  1. Nice touch. I hope your wife heals from the loss soon.
  2. Heck of a job!! Great work.
  3. Interesting things that people buy. I dont sell stuff so it is neat to find what does and does not sell. Eye opening,
  4. The thickness of the wood will make a huge difference. Picture a 1/2" piece and the grain that can run through it and who knows what internal directions. Now picture the same piece of stock only 1/8" thick. That same grain wont be an issue at all. I cut all my stuff out of 1/8" bb because of this. Just way easier to handle and you can get as tight as you like around corners with no frustration.
  5. I have thought this might be a decent way to scroll some veneers but never tried. Of course being cheap i dont want to invest in the veneer and not know what to do with it. Just curious if anyone has experience doing it this way. Of course I want to be able to peel it off after i cut it so i wont use that much spray glue.
  6. My lamp light is a big overhead thing that I can adjust quite a bit,. Those little scrollsaw lights dont do it for me.
  7. Stained glass, tattoo, and cartoon patterns are available in the milllions online. if you do this style the world open up quite a bot and its fun. of course it has its limitations but also its advantages. Do enough of them and you will be able to take a picture of something and make it into a pattern. The key is the black lines like Dicks first example. All cartoons have that. Once you start seeing these black outlines in things you will see them everywhere and be able to make your own patterns. Fun to experiment with. You do need to find some small blades and drill bits though. I use 2/0 jewelers blades, They have no reverse teeth so make a mess on the back but I no one sees that so does not matter. I use a jewelers screw type drill with #72 or 73 bits trimmed down just enough to drill through the wood. Longer and they will snap quite often.
  8. I like to lift weights. Dave Draper has always been a great role model. The guy always worked out hard and of course, got lots of injuries. he was always a big proponent of having a work around. Hurt your arm, you can work something else and so on. There is a work around for this antler. Just have to figure it out.
  9. I have been wanting one of these for the same purpose. Glad I am not the only one thinking this way.
  10. I just take a picture of the pattern with my phone and email it to myself. Open it on the computer and there you go.
  11. I went through a bit of a Japanese phase so did a few Mt Fuji projects. Here is a black and grey one I did on the scroll saw. Painted it with an airbrush.
  12. I am right there with you. I have tried and tried with the spirals and they just seems to chew the wood up and make a mess.
  13. Not the end of the world. You can simply cut those damaged pieces off anbd use them as a pattern to cut replacement pieces. Glue them onto the rest of the piece and then you will just have a tiny line where you glued them together. You can just leave it because no one will really see it or wood putty it with a bit of sawdust and glue. Then sand it smooth.
  14. Th & H hardwood. It says on their site there is a location in Santa Ana in says it on the front page. I dont know anything about them so you would have to call. http://www.th-h.com/locations.htm Did some searching and this is the sister store to the one near me or so it says it is. Might want to call them to make sure they have the BB. https://austinhardwoodsonline.com/our-location/
  15. Place by me is $12 for a 5'x 5' 1/8" 1/4" 5' x 5' is about $16. I am super happy I have this place around.
  16. I just use less glue. Never heard of the tool though and it is pretty cool.
  17. Great tip. I use an old casino playing card that has a hole punched in the middle of it. Pretty much same result. I just happen to have a bunch of them.
  18. Just finished this baby.
  19. Got to thinking about this topic today. Following the curve also has to do a lot with the speed you saw at. I am a big fan of very very slow speeds. I like to feel the saw cutting into the wood. if you go really fast, it will just sort of float through and the grains in the wood will sort if just move the wood along. Going slow teaches you what it should feel like. Does for me anyway,
  20. The foam poster board stuff makes for great backings for larger pieces of fretwork. Light and all one color. I usually use baltic birch but this stuff obviously is way cheaper.
  21. I had the same issue with the pegas blades. Flying dutchmen seem to be more forgiving.
  22. I love the place, all sorts of fun stuff in it. Not really too much for scrolling but outside that it has lots of stuff. be sure to download the app on your phone because there is a weekly 40% off coupon on it. One item regular price of course.

  24. Just very light spray glue on the pattern. let sit for at least 20 minutes so it is barely even tacky. Cheapest spray glue walmart sells.
