  1. Not real excited about this piece. Just wanted something to ad to my Facebook page. Best part is that my wife liked it so it works for me. I am thinking the pattern might be a Sue Meys pattern that I altered a little to get the effect that I wanted
  2. I had a request for Steve Good's angel mom plaque. They wanted it simplified with using tne angels that Steve put on it so I made it like this... personally I kind of like the more plain look too. It is a pretty quick cut too Dick heppnerguy
  3. I would have never cut that pattern, as it just didn't appeal to me, very much, but you just changed my mind. I also have used food coloring on my 'trout' intarsia and I liked the way it turns out Never used the denatured alcohol with it. Might check that out and give that a try too. You did a great job on this one too Dick heppnerguy
  4. i have always felt the best thing I discovered was purchasing my saw blades on line and not from the big box stores. What a difference that made. Also got rid of the 'hold down device on my saw, which aloud my so much more freedom and room to work on my things. You can do a lot on a cheaper saw ($100) but craigslist is filled with some bargains on 'better saws" at a good price. go get em, tiger. and log on often so we can get to know you and visa versa Dick heppnerguy
  5. Duane, Welcome to 'The Village', world wide family. I hope that you take time to explore all the nooks and crannies here and log on often. You will shortly find that you have a lot of new friends here, if you do. That is a nice saw you had. I have seen some really great buys on that saw on Craigslist and most are selling for around $300. Check it out. Good to have you here. Dick heppnerguy
  6. Larry, that is really funny.. looks like you need to get a sawdust burning stove for your shop..
  7. I lost the first joint on my left index finger, on a bandsaw, several years ago. I no longer can play the piano. My wife keeps harping on the fact that I never, ever knew how to play the piano so nothing changed there. Hope you heal quickly. Did you loose any part of yor finger or just cut into one, a little ? Either way it is not a good thing. There you go, I am showing you some sympathy. Glad to know I am not the only dumb a** , I mean a little careless evry once in awhile, person here. Dick heppnerguy
  8. you did a very nice job with your daughter's gift I know she will love it. she probably will not believe that YOU made it yourself. Have fun and keep up the good work. Please explore everything on TheVillage and log on often. You will soon find that we welcome everyone to The Village the behaves themselves. ( whispering) they have not found out that I am the trouble maker here, yet. This is a wonderful family of world wide scroller and we have a lot of fun here, glad you found us Dick heppnerguy
  9. Terry, Glad you saw the light and got rid of that machine and got back to really putting out your talent skills. The best thing you can do here is to log on as often as you can and then before you can blink and eye or chuck up a blade in your scroll saw, you will know the regulars and feel at home here as much as a flee on a dogs back. Be sure and explore all of The Village and let us know a little more about yourself. You just got sucked into a world wide family of the friendliest people on earth and guess what ? we ALL scroll too. Hope you enjoy getting to know us as much as we will enjoy getting to know you. Dick heppnerguy
  10. sorry I missed this post. Yoiu are into the boxes too. I plan to make several more too. Nice job, you are also inspiriing me to get with it Dick heppnerguy
  11. Always good to have a new tool. I was looking at a sanding table to use with my dust collector and though $119 for something as simple as it, was a little silly so I just built my own..New tool equals new happiness. Enjoy your new drill press. Dick heppnerguy
  12. great cat piece. I am getting ready to do one for my granddaughter's birthday soon Dick heppnerguy
  13. They have 3 different patterns on their web page and they are all free downloads. check it out.. glad you liked this too http://www.scrollbench.com/p/pattern-catalog-vases.html Dick heppnerguy
  14. Not sure if this qualifies as a vase or what, but I have been looking at them for awhile and I finally decided to make one for my wife. I made this one using Alder and another wood for the base and top of which I have no idea as to what kind of wood it is. When i freshly cut and sand this wood it is very yellow but takes on a rather dark brown look in a short time. It kind of reminds me of how a banana turn so quickly, Anyway is a very dense and hard wood with no noticeable pitch. It did please my wife, as she thought it was very beautiful. It really does not appeal to me a lot but what the heck do I know anyway?
