  1. Thank you. I love your dragon! I have been practicing hearts lately...will hopefully finish a box with a heart in it soon. I know it isn't much but it is a start. Here is one of my more recent hearts. It has been difficult cutthing through 5/8 - 3/4 hard wood but with suggestions from folks on here, I have done better...the heart is made out of "Red Heart" which is crazy hard. This is now my second attempt at these and this set is much better than my first. These cutting boards will be going to my Nephew and his fiance for their upcoming wedding.
  2. Thanks Dick, It would be hard to leave Oregon...beautiful state.....I do plan to visit Paul if I head down that way. I have a good friend who lives in his neck of the woods so when I visit her, I will see if he is around. He has been very helpful to me already. Thanks again mc
  3. Those shirts are just too cute! now you need to find some tiny clothes pins and hang them on a line...soooo cute!
  4. That is Awesome!
  5. Hi, my name is Marie and I am a rookie at all things wood. But I love wood...I think it is because it effects all your sense... I love the smell of it, the feel of it especially when it is sanded, the looks of it - I think there are so many beautiful woods, plus I like the sound of it (especially rosewood). One thing I have enjoyed is seeing all of the unique and beautiful creations you have all made with wood. I am still searching on what I really want to do with wood. I do enjoy making cabinets and drawers but they are heavy. I do like scrolling but I get frustrated with myself at times. My ultimate dream is to make a wooden chair or loveseat with beautiful scroll work on it....I know that is a long way off still...
  6. I looked at your link....thank you. That looks like something I may try...I may just get it since I could use it anywhere in the shop...thank you for sharing
  7. That is what I was thinking of...clear epoxy...not sure which brand would work...you would need to make sure it wouldn't leak out anywhere though...I love being able to see the pendulum on the inside. This project is so cool!
  8. Cute! I never thought of woodburning...great idea!
  9. Very lovely!..I am curious...why the Danish oil before the stain?
  10. Thank you so much....It will take me a lot of practice to do that one... I am such a rookie. I am pretty darn slow, but maybe if I start now I can get it done before her birthday in October! The eyes look really difficult...you really captured that. What was the thickness of the wood you used and the type of blade(s).... Thanks again I will download it...mc
  11. Wow, GQ certainly didn't think so:
  12. Wow! My daughter would love to see that. She loved Mr Tumnus. You did such a great job capturing him...so impressed!
  13. Thanks to everyone for your help on my lighting situation! So much information but it helped me make a decision. I went ahead and bought the Ottlite at JoAnn's it was on sale plus I have a 25% off coupon so it was $73 and I just picked it up. My oh my, that is sooo much better. However, I think I will need to hang some lights over head from some chains for my entire side of the orchard shop. I will need to wait until the snow melts to uncover our orchard Ladders because those rafters are way up there. I like the idea of the linkable lights because I have a long skinny side of the building for my workspace (kind of like a long hallway).... but I will also look into the Harbor Freight. I also will buy a sewing machine light because I think that will help just a bit more. Thanks again!
  14. Oh...Ha Ha! The shadows casted on the wall look really cool!
  15. Ron, that is so amazing! What did you use for the background? I really like it...and those eyes are awesome!
  16. Great idea about hanging them from a chain.....Plus, I did a google search about the harmful effects of Halogen lights and they emit UV rays so I could actually get sunburned...so that is out. I hope to go to HF tomorrow...if we don't get snowed in....Crazy March Thanks again! Marie
  17. I would love to have more light. The problem I have is the roof in 'my' shop is over 12 feet high. It is actually my husbands Orchard equipment building and I use a small piece of it (however I am slowly making gains in space, I don't think he has noticed...yet ) Anyway, I transgress...So the lights are way up there and my little lamp by my saw is casting shadows. You have given me an idea though...we have extra giant Hallogen lights we use in one of our Greenhouses (the whole thing weighs about 40 pounds), Perhaps I could hang one of those above me. The added benefit is they also give off quite a bit of heat so I would be warmer as well.... I think, though, I still could use a lighted magnifier.
  18. Jim that is good info to know. Do you have a recommendation for an LED that is not the cheaper ones. I was thinking of getting one with a magnifier and that had glass. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks so much.
  19. Thank you....I don't have a screen of any type. I just use my safety glasses when I scroll saw. But a magnifier with a light might make my cutting better...gotta blame my mistakes on something
  20. Paul, what brand is your LED one? I would like a bright one. Fluorescent lighting can give me a headache after a while. I am still trying to figure out how bright Denny's is....but no luck...I will keep looking online.
  21. Do you know how many lumins your LED one puts out? Is the flourescent one brighter? Thanks
  22. When I did a google search I found a bunch of different Ottlites...could you provide me a link or a picture of what yours is. Thank you!
  23. I like those as well because you have light coming from both sides. I do like the idea of a magnifier though. Tough decisions. Since I do upholstery I think I will look into these since I could use them on my sewing machines (which could use more light) if they don't work out for my saw. I like that they are magnetic as well. Thank you!
  24. I have two Ryobi (one green and one old blue one) and one bosch...all multitools. My Ryobi are cordless and I have used them both alot, mostly for cutting trim on cabinets and other tasks. I have used them all for sanding in tight spots and they work just okay ...maybe someone has tried a better brand. The bosch is a bit heavy and has a cord but it does offer alot of attachments from tiny to larger triangles and seems more powerful than the Ryobi. The newer green Ryobi is pretty light weight (depending on the size of the battery). I also have a craftsman triangle sander, it looks like a small iron (see pic) and it is lightweight but it doesn't get into those really tight spots as the others because of the tall handle. I have refinished alot of furniture so they were all useful for that. I don't recall a lot of vibration with any of the multi tools...
