    Table plaque made from 1/2” Cherry. Cut with Flying Dutchman UR #3 blades. Finished with my 50/50 blend of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits, then top coated with spray semi gloss Laquer. I don’t remember where the pattern came from.

    Glade it worked out for you Jim! I have cut 100 of them this year. Most going to a bird feed store for the holidays.

    When roughing out blanks, I use what ever blade is already in the saw from the previous cut. If there is no blade in the saw I would use what ever blade I use the least. It matter not what blade to use for roughing out.

    Never ever use silicone on any woodworking tools! As BadBob mentioned, silicone will interfere with some finishes. As was mentioned, use a paste wax that does not contain silicone. Most car wax’s contain silicone. Use a paste wax designed for woodworking. You can find paste wax in the paint section of most hardware stores or paint store.

    For me, it’s easy. When the blade no longer cuts the way I want it too, it gets changed. It has nothing to do with time, or distance, if it isn’t cutting the way it was when it was new, I change it. Like was mentioned above, I have even changed a brand new blade because it did not cut the way it should. At the very least, I replace the blade before starting another project, I replace blades after each session, I replace the blade when the cut starts getting ragged, I replace the blade when it won’t track properly. This is why blades are sold in bulk…. Packages of 144 or a gross. I think once you start changing blades more often, your scrolling will become more enjoyable.

    Just some clarification, Flying Dutchman are rebranded Niqua blades. So, if you use FD, you are using Niqua. A few years before Mike from Mike’s Workshop died, he sold his business to The Wooden Teddy Bear with the stipulation they followed his business model of low prices and free shipping. So, if you order from Mikesworkshop.com site, you get free shipping for blades. If you order from WTB, you pay for shipping. As for Pegas blades, Denny at Art Crafters has the best price and fastest service. I use both brands plus Olson blades with FD UR blades the most.

    Yes, the DeWALT saw table is cast iron, but it has webbing on the underside, it is not flat.

    Yes, the tip of the thumb screw and the set screw on the Pegas clamps will wear and cause the blades to slip. My Pegas saw is about two years old and the blades are slipping. I dress the tips regularly but am ready to replace the tips and set screws. The saw came with replacement tips, set screws and tension lever.

    When Steve Good started his Community Forum, I was one of the first to sign up. I was on that forum for several years. Unfortunately, it became very political. I complained to the moderator with no support from him. So, I left. Went to the Scrollsaw Woodworking and crafts forum till they changed their forum format. Everyone hated it including myself. I heard about SSV and signed up. Been here ever since. I don’t do any social media so, this is my home.

    Nope! I just checked, it contains silicone. Never use any product containing silicone on any woodworking surface as it can affect your finish. Just don’t use car wax. Use a finishing wax. There are many available in the paint and finish department at any hardware store or woodworking store or catalog.

    I used DeWALT saws for over twenty years. They are a good saw. No vibration and easy blade clamps. This saw was designed to top feed as well as bottom feed. Give top feeding a try. If you like top feeding,you don’t need a arm lift. I had one on my first DeWALT, but soon found it was just in the way. For easy blade changing, remove the bottom blade guard. It just gets in the way. The last thing is wax the table with any wax that does not contain silicone like car wax. Silicone can affect you finish. I use Minwax finishing wax.

    Gene, the Pegas clamps will make your saw easier to use and run better. They will hold your blade tighter and reduce blade slippage, that is until the set screws and thumb screws wear. I don’t know if they will be any easier to clamp the bottom clamp as you will have to adjust to a different clamp. But once you get used to them, you will love them. I have a Pegas saw and love it. I also have them on my DeWALT saw.

    Marie, if you can top feed, there is no reason to bottom feed! When I first started scrolling, I had a bottom feeding saw. Oh how I hated changing from on hole to the next. When I got my first DeWALT saw, I took to top feeding immediately. It is so much easier to top feed. I would never go back to bottom feeding.

    Not surprised at all! I didn’t have to see the video as I’ve known this all along. It hasn’t happened to me because I take precautions to prevent it. I don’t use rags anymore. I use blue shop towels. I lay them on the edge of a plastic trash can till they dry, usually over night. Then they are safe to toss into the plastic trash can.
