  1. Barb, I was told by an old timer (he called himself that ...he was in his late 80's) woodworker to use a turp, BLO, and beeswax recipe (so I use this one https://woodandshop.com/make-a-historic-beeswax-oil-turpentine-furniture-polish-finish/) and then add some Shellac. So I use equal parts of everything. 1/4 beeswax, 1/4 turp, 1/4 shellac, 1/4 BLO. I think I remember reading that you need the Turp to dissolve the beeswax completely so I don't think the shellac alone will dissolve beeswax....but if you try it and it works let me know.... mc
  2. After reading all these miss-haps, I am so glad I am not alone....I have never laughed so hard in a long time... some of which brought tears to my eyes ...thanks for sharing your crazy stories!
  3. Awww, the net over the dust collection system....what a great idea...I have lost a many things to my dust collection system....Thanks for that tip!
  4. Thank you Bill, Pretty new to the Forum.... Do you use Zinsser? I have only used the one you brush on...didn't even know there was a spray on type. I mix mine with beeswax, turp and boiled linseed oil for my bench top...I like the smell of it. I will have to try to find the spray... Thanks again!
  5. It seems when I get really close to something that is delicate, I blink. So it happened once again, and then I am down on my hands and knees in the sawdust looking for my leaf, which I luckily found. So CA glue to the rescue, but it is so tiny I have to use a tweezer and when I pick it up it pops out of the tweezer and flys across the room! I luckily find it again, but this time I didn't use a tweezer and the leaf gets stuck to my finger! Arrgh! Does this happen to anyone else or just me? Does it get less frequent (blinking) as you get better? Any tips? I will hopefully show you my trees soon and hope that they won't be snags by the time I get them done! Thanks for your suggestions ahead of time...mariec
  6. It looks beautifully made!... but could you please take another picture so I can see the sides better....What kind of wood did you use? Also, why did you decide to use shellac over other finishes?
  7. I use the 1/2 inch for dovetail drawers for cabinets. I also like to paint (artwork) on it (1/4 and 1/2 inch).
  8. 5 layers! wow, I will be lucky to get two!
  9. Dog gone TJ you have done it again....wonderful work, really love the swirly green....Kind of looks like a storm's a brewing
  10. Those are perfect! Great gift!
  11. Nancy, I was wondering the advantage of bottom feeding since to me it seemed more difficult....I just threw that out there since I couldn't think of any reason....but many folks told me good reasons....mc
  12. Really nice! I am sure your friend will love those and proudly display them...Lucky friend!
  13. Awesome work!
  14. Welcome to the village from Eastern side of Washington State! I am a fairly newbie also. Wow, Pegas... you must have a special wife who did her homework to pick that saw!
  15. Jess, I really like how you did the eyes on your dog! Nice!
  16. Jerry, I will let you know. I am a physical therapist and I have taught ergonomic so I am hoping I can figure it out. I do like @Gene Howe set up and @Davevand suggestions. I will let you know what I think of Dave Monk's chair...
  17. Rolling away would be an issue for sure! I have Antifatique mats on my floor so I think they would stay put and I believe my floor is fairly flat....
  18. That looks like a fun seat! Great way to make a chair out of two broken ones!

Wow! It looks like it will jump out of the picture! Awesome job
  20. Thank you to all who have provided info and pictures of the chair/stools that you are using. I decided on the one that @Dave Monk uses... Who knows, maybe it will give me a boost toward being the artist scroller he is! Thanks again
  21. That is simply amazing! Wow, I bet it really does roll... Very impressive! Thanks for showing me that.... mc
  22. Wow, I really like that. I love the thickness of the wood. Well done!
  23. Awww, thank you so much as I admire your work. Inlay is scary to me as I have screwed up quite a few times. Dave Monk has been a great source of help and encouragement.
  24. Thank you for the idea.....Well, I think the height works and I did try a small pillow but it would slide off and fall on the floor so I gave up on it. I also think I could use some wheels, because sometimes I swing around a longer piece of wood and it hits me in the tummy/chest area....sometimes I am pivoting a piece and wonder why it doesn't pivot anymore and I look down and it is hung up on me! (I have been wearing a coat since it is still cold up here in the Northwest) so then I try to lean back to get out of the way and the other day I almost fell over backwards. So I think wheels would be good too....
  25. I do ponder at times, but most of the time I just stand up and walk around to give my bottom a break, so a back rest might be nice....
