browders Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 A friend of mine retrieved two 1 X 6 boards a neighbor was planning on taking to the dump. He wasn't sure what the wood was, only that judging by the weight it must be a hardwood. He though perhaps hickory. It kinda looks like hickory, but I'm just not sure. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim amazingkevin 1 Quote
heppnerguy Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 My wood knowledge is really not very good . Has the color of Alder too. Whatever it is, it looks like a good wood to put under your scroll blade. Dick H heppnerguy Quote
Ron Johnson Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Not sure Jim but I do agree with Dick that it has the grain similar to Alder. Fine piece of wood for a fine project. Quote
Clayton717 Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 I would say either cherry or hard maple Quote
sullyscroller Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 My vote goes to hard maple sully Quote
Tommy Johnson Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Looks a lot like Soft Maple with the color that is in it! Tommy Quote

browders Posted February 1, 2016 Author Report Posted February 1, 2016 Well thanks folks. I guess I'll never really know for sure. I agree with Scrolling Steve though, the price was definitely right. I've started on a project with it and it is a joy to cut. Jim Quote
stoney Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Jim, if it's a joy to cut I think you can rule out hard maple. It is a beautiful piece though I would take it in a New York second. Enjoy it and please show us what you use it for. sullyscroller and browders 2 Quote

Lucky2 Posted February 3, 2016 Report Posted February 3, 2016 Yes there is Brian, but, do you really think that this is a big enough issue to go that far? Len Quote
