  1. Welcome to The Village.. I would suggest that you go slow at first. Start with really easy pattern and get the feel of that DeWalt. Once you feel like you have that mastered then push the envelop a little and try something that looks a little challenging but not impossible. Continue to move forward in that manner and you should enjoy your new found ability to change a flat piece of wood into something you family and friends will want to have. Good luck and remember this,,,,,,,if you run into something that seems overwhelm you, then just post your questions on the forum and you WILL get help Dick heppnerguy
  2. Rob, I have watched the video on posting three times and I can not get a pattern in the pattern library to save my soul. I guess I am just too ignorant to learn anything new, at least without a lot of struggling Dick heppnerguy
  3. Rob, The pattern is in the new patterns forum.. I can not figure out how to get them in the pattern library
  4. Thanks Kevin.... I am getting more into the patterns... might figure it out some day Dick heppnerguy
  5. My wife and I do respite care for foster kids and I try to find out what interests they have and try to make something for them to take with them when they leave. Sometimes it might be only their name cut into wood. The person we have with us now is a skate boarder so i asked in a post to have help finding a skateboard pattern but I was unable to find one that I was hoping for, even though several people responded with some helpful links. i thank everyone for their help in searching for the pattern and just know I really appreciated every one that did post a link for me. I ended up making my own pattern and cut it last night and just finished it. Dick heppnerguy
  6. very nicely done, as is all your work. This one is a different from what I am used to seeing you post. Great job.. the kind of fret piece that takes some time to do but is always worth the time when it is finished Dick heppnerguy
  7. Another great little piece.. when i make a shelf piece like this I usually cut and extra tab on my piece and a slot for it to fit into, sort of like you did here..I do it because is simplifies the mailing of the piece and usually will fit into a mailing envelope instead of a box Dick heppnerguy
  8. fun cut, I have this pattern too but I have yet to give it a try. Yours came out really well. A lot of movement in this piece for sure Dick heppnerguy
  9. That is bad news, indeed.. My wife and I will add you to our prayer requests. We will pray for a quicker than expected recovery. Having a shop building put it will be very nice. I hope you are planning on insulating it, because both the cold and the hot can drive you our of your shop quickly. Good luck with the HOA. I hope things go well with that. Dick heppnerguy
  10. Kris, I love your pattern and cuttings. Very interesting to look at and admire. You seem to really have the knack and produce great pieces. So glad you post them for all of us to enjoy too Dick heppnerguy
  11. Because things are different on different saws does not necessarily mean that one way is perfect. I happen to like the design of the blade clamps on the DeWalt but others complain about them. I too have a Hawk and I have found the lower blade assembly to be a little bit of a time consumer. That being said, if one is a bottom feeder, then once you have the blade in place, it actually is way nice when you re-thread your blade from hole to hole because the blade swings out toward the operator, making it really easy to put the blade in a new and small fret hole, where you do not need to bend yourself way out of shape to do so, like on the DeWalt and other saws. Changing the blade is a longer step but re-threading is easier. One picks their battles. I sure can see why when one gets used to a way of doing something, it quickly becomes the best way to them. Maybe like using a spiral blade or a flat blade. I also understand that if one is liking their usual way of doing something, other ways seem questionable. I believe that if I owned the Jet scroll saw, I would be excited about the product that Steve Good made and introduced in his video and I would buy one in a heart beat. However, I too do not understand why Jet did not see this seemly obvious mistake. I guess it just proves that engineers are not necessarily the user of the produce too. Also the device that Steve Good designed looks to be more useful to me, then not making the hole go all the way through, because it also seems to make changing the blade even better than the lessor hole would be. 12. Thanks, I was happy the wife liked it. She hung it right away. knew exactly where she was going to put it.. It was a little time consuming on the boarder... I had to cut it three times because after they were cut and finished, I discovered the printer printed it in different sizes. But I did finally get it done.. Dick heppnerguy
  13. I haven't seen this one before. Really well done....would like to locate this pattern and put it on my to do list. impressive Dick heppnerguy
  14. I made this wall plaque for my wife. It is originally a clock pattern from the now defunct Berry Basket. My wife said she liked the pattern and wanted one cut for her but we did not need any more clocks so I made it as a wall plaque for her. the outside decoration is in 4 pieces so I made the four crossed and clued them at the seams so they did not show. My wife suggested that to me as I was making it. I also had an order for the Weed Wacker from Steve Good's page but I forgot to take a photo of it. I did make one change on Steve's pattern because he made it so that one of the blades of grass was behing the golf club but he forgot to remember that the golf club is solid and does not have slots cut allthe way through it and the pattern is designed with that blade of grass showint through the club from behind. an easy fix. 15. We do indeed, at least on the older ones. the very reason I rarely use it. I just got a replacement piece that will make this task a whole lot easier...So thankful for that Dick heppnerguy OH, by the way, we sold our house and I am going to have to get rid of quite a bit of my wood supply. so you better make it down to Heppner by May and cart some of it home with you, I will not have that much room in my new house for so much wood.
