  1. Cedar will be the easiest to cut. I made dozens of bird houses and I used pieces of scrap that I glue together to get the thickness, so I used jusy about every kind of wood. Oak, ash, walnut, cherry, yellow and purple heart(not recommended very hard wood) so the sky is the limit. I agree on blades choice FDUR # 5 and 7.
  2. Very nice Denny, if you thought that oak was hard, better stay away from Purple Heart. I did some that I glue scrap of PH with walnut, they look very good but never again.
  3. It is a great book, excellent patterns, thanks to all involved in producing it.
  4. I made lots of trivets and I used Tung oil, 2 to 3 coats and sanding in between coats using 600 grit, so far everybody is happy and no complains. If it wear out just sand it again and reapply Tung oil to it.
  5. The welcome sign is a Sue Mey pattern
  6. To all my American friends, hope you have a great Thanksgiving with family and friends, safe travel, great food and also good football game.
  7. Welcome to the village here from the national capital Ottawa
  8. Thanks for the nice comments, I think I will lay off cutting Christmas trees for awhile, I cut 2 signs one after the other that's enough (broke the first one). I will use Tung oil on the sign and Kunos natural oil for the coasters, 2 to 3 coats and it looks just like glass. Will post the finished products.
  9. Tung oil 2 to 3 coats.
  10. Cut this box for my daughter's boss and with the inside I made coasters, just have to apply finish to them and ready to go. Box pattern is from Sheila Landry and the nativity scene is from Sue Mey. Also I recut the welcome sign that I broke before, different piece of oak but I think it will work, also have to put the finish to it.
  11. Look at Travis post of Yesterday. starwarssnowflakes.htm
  12. I find that the green tape is not as sticky as the blue one, also it is cheaper.
  13. Welcome to the village, I'm sure you will find this place is great and lot's of friendly and helpfull folks around.
  14. Here is the sign now, unable to salvage will make another one
  15. Thanks for the nice comments but might have to cut another sign. After I finished brushing one coat of Tung oil on it I decided to used a piece of thin wire to suspend it to dry, guess what, the bent wire straight itself out and the plaque fell on the cement floor, broke in 6 pieces (will not go into what came out of my mouth at that time) I thing it can be glue back, because the break was clean and the wood is oak. Will buy some instant wood clue and give it a shot if it does not work, will find another piece of wood and another 4 hours on the scroll saw will do it.
  16. Yes I use Tung oil and it turns out very nice, on a slab of oak it really brings the grain of the wood out and the more coats the more shine.
  17. The bowl is a different pattern that I found during my travel, made of Black cherry, still have to apply the finish The welcome sign is a commission work, I have this slab of oak for awhile and decided that it will be a good choice for this, also have to apply the finish (2 to 3 coats of Tung oil). I'm pleased with the result so far. Pattern by Sue Mey.
  18. I used Tung oil on mine 2 to 3 coats and so far all of them are still fine. If they becomes dull or burn just sand it again and reapply more oil.
  19. I used glue gun, green or blue tape, brad nailers all seems to work for me.
  20. Having fun making different things at this time of the year. Sun catcher pattern from Sue Mey Candle holder from Sheila Landry Snowman napkin holder from Steve Good Angel Christmas tree decoration from Oges More sawdust in the shop is always good.
  21. Just beautiful piece, I also cut the prayer and I understand how difficult it is with all the words, good things that the prayer is not longer. Great work and I specially like the backup
  22. Yes it is a box a little tricky to cut because of the sharp edges but I used the Dremel to shape the ends.
  23. Thanks for the nice comments will keep the sawdust going.
  24. Yes it is a box.
  25. Muldoon is a yellow lab, neigbours's dog.
