    Now that I tightened my arm (it would come down before I finished tightening the blade...so they broke or were bent] I am top feeding...but I can see a reason for bottom feeding.

    Jerry. Thanks for all the great tips. So yes. I have to often get down under the saw to put that darn little blade in the clamp...I just assume it is because I am such a rookie, which I surely am....That is the other reason I wanted to try bottom feeding because tilting the board up seems easier than getting on the floor and clamping that blade. I will keep practicing... thanks again for your help!

    Okay, I think I found it and tightened it....it seems to be holding better. I will give it a try and tighten it more if needed. Kevin, thanks so much for your help! Very much appreciated! mc

    Well maybe I should look for tips on top feeding...does anyone know how to keep the Ex 21 arm from coming down when you want it to stay up? I sometimes wish I had a third arm!

    Paul. Thank you for your insight.....well, the saw blade direction makes sense. Maybe that is why I am having difficulty getting it in the holes when I try top feeding.... so, my EX 21 arm sometimes comes down when I am top feeding before I can finish getting the blade in the hole. Then my blade is all bent . So I thought I would try bottom feeding and just looking for any tips I can gather before giving it a try. mc

    I like the idea of "line of site", it will also keep me from getting lost. So when you speak of a dental probe, is it like one of the ones below or does it have a bigger tip?

    Thank you....So Ray, is the counter sink attached to your small drill bit or do you do it after you drill the holes?

    Dick, Thank you, so after you drill your holes, you would turn the board over and take a pencil and put it in the holes then spin it around? That sounds like an easy way to do it. Will that work on hard woods such as walnut? Thanks again

    Thank you Gene, Are you talking about using maybe a dremel tool? or just a hand drill?

    Thank you. Great idea about adding a counter sink...I will have to look for a small bit with one of those attached to it. The smallest one I have is way too big...

    So I am going to do what I think is called "fret work" and I am trying to figure out the best way that will work for me. I get how to top feed but I would like to try bottom feed...However, I do not know how to feed an itty bitty blade into an itty bitty hole without climbing under the board. Since I am new I would at least like to know what tips and tricks to try before totally giving up on it. So why would someone bottom feed vs top feed? Does the board look better because there are no scratches on top from top feeding? Thanks ahead of time. Marie

    Welcome, from Eastern Washington State... I am pretty new too...I am crazy slow at scroll sawing but I don't make as many mistakes that way. I have been part of the village for a couple months now and have learned a ton from the folks on here. I really like looking at the "Bragging" section to see others ideas.     Dave, Do you keep your piece (on the saw table) that you want to be raised up opposite of what you discussed in the inlay technique (located in Resources>Articles & How-to>Tutorials>Scroll Saw Inlay)? I suppose you could do it in different woods, like you did for your Batman top of your box... Thanks

    Thank you Kevin for looking this up for me, much appreciated. I must have a bit newer one since I have the white flip tension lever on top. So I will have to do what Ray suggested. I am thinking for switching to the Pegas clamps, which probably doesn't allow that either, is my thinking. Thanks again! mc

    Kevin, I have a Green EX 21, would it have the tension lever you are speaking of since it is an older saw? if so where is it located? I have been cutting 3/4 inch walnut with a spiral 2/0 blade which I enjoy using but I have been breaking quite a few of them in the walnut..it is probably too thick but if I can keep from breaking them I would like to continue using them...at least for this project....     I love walnut, too bad you are so far from WA state! That is a bit far for a road trip. My Mom's family is from the Upper Penninsula though...Great find!
