her glider on the pourch because birds were flying around the pourch and resting walking on the pourch floor!! lol li wish i would have gotten a picture of that....id never seen birds be so unafraid of humans before....there of course all gone now that mom and dad are gone....maybe thats where i get my love for birds...i have several bird feeder patterns like the cat one i think i showed you guys on here that i have by the front door so i could watch the birds feed....but we dont fill it anymore as the birds never got the seeds because the squrals would always eat it first....we even tried to put a bird seed bell on it and with in an hour is was gone....pretty sure the squrells got that tooo.....im trying to figure out some way to put a screen on it so the birds can get the food and the squrells cant lol

opps just reread the message.....and need to make sure im clear!!! the house picture frame is where i need 11 holes but looking at the pattern i dont think that can be done and the other one is the sun!!! not a flower!!! and NOW im off to my woodshop!!!! and again thanks!!!
-
ok iv finally found the house picture frame pattern,,, now its a plastic canvas pattern that we need to convert into wood...and to make larger as plastic canvas patterns are usuly fairly small as you will see and are printed on like a grid...i also found a star picture plastic canvas patter i will put up to which like i said will have to be inlarged......I am hoping someone here can to that for me and of course for anyonne else who might like it...they no longer make plastic mag so i think converting it into wood and shareing it should be all right....one thing the pattern dosnt have enough picture holes for all the people i want to put in it it... i need like 11 picture holes if thats possaable and if not well i'll just have to make more then one famaly tree house picture frame if that makes any sense im also putting up a plastic canvas bone picture frame should anyone want to make it from wood to put there b eloved dog in.... im going to put sheba in the bone picture frame an then in the flowers one i am going to put pictures of my beloved animal children who have gone to be with God.. i want to thank you for converting and enlargeing these patterns for me and i hope everyone who wants these patterns will enjoy them ... since i cant draw this is the only way i can contrubite to the patterns here.... let me know if youd be interested in any other patterns i might have that could be converted into wood....i know there are more picture frames ...and again happy fathers days to all the dads!! now im off to my wood shop!!! yea!!!

First of all i want to wish all the fathers out there a VERY HAPPY FATHERS DAYS!!! Although my father had an windering eye and a girlfriend in NY so didn't live with us for more then half my life....he was always sort of going back and forth between mom and his girl friend.....a strange marrage to be sure....and when he was home it was a bit loud lol it is this day when i miss my dad most now that he is gone....no he wasnt around a lot and he wasn't the best father in the world..( i often woundered if he even thought of us when he was living with his girl friend) and most fathers days he was gone, but our mother taught us to respect him and the love well the love just happend perhaps dispite his wanderings ways...and we often teased him saying if we were in an airplain and one of us and his 6 pack fell out of the plan it would take him a minute to decided which one hes save lol and hed jokeling say well the beer of course!! lol he was also a kind and careing man in his own way....being a father of his genaration he of course spent more times with the boys....but i wiggled my way into watching them work on cars and convinced him at least once when they were out shooting the bb gus and 22s to let me shoot too.. before hed say wheres your mother? lol or go help your mother. lol it came back to bite him in his later years...the world had changed a lot by the time my little sister was born....and he relunty changed to some extent with them at least when it came to her...lol she sort of insisted on being treated no differentlly then the boys...lol so she got to learn how to dosome of the things he never thought to teach me...after i moved down here after my divorce he was in charge of keeping my cars running lol he check my oil once and it was almost dry poor man almost hit the roof!!! lol how could i let my oil get so low!! he KNEW he had taught me how to do that. lol nope wrong daughter lol my sister is 10 years younger then me.....and of course mom backed me up when i told him that when ever i tried to watch him and the boys working on the cars he would say wheres your mother or go help your mother lol so finally he taught me how to check the oil and where to put it in to the car....how ever at least once a month he would do a check of my car....and yes put oil in it lol not that i let it get low he would top it off lol my sister would get so mad sometimes lol but we lived in different times so our relationhip was a bit different she really never got to know him until she was in her 20s.....funny the things we remember....i have of course his pictures up along side my mothers on the wall...and as i kiss his picture and remember his pat on the head and thats nice babe..he would always say to me no matter what i was doing or saying lol i say happy fathers day to him too....he wasnt perfect and he wasnt the best father in the world but hes mine...and i love him.......now the plans for today IF nothing happens to change my plans i plan to spend some time in the woodshop getting things done or at least started. lol and i might sometimes today go out to the little pile of logs an sort through them to find the 2 or 3 that have been sitting there for a few years and should now be consided dry.... i told you id read through my book and watch my vido before i did anything lol id almost forgotten your suppose to let the wood dry first lol although i wounder what would happen if i didnt lol well its almost time for the pastors on line service so im off to get ready to attend the on line church service...again i hope everyone has a great and wounderful fathers day...have a coffee on me lol well its morning and unlike dad i dont start drinking as soon as im done with my coffee!! lol yes i struggled with alcholisum myself at one time but now i limit myself to just 2 wine glasses of wisky and soda before i go to bed at night....i started doing that when the pain got so bad...and well now i just countue it, and as long as i dont let it get out of hand spike is fine with it....although i know he watches the level on that wiskey bottle lol God bless his soul...
