  1. I've owned my Shopsmith since 1982 and while I have many of the add-on's (band saw, jointer, belt sander), I never purchased the scroll saw. I don't think you'll find a better place to get scroll saw questions answered than here at SSV. However for specific Shopsmith questions you might try their forum. http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/index.php?&sid=4bcfbaa0514e42ee90c067b1fae550a3
  2. No s#$t!!! I am flabbergasted. Is that policy? What is their threshold?
  3. Here in St. Paul HD has oak, pine, and poplar. Maybe regional or a unique store manager. I know HD veteran discounts are spotty here too. I carry a copy of my DD 214 but on my last visit to HD they wanted some special ID from the VA. Doesn't the VA have more important tasks than handing out picture ID's??? My two Lowe's are both quite a distance, relative to HD and Menards so I don't make the trip. I often purchase stock at a real lumberyard in Minneapolis, Youngbloods.
  4. Here's an example made from a piece of 3/4" oak. On the backside I embedded a small rare earth magnet so it hangs on the toaster. I used a bandsaw but a scroll saw would work well too. Finished with salad oil.
  5. Should be no problem. The material that make up plywood, especially mdf core, is much harder on blades than the tiny joint between two boards.
  6. You do nice work Dick!
  7. How's the swelling been and how have you managed it?
  8. Well executed.
  9. As long as you have the room and money, you're not.
  10. When you realized the machine was missing parts, why didn't you return it for an exchange or have the store where you purchased it repair it?
  11. What Fred said, make sure it wasn't used for transporting leaky toxic materials.
  12. Sometimes I fail to see those obvious puns, thanks for pointing it out.
  13. I like the cutting. Nice work. Where did you get the cannabis pattern? Did you rabbet the corners or were they butt jointed or? I love seeing the joinery on boxes.
  14. We should all find challenges in our woodworking. Nicely done - congrats!
  15. I'd certainly make a couple and do a test run before committing to the alphabet. Whenever I try a stencil painting technique the paint creeps under and the image isn't sharp. For my Candy Plinko game posted here: http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/topic/15780-candy-plinko-games/ I found a font I liked at Dafonts and printed out what I needed on the computer and used carbon paper (you gotta be an old timer to know carbon paper) and traced an out-line of the characters. I then went over the out-line with a fine tip Sharpie and finally used acrylic paint to fill the characters.
  16. Like other posters I don't know the brand and like them I'd just purchase them from a hobby store. However I have a couple of 'tips' that may be of value. 1) Securely clamp the stock. 2) The friction of the sides of the saw rubbing against both the outside and insides of the cut really drag the motor down and build the heat up. When I use a hole saw, as soon as the pilot bit comes through I turn the board over and drill from the other side. This minimizes the friction because the cuts aren't as deep. 3) Because the sawdust has no way to escape it adds difficulty to the cut. I stop often and vacuum out sawdust. Good luck.
  17. I used it hold fabric to a picture frame I made. Here's a couple of pics, an overall and a detail. I found it pretty easy to work with.
  18. Well done and a very practical project. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like my ice fishing gear will fit ;-)
  19. You really do nice work!
  20. IF it's in good shape I'd go for it, but then it's not my money.
  21. Well done!
  22. Thanks for the info and congrats on a fine job.
  23. Nicely done! Can you could provide a few details? Stock, the picture frames, size, and/or font. Thanks
