I use Polar #7 for my compound cuts. -

The shell is amazing. It look like a lot of sanding!

All of the cuttings are great. Not to pick a favorite, but I like the slab as a wonderful look.

I agree, a backer Is best. Black is most common, but maybe green or orange.
