  1. Hey if it makes sawdust and designer kindling its fine you got to start somewhere, welcome the village where all the scroll saw addicts hang out. Yes you read it right addicts see scrolling is not a hobby its a passion a habit an addiction, I've been at it since 1958 and haven't been able to kick it. Hope you'll stick around there is lots of free patterns for you to choose from some easy ones you'll enjoy learning the ropes and some not so easy but you'll get there in no time trust me. People here are really friendly and anytime you need help just ask and you'll get ar least 25 opinions so you can choose which one will work for you. so don't be a stranger we have members in every corner of the globe, I live in Mexico. .../Hans
  2. Really cute Dick very up lifting I like it yup.
  3. Marg, not really weird, some people are just different. Chances are you use the left side of your brain. As we tend to cut away from yourself, so push cut rather then a pull cut. This is not all bad news as people that use the left side of their brain are more apt to be artistic then visa versa. So enjoy. Happy new year
  4. < ??????????>????????? < > This means both ways what ever it takes to get the job done I use mainly spirals so I'll cut both ways to wear out the blade equally.
  5. My saw is a Dw788 but I bottom feed as I find when ever I top feed my blade always gets stuck behind the holder instead of in front also find it hard to push the blade through that tiny hole with the teeth pointing down.
  6. A dead short between the seat and the saw
  7. I'm a bottom feeder and have used both top and bottom but as I use very small blade holes I find feeding from the top difficult as the blade teeth point down so thats the reason I bottom feed, Otherwise 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other
  8. Actually were in a cold snap right now and it got to 59 this morning that is the coldest I've seen it here in over 6 years BRRRR i think I'll put my jeans on today.
  9. Yes I did Marg there was 400 holes but I was trying to beat myself in time to see how many holes I could cut in a hour. But I found it was all depends on the size of the hole off course so I had to average it out. Now this was no breaks just start to finish it took 3 hours to cut 400 holes. Very stressful on the eyes say the least. .../Hans
  10. Great job Jim keep it up now that you figured it out you're on your way

Welcome to the village from Mexico
  13. Drilling is easy as I have a drill press set up right next to my Scroll saw I have 4 great trivets now so only 2 more for a table setting of 6 Thanks Roly .../Hans
  14. Just cheap plywood 5mm Brown shoe polish for a finish and buff it up
  15. not sure where I picked it up Mat I'll look around and if I find it I'll let you know
  16. Steve I do most of my scrolling With a #3 spiral as was this one. I find straight blades take to long spirals are much faster. .../Hans
  17. Al this is a little one for me and its a matter of fact I ran out of tiny bits thats the reason I did this cut today
  18. History I guess I'm not much of a steam locomotive buff but I do like challenging cuts.
  19. Welcome to the Village from sunny Mexico wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas also .../Hans
  20. Perfect nice and crisp
  21. Kelly if you use a heat gun or a hairdryer and your pattern once you have used spray adhesive it will peel off no problem try it on a scrap piece first Also I was going to suggest something about your ornament Try as the star is the centre of your ornament have it point straight up to the hanger that way Mary and Joseph don't have to stand on a hill .../Hans
  22. You'll have to glue the pattern to the wood, just having a bare pattern on wood and then tape on top of it doesn't work even a glue stick will work for you but you'll have to sand off the residue left behind. But Besides that look at what you created I didn't even know the pattern you were cutting and without the detail I can tell thats Mary Joseph and the cradle with Jesus so how important was that detail? Keep it up your on the right road to success .../Hans
  23. Hi Kelly. By now you are familiar with your scroll saw right? well my advise to you is have fun thats all, relax, even after 50 some odd years of scrolling I do cut of a nose once in a while, so don't worry so much it will all come out in the wash. When I cut a piece, I alway look first at what the focal point is,where are people going to look on the picture? I'm sure they aren't going to look at the old mans face when he has a cute puppy on a leash right? so the puppy would have to be close but the old man not so much and definitely not the trees behind him. See where I'm going with this. So cut it out don't worry to much about not staying on the line as once you remove the pattern no one will ever no where the line was. Each piece we make be it a portrait, ornament or jewelry box they are all originals we put an artistic touch of our own into it. People you give them to will love them and the people that buy them also and the people that don't like it buy plastic. Remember now have fun,in time you will get almost perfection also, but you have to cut one hole at the time to make a master piece. Good luck .../Hans
  24. Thanks everyone for your compliments as always appreciated. .../Hans
