  1. Really great job. Is that the craft plywood for the walnut? Thickness? Thanks Don
  2. Well done. I like how you did the roof. The idea of having a floor and hay there is a good idea. My wife used to do toll painting and did a complete nativity scene, and I made a barn too. The wood is scrap barn board and she added hay. (It maybe raffi) It is a family tradition that is really treasured that I am sure yours will be.
  3. Well done. I don't know how you did 80 with all the same name. I have done 58 key chains with different names and that was a challenge, but I get about a month do I just few each day. That way it is not boring.
  4. Travis just released the new book. I try to cut my designs beforehand. This year I did not have a chance until this week. Everything worked out okay. This is a great effort by the village.
  5. Are you talking about the big black knob at the back. It should not really have to be touched. It is to keep the arm parallel to the table and then does not have to be touched. It can come a little loose, so I just measure front and back and good to go. I am currently doing a lot of 2/0 work and I have not had any problems on my EX-21. I am a bottom feeder and I just have to make sure I don't get any kinks in the blade to change the tension. Also make sure the blade is going straight up and down. There are good instructions at https://sheilalandrydesigns.com/free-pattern/tuning-your-excelsior-or-excalibur-scroll-saw/
  6. Love it well done. How did you get the red colour?
  7. Really great logo for web site. Love the green color. If you want to get T-shirts and/or hats, check with a local mechanize supplier or even someone with cricut machine to make sure it can be printed or stitched. Our club redesigned our logo and now is struggling to have it made so it can be stitched on hats.
  8. I saw a video from one of my suppliers about this. It has a thinner top veneer. I wonder about scrolling this material for tear out. They sell "craft' plywood with mdf core and a thin veneer surface. The first project I tried I got lots of tear out on the back and had some breaks right to the front on some tight areas. Scap that project. Need to test using some other blades. The comparison is here https://youtu.be/P7itvDBsKvc
  9. I have had luck with FD Polar and Pegas Super Skip blades. You need to go slow so you clear the sawdust. Also, I have had luck in wrapping thick maple with packing tape.
  10. I am in. Be a week or so as I like to cut before sending.
  11. Here is a version that I did as per Kevin. You will have to figure the fitup size and if you need any changes let me know. scooter clock.pdf
  12. I love post about the favorite blades. I have come to the conclusion it is the blade you get used to. I have been a diehard FD-UR and #3 and #1. For compound I have tried everything but my go to is FD polar. When I teach scrolling 101 I start everyone with UR #3 as they are less aggressive than Pegas MGT blades plus you get cleaner cut. Once you get cutting technique down try other blades until you find the one that suits you best.
  13. I usually do the first cut unless real small with by hand. Second cut and with small stuff I use a block of wood with sandpaper on 2 sides and use 6-inch clamps. Bought a few sets from Amazon for 4 for $15 cdn.
  14. For Windows 10 it is exactly as Rodney say. You have to right click on the font and then say install for all users. For Windows 11, I just installed an OTF font, and it did not give me the option to install for all users just install. I did that and opened Inkscape 1.2 and it was there. It also works on using File Explorer click on TTF font and it gives you the character map and just hit install and it works. I was reluctant to upgrade to Windows 11 but there are lots of hidden tricks. So far quite happy.
  15. Have you tried Century Schoolbook. This still needs to be kerned and the "i" fixed.
  16. I have a font on my system called BodoniPS. It is very much like Times New Roman, except the serif on the bottoms are square. I have no idea where I got it. Bodon1 in a commercial font but there are lots of free look a likes. I would adjust the kerning in Inkscape and then fix a couple of characters like the "i'. Send me a PM if you want me to try. I just need to know how tall it is. Don
  17. I wanted to layout the board to visualize the cuts. I did this and it takes 42 inches of board.
  18. Another Gnome for the Gnome-oholics. This one is 15 inches high made from exterior ply. (I got a bunch of cut offs from a shed company) Still need to be sprayed with exterior poly.
  19. I really like your designs. Really well done. Steve Good had a blog on doing this. https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2020_12_03_archive.html He also had a Christmas card that has all the instructions in it too. https://www.stevedgood.com/ccard2018.pdf Thanks for the post it is a great idea that I forgot about.
  20. I have an EX-21. I changed to the Pegas chuck heads after 10 years of usage. The blade holders where starting to slip. I probably could have done a renewal quick clamp from seyco but everyone was saying how great the Pegas clamps were. I had the money so I did it when on sale with Denny at Artscrafter and had them mailed to Canada. I think it was just over $100 Canadian with the exchange and postage. I honestly did not notice a great difference in performance but did get better blade holding. My 2 cents if you are experiencing problems it is a good upgrade but if ain't broke don't fix it.
  21. Here is a new version of the hockey Gnome - properly attired. Maybe he will bring the Maple Leafs luck after 55 year drought.
  22. I just received my 3/8 inch 18 gauge brads from Amazon and I did not have a chance to try on a bowl but on a test run setting up some stack cutting it worked like a charm. Didn't go out on the other side. I had a couple of scraps 1/4 by 1/4 BB and it didn't split. I am going to cut a Steve Good bowl next week as a test run as I may have 50 plus on the Daddy do list. Next time we venture south I am going to pick up pin nailer at HF if it does 3/8 nails.
  23. Thanks for all your responses. I have looked all over and I am not sure Craftsman does a kit like that anymore especially in Canada. ANWAYS, I THINK I HAVE IT SOLVED FOR ME. For some reason I bought a 1 1/4 nailer from Princess Auto on sale (like HF) a few years ago. It is 18 gauge but will take 3/8 brad nails. I have order nails from Amazon and they will be here tomorrow and I will test. Thanks for all your answers and the great idea.
  24. Hi Joe I have been searching for a craftsman pin nailer that takes 1/2 inch pins. Do you know the model # or if your specs says 5/8 but 1/2 really work? I have found a couple of "micro pin nailers" that will take 1/2 and one of them is at Harbor Freight real cheap. (I only wish we had HF in Canada.) This is a really cool idea and am determined to test out.
