  1. I've been wanting to make this for a while but had no reason. I decided to make it for my brother and will see him tomorrow. I am applying the poly finish now and hope it's dry enough by noon tomorrow. I wanted to see if there's much difference between using the 1/8" vs 1/4" for the cutting. I think both came out well and can't decide. I think I'll be using the 1/8" because I can stack more. Thanks for looking.
  2. Hey Frank, check out this guys work. He contributes to SSW&C magazine. I believe one of his patterns was in that magazine in the past but I'm not sure which issue. His name is Dick Miraglia. http://www.scrollsawer.com/2009/08/25/carving-on-fretwork-creates-lifelike-portrait/

    Pyramide

That is cool. Is that your design?
  4. Nice work and a nice piece of wood.
  5. All good advice and I've tried all suggestions and they all work. I think you can use a smaller drill bit, maybe a #70. No matter which way you do it you will be masking the hole.
  6. Keep at it Dan. I went through the tutorial and made a couple signs. I think I will make several for next years shows and see how they sell. I went through the tutorial twice, the second time I created my own design. Then I made two more designs while the info was still in my head. Practice, practice, practice.
  7. Those are fabulous Frank.
  8. I have a Delta P-20. I just checked the blade movement as I do every time this type of question comes up. My blade moves forward about 0.031" on the down stroke. This seems normal to me.
  9. I buy the large matting boards from the hobby store. It is black all the way through and won't fade. I undercut by by 1/8" and glue to the wood with Titebond (but I believe any glue will do). If I'm worried about squeeze out, I use Aleen's since it dries clear. If you are using wood as backing and want it to match the size of the word art, maybe you can cut the backer a little oversize and after it's glued up sand the edges on a belt sander or spindle sander to get everything lined up. You can always re-stain or paint the edges.

  11. Great to hear Edward! I alway say a successful is one where I make my registration fee back and make some friends. Anything more is a bonus. No...go buy some more tools and wood.
  12. Those came out great Mark. I like how the framed them. I hope your move went well and welcome to The Village.
  13. Hi Joe. I usually try to release the tension on the blade. But, I don't worry about it if I forget.
  14. Nice work. Put a bottom and add some lids and you have a nice jewelry box.

This is a Christmas present for my son and daughter-in-law. Made from 1/2 inch ash, very hard. It's waiting to be finished but I think it's coming out pretty good. I will use a black backer. Thanks for looking. Oh, I tried the script "a" two different ways. I definitely like the "a" in Jasmine better than the one in Matthew.
  16. Excellent!!
  17. Also puzzle pieces.
  18. 7. No matter how many times you do it, spray adhesive makes a lousy finish.

    3 Saws

We got one saw to work but it petered out whike cutting some 1/4 inch ply. Probably the motor controller. It's not worth the money to fix so we may save it for parts. We took one out of the box and reconnected the covers and it seems to work fine. My guess is it won't last long. But at least he has one to play with for a while. All of them are covers with rust so I showed him how to clean it.
  20. Congrats Dan! Since you will need room in your shop I'll send you my address and you can send me your old saw.
  21. My son picked up 3 used Craftsman scroll saws yesterday. All of them have something wrong but all have different problems but they were free. He asked me to look at them and see if we could make at least one good one. I replaced the switch on one this morning and now the motor works. The linkage for the lower arm is missing so I think we can have one good one. I will have me son work with me on this as he should learn a little about the saw. If we get another one working I may buy it from him for a backup saw.
  22. Great job on all of them. I love the bird house.
  23. Flying Dutchman are the blades I use also. I love them. Olson blades are also great and I wouldn't hesitate to buy those either.

    Wolves

Looks great Larry. Wolves are always a favorite of mine.
  25. Looks great Scott. Congrats on the sales. That's like scoring two touchdowns before the game starts. Let us know how the rest of the sale goes.
