  1. Aside from BB ply. I use a lot of red oak, pine, cherry and Maple. Of those I would say it would be a toss up between cherry and red oak.
  2. I have never used any kind of lubricant with my scoll saw. I have used it with a band saw though. I always felt that what I get with packing tape was plenty.
  3. Dick I think these labels are a perfrct way to proudly show your work and pride. Will definately keep them in mind for those " very special " projects and commishoned pieces. Thanks.
  4. Since your issue at at the clamps. I would check the set screw and make sure it is tight and also flat. Have had issues from usage were the set screws deloped a slight edge to them leaving a sparp edge and causing problems. A quick touch up with a flat file or sandpaper and a steady hand do the trick. I also use a porter cable and think they should have hardened those screws more then they did.
  5. I use one from Mike's and it holds the tiny bits well. The next one I get will be of better quaility though. The bits tend to not spin true, but as soon as they touch the wood the stay straight. My Dewalt 14.4 holds the tiny bits well also so if I miss a hole at the drill press I can get it while sitting at my saw. I believe Dremel makes a drill bit chuck too and it's pretty easy o make a home made drill press for it.
  6. The only time I wear one is when I am working on my lathe. I used to wear a different one, but neck strap always rubbed the back of neck and got very uncommfortable. In the colder months, I wear denim shirts I get from thrift stores and don't worry about stain and glue. Guessing it is all what you are use to or is most comfortable for you. Shop vac takes off the light dust from scrolling and sanding.
  7. Like you it's been ages on ages for me. I do not remember seeing any painted on the inside though. Should be interesting to see the different opinions here.
  8. Nice work Joe. Love it. As foor a backer. I would use red for the heart and a dark color for the Jesus face. Looks like you have more then enough room to play with. As for framing, I prefer red oak in a rd oak stain for this one. Won't take away from the art work and may enhance it's over all beauty. Thanks for sharing a great piece of work
  9. Very well done. Love the appearance, very classy. Great job
  10. Sounds like a plan to me Best of luck in your restoration efforts,
  11. Great job on those. I'm sure he will be very happy with your work.
  12. If you send them to Yahoo. Just click on the photo, it should open. Then right click and select "save as " and it will be saved on your computer. As for saving them in ssv, you would haveto open inkscape, import the photo, the click file, save as and name the file what you want. It will save it in ssv. format. Hope this helps Kevin.
  13. So happy to hear things are going good for you. Looking forward to the photos. Keep busy and stay healthy.
  14. Paul Great job on the Eagle. Def is very nice work. I have done this pattern in the past as well as quite a few others from Steve. I would be proud to hang that on my wall !
  15. Love these. Good job Dan
  16. Those are really neat. WHere did you get the pattern for these ? Would love to do some for the shows.
  17. I normally use my band saw but it has a 6" cut heighth. I have rer-sawm wood on my table saw but at 10 inches yoiu would have to finish the cut by hand. Lots of work. If you have a mill close to you may ask them to slice it down. I understand they do this fairly cheap.
  18. I'll back up Travis on this one. I love #3,#5 scroll reverse blades. I also have #1 nd a few #7's as well as a large assortment of others. But the #3 and #5 are the most I go for. Once you get a good feel for the flat blades, try the spirals. They are not for everyone. I use them when I have to, but prefer the flats. Welcome to the addiction, such a great place to be.
  19. Get better soon. The worst part of being ill is "NO SHOP " . I heard about the whiskey and Hot Tea and has helped me. In the mean time, be thankful your wife cares enough to take care of you. Hoping a quick recovery for you. The sawdust can wait till then.
  20. If memory serves me correctly ( I know stretch ) HD sells an adapter you can trim to the size required to fit. I have a few in my shop, although not in use right now. But they pulled my butt out of a bad situation when needed. Just a thought.
  21. Kevin One of the things I love about the village. Nobody knows it all but as a collective, we can accomplish anything. The folks here are a unique breed. Sort of we all help each other with what we know, and are not afraid to ask things we don't know. :) :)
  22. Did you run into any voids on this sheet ? I will say for ply I'm dedicated to BB, but if offers a better solution for some projects may just consider it. Thanks for sharing.
  23. I have used #5 FD-UR for compound cuts like this. Still a slow process but the was satisfied with the results. Never tried a #1 on it due to the thickness of the wood.
  24. I have done this before. I did use 400 sand paper to "scuff" the surface to increase the adhesion of the spray poly. Light coats work best and giveit extra time to dry. Hope this helps. Wayne
  25. Really nice job Peter. Tried this before with less happy results.
