  1. How about the piece that you have on top of the sander? That's more what I'm interested in. Thanks for all those pics though. Very nice.
  2. Paul, I was just going to comment something to the same. Actually, I was going to say how nice it must be to have enough room for all that stuff. I make a jig for something and once I'm done with it, it goes back in the scrap barrel until I need to make another jig.
  3. Your pic is very deceiving. It looks like about a 1 inch piece of mdf with a bazillion holes bored in it. I'd love to see a better pic. When/if you have time. Thanks.
  4. I tried the shipping labels and they did work well for me but what I found was a tremendous amount of waste. Unless I take the time to think ahead and try to maneuver some other smaller patterns along with what I am trying to print, I was throwing away a lot of the label. Maybe someone can enlighten me on how you do it. Thanks in advance.
  5. Those look great. And anytime you can use scraps is a plus. Good idea. P.S. in looking at your picture, it looks like you have added some sort of sanding table to the top of your spindle sander. I have that same sander so I was wondering how well it works to collect the sanding dust. The onboard vac system doesn't do all that well for scavenging the dust. Please, expand on that. What size holes are they and how is it attached, if it is attached. Thanks.
  6. It also might make a difference on the wood itself. If you are buying from H/D you will probably get some very wet wood. I did a compound cutting on 2 x 2 douglas fir that was very dry. I started out using a Pegas #5 MGT and had a terrible time with it. Then someone suggested a skip tooth or double skip tooth and that made a world of difference. You want something that allows for dust removal from the kerf. I had pretty good luck with some Olson crowned tooth blades too. About a #7.
  7. You might want to start a new topic. This one is 9 years old.
  8. OK, here ya go. It took me longer to set up my table saw than it took to make it.
  9. Not handy but I'll try to get one for you.
  10. Barb, I have 2 Ex type saws sitting on homemade stands. I made 3 sided "boxes" or trays out of 1/8" BB that slide in and under the saws. The dust falling from the cutting edge of the blade where it passes through the table ALL falls down into those trays. I collect all the dust from the different hardwoods and keep it in labelled pill bottles. I have dust collection on both saws but find that just letting the dust fall into the trays seems to work for the problem mentioned.
  11. I'm curious, nobody has mentioned whether or not you bolted the saw to the bench. All of my saws are bolted to their respective stands and all the stands are sitting on foam rubber "floor mats". I don't have any vibration from any of them with the exception of a couple of speed settings. I very seldom if ever run them at top speed. I find the "sweet spot" and pretty much run them at that setting. I know for fact that the Hegners are very finicky about how they are bolted to their stands. They have 3 bolts and those bolts MUST be tightened in the correct order or the saw will vibrate.
  12. I concur on no glass.
  13. I made the first to fit a particular brand. Once I found that having a cover, the no longer mattered. She was buying a "pretty" brand. Lol. Anyway I went out and measured every brand I could find and then altered my pattern to fit the largest box. I'm now saving a ton on tissue.
  14. Wrap a wide rubber band a couple of times around the shaft below the knob and stretch it down to one of the screws on the side. If it's long enough you can wrap it around the motor. I've done that to mine and it puts just enough drag on that shaft to keep it from turning.
  15. I watch a ton of youtube and am amazed at how much work goes into making videos. It seems like an awful lot of GoPros are being used. I don't have the patience for it.
  16. That noise seems to happen when you make any drastic change in speed. Have you tried adjusting the motor at all? I know when I adjusted mine to get rid of the aggressiveness, I took it too far once and it sort of "rattled" like yours is doing. Maybe try re-adjusting the motor and see if anything changes.
  17. How about a video of the lower clamp? From the top, it all looks ok. I don't know if it's the angle of the camera but it looks to me as though the upper blade chucks seem to be cockeyed. Like they are canting to the right. It might just be camera angle. And I did hear a noise that should not be there. It sounds like something is hitting something. Someone suggested putting the original blade clamps on the machine to see if that changed anything. Did you ever try that? Also, maybe try uninstalling the Pegas clamps and re-installing them giving a good look at the mounting hardware while you are doing it. Maybe something is worn and you just can't see it. When all else fails, you might have to dig deeper into your machine to see if something has come loose internally. When I got my first saw, a used Dewalt 788, it worked great but when I took it all apart to do a good service on it, I found a broken bolt that didn't find it's way out. Actually, someone prior to me had replaced a screw with a non-Dewalt screw and it was in backwards and the nut had come off but the screw was sort of trapped and couldn't fall out. Just something weird and that may be your trouble too. Remember, the Chinese have no idea what "quality control" means. Not in their lexicon.
  18. Thanks for your input on this but do you realize that this post was almost 6 years old? I've done the same thing before so don't feel bad.
  19. Hi and welcome to SSV from So. Cal. Please post pics of your work so we can keep up with your progress. We've all been where you are. I've been at it now for almost 10 years and learn something new all the time. I went from a started saw like yours to having 3 of the best saws made. I couldn't part with any of them. Bought them all used.
  20. You say the saw is only a year old? Is it a Chinese made Excalibur? If so that opens a whole different can of worms. Please check the i.d. plate to see where the saw was made.
  21. Dan, I think you mis-read that post. It was $7 shipping..
  22. As always, beautiful work Bernd.
  23. I think it looks great!