-
well i am nothing if not persestent. lol it took a lot of talking but i finally got spike to agree to let me keep 6 of the logs..... i have several ideas of what i want to make out of them but the one thing i needed to figure out was how to hollow out the logs....then it hit me the lath!! so i got out the lath book i got before i got sick and started reading through it....of course i know nothing is ever as easy as it looks or sounds but at least if i ruin the wood its free. iv used it once or twice just to see how it works and on much smaller pices but im going to put the vido in and watch it before i try to hollow out the logs. and of course i will work on it when spike is home in case of any kind of accident....i want to get a better look at the chisle thing for hollowing out bowl so im sure i have the right tool....and yes i am going to be very careful i have a strong respect for power tools know to many people with missing fingers and limbs....iv still got all mine and i intend to keep it that way...but as i have discovered over the years the only way to learn something is to first research it, read instructions and how to books and then as carefully as you can just up and do it!! but always with someone else in the house as theres more risk of accidents when your not really sure of what your doing. either i'll get it right or i wont and if i dont i guess i'll have to try to figure out some other way to hollow out the logs or just not make some of the things i want to make. i want to make planters out of some of them i figure i'll have to hollow out the log first and then cut it in half and sand and clean up the insides. i also want to make knobe houses...and knob house birdhouse s even if i cant get the logs hollowed our i can still make knob house decorations...well these are the plans and yes i have asked the master to be with me at all times as i try to do this....i NEVER do anything with out asking God to help and guide me....so wish me luck!!! i'll let you know how things turn out..and now off to vies the vido

well i think we all know about the best layed plans of mice and men....I had planned to spend most of the day in the woodshop today but my darling spike had other ideas. as you know i chew on the nicotee toothpicks to help me cut down on my smoking....well eveadently one fell of the table last week because i steptd on it and got a small little puncture wound on the bottom of my foot..... now having worked in the medical field as a nurse s ade and then getting my MA certifict..( medical assients) i felt pretty confendent that this was a wound i could handle with no problems... even with out a MA certifict i would have felt qulitfied to handle this tiny little wound...so i cleaned it up good, put antbotic save on it and bandaged it up....not that the wound needed a bandage....but being on the bottom of my foot the bandage was to help keep the foot clean... well iv been doing all the wound care your suppose to do...changeing the bandage putting fresh antibotic save on it...the usual...i proubly wouldnt have even done that if it had been just a regular tooth pick...well that was a little over a week ago....and the darn little hole just wasnt healing like it should ...so today spike decided we needed to go to ready care to have it looked at... now im not one to go running to the drs for every little thing so of course i protested but off we went........ i apolized to the staff for going in for such a small wound and they did xrays of the foot to see if maybe a pice of the toothpick was still in there...i was pretty sure they wouldnt find anythihng as i have taken a needle and poked around and didnt find anything they looked at it and i figured wed just be sent home....well apperently spike was right....despite my care the little devil got infected so they sent us home with a perscription for an antibotic....to take 3 times a day for 10 days.... now as we were leaving i happened to mention to my darling so ok you were right!!! and behind us i heard the receptionest giggle a little bit and it reminded me of when my son was 3... i dont remember what he did but i do remember him putting his hands on his hips and telling me i was right again and it was really getting on his nerves!! lol now i am hopeing tomarrow that spike will help me get some of the cut up tree trunks and put it next to the branches pile that has been in our back yard since we moved in because i found a bunch of projects i can make with them and maybe i can finally get back into the wood shop!! lol so thats all the woundeful news about what is going on around here. lol

