Been scrolling only nine months and I tried listening to music of all types through speakers and headphones but I still prefer to listen to the saw do it's job. I just can't focus with distractions of any kind. Maybe when I get more experience and confidence that will change.

How about you?

I have a few times, classical or jazz,  but can't anymore.  I have to pay attention incase my wife needs me for something. I need to hook up a light or something that will start flashing when she needs me.  Also my hearing is bad, so I would have to play it too loud to really hear it.  I also found it okay in the shop when I am doing something like painting of finishing.  But when using a power tool, I like to hear the tool,  Do not like distractions.

Music Is not a distraction to me. I played in grade school, middle and high school, and played in rock bands for close to thirty years. I listen to classic rock on headphones. Mine are noise canceling, so I don’t hear the saw or dust collector. With close to thirty years scrolling, I don’t need to hear the saw. I feel it! With close to 1000 songs on my phone, I alway have something great to listen too!

I almost always have some sort of background noise in the shop, whether it's music or the TV.  Neither one distracts me.  I guess it's all in what you are accustomed to.  I've been married for almost 46 years, I'm pretty good at selective deafness.

Selective deafness,  I ike that 😉

When I listen to music I keep the volume low enough to still hear the saw. I generally listen to instrumental or soft music, current favorite is the "three" from the "Gladiator" soundtrack, on repeat. My music taste is very eclectic, ranging from Metallica, to Susan Boyle to Sara Brightman to country to folk.

Depending on my mood, I'm either listening to ebooks through a headset or have the radio going. Like Dan (dgman), I've played in bands starting at 12 years old and finally gave it up about 5 years ago. If it's music I'm listening to, it is usually southern rock or blues.

I grew up playing in band in school. Went to college, got a music ed degree. Joined the Navy, was a musician with them for about 10 years. Got a job with Walt Disney World as a musician until the late 90's.  Did a stint with the Barnum and Bailey Circus in the band when they were a thing. These days, like Paul Simon says, I prefer "The sound of silence"  when I'm in the shop, especially at the scroll saw.

No music here. I like to stay focused with tasks at hand and outside noise is a confusion.

I know what you mean about outside noise. I'm a early bird and since it's not freezing ass cold in the shop I sometimes scroll around 4 or 5 am.. New neighbors have two obnoxious hound dogs that bark loudly outside my window and they seem to start right when I'm cutting a tedious section.

I listen to a book or old time radio.  For some reason, I do not find it distracting.

As a side note, I am amazed at the amount of old time radio that is available.  I especially like Gunsmoke, Yours Truly Johnny Dollar and too many more to list.  .most are available for free.

That sounds like quite an interesting life Chris!

I’ve been scrolling for four years now, I always have music playing, although I only hear it very faintly because of my ear muffs and the dust extraction working, it’s there and part of my scrolling setup.

Use Bluetooth muffs and connect them to your phone. I use these, but there are many others.
