  1. That’s the problem with recommending blade types and sizes. What works for me, might not work for you. I cut the miniature birdhouses out of many types of wood. I have used Mahogany, Cherry, Alder, Maple, walnut and even pine and cedar. . They all take a different blade size. For me, I prefer Flying Dutchman Polar blades in sizes 3, 5 and 7. For the hardest woods, I might even use. #9. But that might not work for everyone. You have found a blade that works for you, but for me, it doesn’t work. That’s why it’s up to you to figure what works for you! I have made hundreds of the miniature birdhouses for craft shows. I don’t list them on my Etsy store because each one is different. I can’t imagine posting thirty or fourty different bird houses. The same thing with ornaments.
  2. I like it, Very nice!
  3. They both look great Charlie!
  4. Yup, I have them on my DeWALT. And of course, they are on my Pegas Saw. I love them!
  5. There is no easy way, but there are a lot of ways to get it done. First is using quality wood. Weather you are using a good plywood, soft wood or hardwood, you need to sand the blanks before you scroll. I use a random orbital sander for this. Depending on the smoothness of the wood, I’ll start with 100 grit. Then 180, then 220. This is fairly standard in wood working. After you have done your scrolling, you can touch up your cuts with 220 grit sand paper. Either with a folded piece of sand paper or sand paper attached to a sanding block. For clean cuts, you need to use a good quality blade. Most scrollers use reverse tooth blades. The bottom teeth face upwards to help clean the fuzzies. Once you find the right blades, and your cutting improves, you will need very little, if any sanding on the cuts.
  6. Thanks Travis, I guess I missed it, but I can guess!

  13. Great little box Paul! Don’t use brass rod for the magnet though, brass is non magnetic
  14. These are cut from 3/16” solid Maple. I increased the size by 15% to make them a little easier to cut and get closer in size to other ornaments I sell. Stack cut three layers. No finish yet.
  15. Nice cutting Denny! I’m cutting them also. One and a half stacks to go!
  16. As a former scroll saw instructor, that’s the book I would recommend.

    Beautiful sign Dan!
  21. The 735 has two feed speeds. The faster speed is for rough planing. When you are close the the thickness you want, you flip it over to the slow speed. This leaves a very smooth finish, about 150 grit sand paper. On some woods, I don’t even have to finish sand! I don’t see any reason for a spiral head. I’ll say it again, I love my 735!
  22. I love my DeWALT 735!
  23. Looks great Ray! A+
  24. You can do anything you want behind the scenes, just don’t share it on the forum.
