  1. We are all just happy that you are with us. Welcome again Dick heppnerguy
  2. We have 13 grandkids and 13 great grands so I know exactly what you mean about giving both of yours a gift at the same time. We certainly are aware of the complications that come up with their feelings, especially when they are young. Love your projects and send warm wishes from Southern Arizona. Dick heppnerguy
  3. Through with the desert. So many people come to Southern Arizona every winter, as you probably know. Michigan is one of the most common states that dominate the majority of the license plate of the snow birds here in Casa Grande where I live. They can't wait to not have to put up with all the cold and snowy weather. You are moving the opposite that most people seem to want. All that said, I also want to welcome you to The Village and hope to see you around. I also hope you find a shop space where you can scroll when it is cold. Good luck on your move and when you get to Michigan let us know how things are going for you Dick heppnerguy
  4. I was always a little afraid to do that because I was afraid the pattern would lift when I was cutting. So glad to be a scroller and find all the different ways people do things. I have hit many places where I was sure I was doing things in the best possible way and later tried something different that made changes for me. Dick heppnerguy
  5. you are so right about that. I do not push my scroll work on my page much any more and mostly make things for my family and friends when they want something I make. That gives me by far the most satisfaction of all. Dick heppnerguy
  6. My daughter saw this pattern and really wanted it so I cut it out for her and she took it home with a smile on her face. A very quick and easy cut too. Dick heppnerguy
  7. Very interesting and unique pieces. I like the way they look too Dick heppnerguy
  8. Nice pattern for a Brady fan. I am not very interested in sports so I tend not to cut very many sport pattern but when I do I cut them for the members of my family that are into sports and I believe they are probably their favorite pieces from me. So How can you go wrong with one given to the right person. This nicely done project will most likely be displayed in a prominent place for all to see Dick heppnerguy
  9. I used to swear by the blue painters tape on my wood and under the pattern. Later I saw a person who glued the pattern directly on the wood. I tried it and liked it except for the glue residue left after using mineral spirits. I did find that a cloth dipped into the MS would quickly take off the residue. Then I discovered something more.... (one thing I was skeptical about}, only using a very light coat of spray glue on the pattern and not on the wood itself, and waiting for 3 minutes before applying the pattern directly on the wood. My thought was...the glue wood be too dry and the pattern would raise off the wood while I was cutting it, especially if it was a small holed fret piece. To my surprised it worked better than any method I had previously used. I also found on most of the patterns I was cutting, I was able to peel off the pattern quite easily without using any MS at all. This was a blessing because I also did not have any glue residue left behind like I did with the MS. Another good thing using this method was sometimes when I did use blue painters tape on BB ply it would sometimes lift some of the wood grain and the new method has never done that on me. It is extremely important that I always sand the wood smooth and make sure there is no sanding residue on the wood before I place the pattern on it. I even run the palm of my hand over the wood surface to make sure I see no sawdust on my hand and only then am I assured it is clean enough to place my pattern on it. heppnerguy
  10. I ran across this one and remember how it challenged me at the time because I had my first saw with a really small throat and had to do a lot of maneuvering in order to get it cut. I had no spirals and I was happily surprised that I was able to finish the task. Looking back, if I were to cut it today I would use a spiral and I now have a 21 inch throat on my saw so I would not even consider it a challenge to cut any longer. I guess that just tells me that I have indeed had some growth in my hobby. That feels good too. Dick heppnerguy
  11. Thank you, Dave. Dick heppnerguy

  15. I have to agree with tho others. This is a great and beautiful project. Thanks for the inspiration and for posting it. Dick heppnerguy
  16. Really a nice piece. I have never tried to use lights on a project but I really like the ones, like yours, that I have seen lately. I need to give this a try sometime. Not sure how to go about it though. Dick heppnerguy
  17. HAPPY NEW YEAR to both of you. I need to get more active in The Village again. Seems like life has so much to do all the time that I get distracted from my shop and being on line as much as I would like to be. Dick heppnerguy
  18. I have not been sitting on my duff doing nothing all of December. I made a lot of Christmas gifts for the family but did not take many photos of them. Here are a few items I did but forgot to post. Pretty much the rest of them never got a photo so I am unable to post them for you. HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone and i will try to do better from now on. Dick heppnerguy

  22. What a fun idea. that brings a new meaning to Christmas each year you get them out and hang them on the tree or in this case your ornament stand. Dick heppnerguy
  23. I saw that pattern and had to put it on my 'to do' list also. Very cute little project and you nailed it. It is perfectly done. Dick heppnerguy
  24. I am afraid I would have to disagree with Malanee's comments about using the epoxy on this piece, which is very well done and an attractive piece. That being said, what I mean by that is, it is the times where you go ahead and cut some fret work that you have backed away from because you never thought you were capable of doing. Then you give it a try and find out you can do that difficult of an item. It is then that you, 'move ahead' in your efforts. If one does not give the 'scary' things a try, one will find they are only discouraging themselves and will not advance to where they would like to be. That is why trying epoxy at this time, I believe to be a good idea. What if it becomes messed up and you wish you would have left well enough alone? Try again, maybe with a simpler project next time and try again, eventually you will learn to do that well. If you do have a bad experience this time, keep the failed attempt and use it to compare after you master it. You will be glad you tried once you get there. I say,"spread those wings and learn to fly." Just my take on it. Dick heppnerguy
  25. I love inlays and do not do very many, as I should so that I could master it. Fun items Dick heppnerguy
