  1. I also agree with Travis and what he says. Politics and religion are beliefs people have and although I appreciate that someone has a different view point on these subjects then I may have, I do not like someone trying to run their ideas on this subject down my throat. Everyone is free to believe what they wish and they should be willing to talk about why they believe something to be true , even if it does not agree with my view point, but only for discussion in a friendly way and not to try and prove another persons view to be wrong. This is NOT a place they need to do this but in a private discussion, in person, should one wish to discus their view points. Dick heppnerguy
  2. I love how people can come up with new ideas. I do not do well in that area. You made these come to life with the nice cutting and painting. I can see why you choose to purchase the pattern book. Dick heppnerguy
  3. my hat is off to your daughter for her great painting job. They will look really nice on any tree. Can I borrow her the next time I want to paint something, I am horrible with painting my projects. Well cut and the display keeps your eyes scanning them all as they are so nice and I did not want to miss any of them Dick heppnerguy
  4. this is the first time I have seen someone cut this Steve Good patterns. I how it turned out and the backer board you choose for it. It looks really nice Dick heppnerguy
  5. You make Jim proud choosing to do so many of his great patterns. I also really like the red backer board as it sure stands out well. It is a beautiful project Dick heppnerguy
  6. Nice gifts and you did a lot of shop time getting these ready, for sure. Now the time is yours to find something to cut for just you, should you desire to do so. Dick heppnerguy
  7. Very clever pattern. I can imagine how much the kids would want to take all the little animals out of the whale and play with them. They would provide a lot of fun time for them. Very nicely done. Dick heppnerguy
  8. I decided to make another farm combine for a farming friend but I liked the natural wood color and decided not to paint it. If you have seen some of my other posts you already know that I am not very satisfied when i do try to paint a project. I left all the finish off this one so the recipient can choose to paint it, if they wish to do so. In the front view of this one, it appears that the turning cutters, ( for lack of real knowledge on farm equipment ), are bent on the right side as you look at it, but in fact they are straight. I am not sure why the photograph makes it look that way so I thought I would mention that before someone else does. I ended up cutter three sets of the circle pieces in the front of the machine because the first two sets fit very tightly and I had breakage. Finally I gave up on the pieces being made of cedar and instead decided to use BB Ply for that part. I hope I am learning something from this endeavor.
  9. I struggled with making this one and I have just finished the second one yesterday. What I came to realize, it is very necessary to use a hard wood on these. I make my second one with cedar because I liked the color of it and I did not want paint it, as I am not very good at painting my projects and almost always wish I had not done so, when I decide to try once more to do that. Not sure what T & E are, please define for me. Good luck, Ralph on your efforts. Let me know if you do not understand something in the pattern as it was a little difficult to understand what they were trying to explain in them. Once I figured that part out, I was more relaxed proceeding. Dick heppnerguy
  10. DP573-BellTowerClock.pdfDP573-BellTowerClock.pdf I cut two of these and they took some time and care for me to do. I do not have a photo of either of the clocks I cut so i used this one for demonstration purposes. the John Wayne is one I cut for my son in law for his last birthday. These are NOT easy ones for me. that is the differences. Dick heppnerguy
  11. I had someone request this exact same kind of a map but I never could figure out how to go about making the pattern. Now when i look at your project is brings me to a 'dah' moment. Not that hard to figure out how to do it once I see your piece. Again, great job Dick heppnerguy
  12. Not that bad with a hard wood or BB ply. If I was making it again, I think I would increase the size of the pattern, only because I think it would stand out a lot better. Go ahead and cut it. It looks more challenging then it really is Dick heppnerguy
  13. moisture is not a part of our problem in Southern Arizona as it is extremely dry here all the time. We have very hot days here but until temperature reach over 100 degrees, it does not feel that bad and one does not sweat much here either. Way different from the Oregon where once it reaches 80 degrees one becomes too hot. People who have not experienced hot temperatures here in Southern Arizona usually do not believe what they here about how the temperature is so different. Dick heppnerguy
  14. You should be here with us in Southern Arizona as it still seems like summer for most of the United States here, as we are still having temperatures daily in the mid 80's. We almost never get rain and if we do, it very rarely lasts more then an hour of two. Never do we get snow here but on rare occasions we might see a hail storm the passes through. It is always connected to a monsoon which only happens in the summer month. The bad thing about the monsoons is it causes instant flooding but is very isolated and only lasts a short time. I does bring our summer 110 degrees down to a cooler feeling 80 degrees while it is blasting an area with its water. Dick heppnerguy
  15. Patti must be crazy.....might consider taking her to a shrink. 54 years? Dick heppnerguy
  16. When I am cutting things thicker than 1/4 inch, I do not seem to have as much trouble with it. Oh well, the harder woods are much easier to cut and do not have this problem, so I will try to purchase more hard woods in the future Dick heppnerguy
  17. I have tried that. It is almost like it develops static electricity as you are cutting it. Even if I blow on it with my mouth, it stays there. I can use it for regular cuts but not for small fret work Dick heppnerguy
  18. Marg, you must be in the Spring time there now, right? enjoy your warming weather while most of the folks in the States and Canada dig your their winter duds Dick heppnerguy
  19. Welcome to The Village from Southern Arizona. I would suggest to you that a good blade is the most important thing a scroller should have. don't buy your blades at the big stores but rather on line. the big box stores to not handle the blades for the scroller. If you are not sure where or what to buy in the way of blades, just ask. there are many places and blade to get. Hope to see you posting often and comment on other peoples posts also. Dick heppnerguy
  20. I can not imagine the Hegner would last very long on a sales post..I have never owned one but I know some people on here that do and they are excited about their Hegner. One of the most reliable saws on the market, I have been told. Welcome to The Village. This is a great place to hang as there are a lot of very friendly, talented and happy to share and help others. I Live in Southern Arizona and I hope you will log on often. Post your work and comment on others when you see their work. This is a great place to learn and to get free scroll saw patterns to download. Dick heppnerguy
  21. We all hope that you do find the time to get to know us all better. We are a friendly and encouraging group of people and when you log on regularly you quickly understand why we consider ourselves as family. Hope to see you posting a lot Dick heppnerguy
  22. I was looking for a project to cut for one of my granddaughter when I came across this Steve Good pattern and showed it to my wife. She said that is a great pattern for the granddaughter I cut this one for. I started to cut it out of Red Cedar but the sawdust would not blow from the pattern and continued to build up in front of the blade. I was using a #1 Pegas blade and no.... I was not put on upside down. It became so much of a problem, I quit cutting it and made if from BB Ply instead. I still liked it well enough but I was a little disappointed by not being able to cut it from the wood I had chosen for it. Dick heppnerguy
  23. I really enjoy your work and how well your projects come out. Keep up the great work Dick heppnerguy
  24. Nice project. Still haven't gotten around to cut any of Jim Blumes pattern but I certainly want to do some, as they are such nicely done patterns with some challenge in them to make them interesting to cut. Dick heppnerguy
  25. nice job. It looks like a fun pattern to cut. I have been looking at that pattern also. You have inspired me so that my memory is once more jogged so it has moved closer to actually cutting it in the future. Dick heppnerguy
