  1. I guess i am just to d**m fussy but a repair has to be pretty much invisible to the naked eye or the piece becomes designer fire wood. But that's just me.
  2. Your sign looks great. Thanks for showing us.
  3. Simple yet functional a combination pretty hard to beat. Nice job Thanks for showing us.
  4. Very nice project Paul. The dragon looks great in cherry. I too like the ball. The horns look fragile though so I hope your grandson puts it on a shelf and not somewhere it could fall. Thanks for showing us.
  5. Wow Dan it looks like you have been busy. From what I can see the hearts look good. I would like to see a closer up picture though. I see you have the same Delta joiner I have.
  6. Dave I just don't think it gets any better than that. You are a very gifted craftsman. Your project is professional in every sense of the word. I'm sure your minister friend will be very impressed.
  7. Your project turned out very nice Frank. I really like the pattern. Thank you for showing us.
  8. An absolutely beautiful body of work and to think it was all cut on what you call a $10.00 scroll saw. Thanks very much for showing us.
  9. Thank you Randy, Dick, and Don for your comments. The improvements I have made to my saw have made it more user friendly for me and I am more than happy to share my ideas here.
  10. Thank you Paul. I contacted Hans at Advanced Machinery a few years ago with some of my concerns about the Hegner design. About all I got from Hans was poor excuses and basically a not interested vibe. I asked if there was a way I could contact Hegner directly. When I tried the contact everything was in the German language. I never tried pursuing it any farther. As far as a zero clearance I thought about it but any more than I need one I just decided not to bother. I guess I'll just use a business card like I have in the past.
  11. As some Hegner scroll saw owners are able to admit Hegner saws do have a few features that could be improved. I have found on some projects the table size would be more functional if it was larger especially wider. For me I have had some occasions where part of my project piece would drop off the side of the table and catch on the side preventing turning the piece until I lifted it up. I have been going to make an auxiliary table for quite some time but just never got around to it. Well I finally made one. I wanted one that was not very thick to allow for the reverse tooth blades to still work properly. I wanted a nice smooth surface to allow the work piece to slide easily. I also wanted it securely fastened but also convenient to remove. Well I started with a 1/8" piece of hardboard commonly referred to as Masonite . I then attached with contact cement a piece of laminate. The finished size is 16" X 171/4". I drilled and tapped two 1/4-20 attachment holes in my table. The auxiliary table is secured in place by two 1/4-20 flat head machine screws. As it turns out one of the hex wrenches that came with my saw is the exact right size for removing or installing the flat head machine screws.
  12. By all means Jim. I love this forum and sharing with other members here.
  13. Paul I took the original spring to my local hardware store so I could get the right length. Then I looked for a lighter tension spring. All that is required is a spring just strong enough to raise and hold up the arm. I was lucky as I found just the right spring on the very first try. The reason Hegner hasn't done this is because of the hold down. If the hold down is to be used the modification I made to it is required. What would have been nice is if Hegner would have made the upper arm stop adjustable.
  14. Jim just google Baby Soda Bottles and you will find them. They really work well I like the lip on top it holds the bottle right where you want it. They are also easy to put a label on.
  15. By moving the upper arm stop the blade end of the upper arm went from 3 1/4" to 6" above the table. I know you don't do fretwork Jim but you can take my word for it moving that stop really does help especially on larger fretwork.
  16. Looks great. It is amazing the beautiful things that can be made from reclaimed materials.
  17. I would think any Hegner saw in good condition would be worth $135.00 It may be worth that just to use for a backup. JMHO
  18. I have to disagree with you somewhat Jim. Hegners with the front tension release work as well for fretwork as any bottom fed only scroll saw. That being said I do wish Hegner saws could be top fed. I do agree that they are very durable and parts are available.
  19. I'll second that. Thank you'
  20. Hi Kevin yes you adjust the blade tension with the knob in the rear of both saws. However the one with the lever by the blade clamp is used to relieve the tension for doing fretwork. You pull the lever toward the operator to relieve tension, loosen blade clamp to remove top of blade push through fretwork hole then clamp blade and push lever back to tension blade.
  21. You look like a natural. Great job. I really like the first one you showed us.