  16. a couple of years ago I cut a desk top piece of a skate boarder and now I can not find where I got the pattern. I was thinking it was a Steve Good pattern but the closest i could find was a snowboarder. So if anyone can find me a skate boarder pattern I would really appreciate being directed to that source. Thank you thanks all for your suggested patterns.. None of them were what I was looking for so I just made my own pattern and I will post the finished item, tomorrow Dick heppnerguy
  17. This is a nice fresh idea.. I like it a lot Dick heppnerguy
  18. Looks like everyone has become aware of your talents and expertise in cutting, finishing and in making patterns.. again. extremily nice, ,,,all the way Dick heppnerguy
  19. I just opened Steve Good's sight and watched a video he made that looks to be really helpful to those that have the new Jet scroll saw. I posted the link to his video for you to watch. It looks like it would be worth while to spend a short time watching if you do Dick heppnerguy
  20. the DeWalt is an easy saw to work with. I. personally, really like the small table hole as I rarely need to worry about pieces breaking off do to lack of support on my table. The bottom treading of the blade will quickly become very easy and you will find it is really easy to feel the feeding of the lower part of the blade into it's place. It will become automatic and you will be able to achieve that with your eyes closed. I start by feeding the blade into the hole, from the top and lightly tighten the top thump screw to hole the blade as I then fit and tighten the lower thumb screw and followed by the tightening of the top thumb screw.. One thing that I might suggest is, use a 2 X 4 board, about a 12 inches long, (you probably do not have that measurement board there but you probably have something similar ) and use that under the saw upper arm when moving from one inside cut to another, this frees up both hands and also quickly becomes a thing of habit that you will do without giving any thought to it Dick heppnerguy
  21. Sue Mey's patterns are so nice. but I have to say this is a really easy pattern to cut. Dick heppnerguy
  22. i like how you do not always cut patterns in a normal way but go out of the envelope.. You are one creative guy Dick heppnerguy
  23. Home Depot and Lowes are a couple of the big box stores.. Yes, they do not handle the right blades.. the ones you mentioned seeing in Woodcrafters are called spiral blades,,,,they are like liver,,,you either love it or you hate it. Most people do not use spiral blades as they control very differently and make a lot of extra frizzies at the back side of your work, however the one that desire the spiral can make way more delicate cuts without the tiny pieces breaking.. I have taught myself to use both but the spirals I did not get into until after I had scrolled for 6 years then decided I needed to learn them so I started working them.. One good place to buy blades it www.woodenteddybear.com there are a lot of others but this is where I buy my blades....Woodcrafters carry some of the flat blades too and they do have the right ones you will be after but they are more expensive in the packs they carry.. hope this helps Dick heppnerguy
  24. Jim Finn is the inlay man.. He makes more inlays than most people even just cut scroll patterns. Jim posted a detailed inlay tutorial here in the village somewhere.. Ask and Jim of someone can point you to it Dick heppnerguy
  25. I have to say that is sounds like a good idea. I too live along way from my neighbors, at least compared to a lot of people. My nearest neighbor is about 1/2 mile away. I kid that I could mow my lawn naked and no one would even see me. When I asked my wife what somebody would saw if they drove by with me doing that and she immediately replied, "they would most likely say that they now know I must have married you for your money." What the heck can that mean? I am living on Social Security. Dick heppnerguy