  15. Kevin, that is very kind of you to make this for your friend, He knows from this, that you care about what he is going through, Nicely done Dick heppnerguy
  16. Thank you for all the comments. I now believe that the Hawk is a great saw, Unfortunately the saw that I was looking at had been sitting on a porch for a few years and had a lot of rust on the rustable parts. So I decided it was not one that I wanted at any price. they sell for about $1200 and up. I have seen several for sale and I am now waiting for another time to buy Dick heppnerguy
  17. Welcome to The Village. Not much that I can ad except don't forget to explore EVERYTHING you can find here. post some of your work and make comments on other people's efforts. That way we will get to know one another and you will find that very shortly you will not feel like a stranger among strangers. Dick heppnerguy
  18. Bob, Glad you found us. Be sure and take a good strole through The Village. There is a lot here to explore. If you log on often you will quickly learn who the regulars are and soon you will 'feel' a major part of our world wide family here. Ihope that you post some of your work for all of us to see. I too am retired and I love to be in my shop as much as I can. If there is anything that you do not quite understand here, just ask. Hope to see you around often Dick heppnerguy
  19. Roly, I am not so sure that one can not make a copy of anything, be it a Ford insignia, or a Coke cap without having the fear of copyright infringement. I am more inclined to think one would have to try to sell something like this or make a pattern and sell the pattern. Otherwise, it seems like it would be against the law to even draw a picture of Mickey Mouse. I don't see a problem with the Coke bottle cap, posted here. Take a look at Steve Good's sight and you will see a football scroll pattern showing the Seattle Seahawks as the winner of this past Superbowl championship. Although Steve made a pattern in which he did not sell anything or include a team logo, I do not see this as any more lawful or unlawful than the Coke bottle cap, unless it is the logo copy on the cap that makes the difference. again, is it against the law for you or me to draw it ?" no sales, no infractions". My take on it. would love to hear your reply Dick heppnerguy
  20. I too do not raise the back of my saw. I have it mounted on my workbench but I am still above it and I liked your idea of having it at chin height and I will will give that a try. One thing that i am finding out is, as I get older, I seem to be not as open to change and it sometimes holds me back. Change is becoming more difficult for me to make. I admire your skills and knowledge, Jim, so I am going to give this a try and see if it might work for me too Dick heppnerguy
  21. I will just use a few applications of a spray laquer, I guess. Probably my biggest weakness in scrolling is, finish work. I am trying to work these things out. I am not sure if I should or should not use a sealer (always, sometimes or don't bother), can of should shellac and spray lacquer work together, will a product change the look or color of my project, how many layers is required and when is enough, how often do I need to sand the layers, when is it sanded enough? So you can see, I am not the person to be asking these questions of because you are most likely much more educated in this question, than I am . Yes I plan to do the feet also. By the way, I would love to see your item too. I think walnut would be a much better choice of wood for this project but Juniper was the only wood that I had on hand that was wide enough for this project. I also was just seeing if I had the patience and skill to make it, along with the wonderment as to the strength and durability of Juniper. So this entire works was to test myself and the material used. I have to say that I am pleased with both, for the moment Thanks for the enquiry Dick heppnerguy
  22. Opps I think I made a huge error and I didn't realize it until now.. I don't think there are 2000 cuts but rather only about 1000 cuts. I must have thought I had really accomplished something here and I only did a little more that half the work I posted here. Sorry people, my bad. Dick heppnerguy
  23. this box is 8 1/2 X 4 1/2 inches and the lid and bottom are 9 1/2 x 7 inches. It is all cut from 1/4 inch stock, with I cut down on my band saw and planer from 5/8 inch stock. It was plenty of room on my saw to cut, No problem there.. Dick heppnerguy
  24. very creative. will be loved for a long time Dick heppnerguy
  25. Really nice job. It looks great. This one will command a lot of attention. Probably will be making more of these before the season is over Dick heppnerguy
