    I was a “Woodworker” before I was a “Scroller “. As a woodworker, you always finish all sides of a piece equally. As Kevin mentioned, to allow equal moisture absorption. The possibility of warping is there. It may not happen, but why chance it? And, it does cheapen the look as it is almost impossible to not get finish on the back side, or even the bottom of the piece.

    Hey Tony, good advice above! As for blades, Flying Dutchman or Niqua have a specific blade for jigsaw puzzles. They basically are an 0/3 skip tooth blade. You don’t want to use a reverse tooth blade as the reverse teeth will leave a ragged edge on the top of the cut piece. Personally for jigsaw puzzles, I use Olson 0/2 skip tooth blades as I can’t control FD 0/2 or 0/3 blades. Good luck and show us you finished project. P.S., when I cut jigsaw puzzles, I cut them free hand, without a pattern. My icon is my first puzzle I cut several years ago.the picture of a Caviler King Charles Spaniel is from a calendar.

    Now that you have clarified the blade size, yes the FD UR # 2/0 is a bugger to control, even with 25 years experience, I can’t control them. When I need such a small blade, I go back to Olson Reverse Tooth 2/0 blades. For me, they track nicely.

    First off, welcome to the Village Matthew. I’m a bit confused as Flying Dutchman does not make an FD UR #2. There are #1, #3, #5, #7, #9, and I think a #12. I am of the mind that you always, always use the highest tension as possible. I used DeWALT saws for over twenty years and have always set the tension as high as possible, including the smaller blades such as 0/2, and #1. I alway thought that the numbers on the tension lever were unnecessary. I’m sure there are scrollers that adjust their tension according to Wood type and thickness, but for me, it’s the highest tension as possible. You always want to hear a high “ping” when you pluck the blade, regardless of blade size.

    I don’t understand why you need to hold the arm up to Change blades. I’ve had a Pegas for a year and a half and had DeWALTS for over 20 years and never had to lift the arm to install a blade! I am a top feeder and I simply hold the arm up with one hand and line up the blade with the other hand, then let the arm gently lower itself. As for changing blades, it’s just as easy to install the blade without lifting the arm.