lol yes things are ok here... kmmcrafts,,it says belleue mi under your name....does that mean you live in Bellevue mi? out of town in the country....but basically in Bellevue mi?? I only ask because I live in Bellevue mi. lol I had planned to get back into the wood shop today but both my daughters and there husbands came out to see me today.... my youngest daughter will be moving to Maryland next Friday...while im happy for her...completing collage and getting a job and new apartment and starting her new life...it saddens me to have her moving so very far away from home.... I gave her the money iv been socking away the last 4 years for her so they will have some money to get them started....and we fixed up my computer so we can do vido chats...but of course I miss her already. spike says we can go and visit now and then but im not sure about that...we haven't made any trips out of state in a couple of years now....spike is 73 now and dosnt like to drive for long distances any more and I can t really drive more then just a few miles from the house. but spike assures me we will go out there to visit...and he has never let me down before so im sure we will....eventually ah well such is life you have children, they grow up and move away...and sometimes there lives take them far from home... at least I have her husbands mothers name so if I don't hear from them for a long period of time I can call her and make sure there all right. well time to log off hope everybody has a great evening

I started wood working in the late 70s....right after my ex and I got married....I have a picture of a veery young me learning how to use a dermal...we lived in an apartment at that and I think that was the only tool we had!! lol I think I put up a line cutting I did with a jack knife but not sure...in 1977-78 I made a totom pole with just a little ax and yup my jack knife lol I know it was done then because I was pg with my son when I started it and I finished it just after he was born. lol then I have 2 wood carvings I did in 79 (my son was still just a baby no more then one IF he was that old. lol) one of them is an indian head and the other is a persons fist with a hole in it so It can hold a pencle. lol I did those in my early 20s. lol I also have a black wooden rocking chair that we got at an action that I carved the design that was on the back of the chair... I still have that old rocking chair...lol and yes that to was done with my jack knife. lol I don't know what finally happened to it...don't remember if it finally broke or just got lost in one of our various moves. lol so yes although im just now starting to try out the hard stuff I have been doing wood work for a very long time.... now for the pattern of the family tree... while the power and phone were out it gave me a chance to look through a bunch of my patterns and I did find one in my plastic canvas patterns …. not sure if I have any others in my vast laibary of patterns of all kinds and I did scan it into my computer... I also found a sun picture frame in the same book that holds several pictures that I will put up....the problem im going to have is making the patterns large enough to do in wood. for those of you who don't know anything about plastic canvas the pattern is seldom if ever printed full size because you stitch the pattern on pieces of plastic canvas which is like a thin plastic with rows and colloms of holes in it that you stich or kind of sew into the holes to make the picture.... I also need it to have more openings for pictures in it so I can fit all my kids and spouces ( one picture hole for them there spouse and child ) can then one for my 2 brothers and one sister...one for mom and dad and one for me and spike...so that's like 8 pictures id like to put into it.... then like I said I loaded up the star picture frame that has several holes in it that I want to make to put pics of my pets in....we have to take both of the dogs to the vet for checkups today so I will put the pictures up in the can you make this pattern for me froum either after we get back or hopefuly tomarrow… lets see i'll need at least 5 holes in the star to get my most recent animal children pics in... iv had more then 5 animals in my life time of course but these 5 are spical to me for various reasons... but like I said ill put the pictures up... now sure weather to put up the picture of the finished work that's in the mag or just the pattern.... or maybe both lol we'll see I guess lol i'll put one or the other up soon and if you need the other you can let me know lol thanks for being so paticent while I looked for the pattern lol between woodworking sewing crocheting, knitting machine knitting and plastic notto mention emboridy and machine emboridy and the sand blasting and glass ingraving patterns I v been collection for over what 35-40 years it can take me awhile to find a spicifc pattern which is why I just grab a stack of patterns when im looking to make something new and then just grabe and trace out one or two to put on wood or gather the proper materals for what ever stricks my fancy while im looking through the patterns lol if that makes any sense. lol I hope everybody has had a good few days and no one had to much damage if they were in the path of the storm lol
-
well I don't know if anybody missed me or not, but if you did, we had a big storm around here and lost power and phone … we had a LOT of big branches and tree trunks fall in and around our house. I have been able to talk spike into letting me keep some of the decent sized parts of the trees, but he wouldn't let me keep the really big pieces or of course as many pieces as I had wanted to keep but at least he let me keep some of them... I told he the reason I wanted to keep some of the really big pieces was because I could make coffee tables out of them....the ex and I had one when we first got married and I loved the way it looked later as the kids got older we gave it to my mom because we just used screw on legs from the store for the legs and after a few years it got wobbly and we were running out of places to rescrew the legs into it. lol mom had it for many years after we did. well anyway the Livingroom isn't big enough for a table but geezz that dosnt mean I coldnt make a few and keep one in like my craft room or something lol mumble grumble...but he has decided I am not strong enough to work on really large things anymore...mumble grumble....I hate when people tell me im not strong enough to do something lol he s proubly right be that totally besides the point!!! lol im sure I could find someone to help me make the big stuff lol but I will be good and just enjoy the pieces he let me keep. we don't have a heavy duity chain saw so its more then we can cut up with out getting a bigger chain saw...and spike dosnt want me trying to use our small chain saw to cut the lots and large branches because again he says im not strong enough to handle it.....mumble grumble i'll show him lol going around telling me how strong im not!! lol my getting out of breath and not being able to real good is not my problem its his!! lol maybe I should conk him up his head with a cast iron frying pan lol THEN we'll see if he still thinks im some kind of weak invaland!!lol of course I wont really do that...I love the dear man but he can sure get on my nerves at time...he keeps telling me I have to relearn how to live ….my opionn is he has got to learn to live with me the way I am now and if my weezing and gasping for air bothers him when I do more then my body wants me to do well then he should just go in another room or in his grage until I catch my breath again!! ll there now I feel better lol I don't rant and rave at spike like that …. no sense fighting over nothing lol so what have I been up to these past few days...well I put a lot of patterns on wood, cut up tons of plarn and I think I now have enough granny squares to hopefuly finish my sweater. and of course I went out side and tried to help spike clean up the yard again some. frountly we have a gas stove so we could cook still. now all I have to do is see if I can find some patterns for making things from med ad small ad almost big tree branches lol well guys thts what s been going on around here hope everybody else who got the storm are doing ok and had very little damage...we only had one big tree brance fall on the roof , spike looked at it and theres like a small dent on tht part of the roof but no leaks … God was kind to us. and now im off to read a bit
-
love the cars or trucks lol may i ask what type cnc machine you have and what it can do? my youngest daughter and her husband are moving to maryland in a few weeks and i have saved a tidy little sum to give them to help them get started in there new life....frountly my daughter has been hiard for an elementary juinor hight school as there art teacher so there haveing better luck finding a place to live..( lol just as i told them would by the way...lol as an ex landlord i know most people wont rent to you no matter where your comming from if you dont have a job yet. lol ) and i v been able to save up a tidy sum ( part of my income tax return lol) so im beginning to look at cnc machines again ...iv been looking at one called x carve i think it is..but its about 2 thousand dollars...i can go that high if i have to but want to look a several and get some more information and perhaps a little advice on what would be the best by. id like it to do the ingraving and a little carving....i think its like low relief and or perhaps high relief carving...it they make one that does that...i only mention the carving part because of the name of the machine... and how hard is it to use the program that comes with it to make patterns.....but i will most likely just down load as many free patterns for the cnc mmachine as ican and perhaps start buying some here and there like i did when i first bought my scroll saw 40 some odd years ago. does any of this make any sense??? i hope with this information that iv put up you guys might be able to help stear me in the right direction....spike usuly helps me with things like this but he dost know anymore about cnc machine then i do. thank you so very much for what ever help you can give me...
