  1. That is their 105# great Dane that thinks it is a lap dog. Almost to scale.
  2. I can't take credit for the paint job. Her stepmother is an artist and after I cut the leaves, I turned them over to "the paint department".
  3. Back in late winter, I said I was going to make a sign for my son's wedding. Knew nothing about making signs, but knew I could cut and paint. My wife thought I was jumping the gun when I started cutting in early spring, but I got this in the store bought frame about a week before my bypass surgery. Less than a month to go before the wedding and I have nothing left to cut for the big day. 16 x 20 oak veneer MDF, poplar of various thicknesses and some 1/8" plywood.
  4. Stunning fit and finish. The effect really pushes it over the top.
  5. I will miss Les greatly. He truly was a friend and guide to all.
  6. Kevin, when I made the ringbearer box for my son's wedding, I stamped the date into the lid and then filled the letters with black Unicorn Spit. Used a very fine brush and only had minimal clean up to do. Now, I understand stamping the letters probably broke the capillary action of the grain preventing and wicking. Picture was shot before I put the final semi gloss lacquer coats.
  7. Absolutely beautiful work on these! For the monogram, there are several Old English fonts that would be a good match.
  8. Big welcome from the plains of Indiana! Spent a great week in AZ back in January and loved the place. Scenery and people were just great.
  9. @octoolguy you better call Denny and stock up on blades first!
  10. I wonder if there is any gyroscopic motions holding that spring head in mid air.
  11. Last week, I glanced at a sheet of plywood, can't remember the thickness, but it was $92 and change! Probably 1/2", but may have been what passes for 3/4" now. I don't use anything like that, but my head hurts just thinking about folks trying to build a cabinet carcass. (Or, God forbid, a whole kitchen of cabinets.)
  12. I used to be blue, glue, pattern and packing tape on everything. Recently, I got some slightly distressed rolls of shelf liner and now use it on larger projects, saving the expensive blue stuff for smaller projects. Still use packing tape as a backup in case the 3M77 didn't get a good grab on the pattern. I did not use packing tape on 2 14 inch pieces I did recently, but I made sure there was plenty of spray glue on the liner.
  13. I am right handed and right eye dominate. I sit in the center, but probably cock my head one way or the other when sawing. I have my switch on the ground, but would entertain moving it higher, if I find a suitable method.
  14. Don't do Facebook, but it hit the Instagram feed as well. Congrats!
  15. Frank, big congrats on the longevity of the marriage. Oh yeah, the plaque is pretty awesome too.
  16. The hinges are a great finishing touch on a great looking piece. Now that I see it, can't imagine it without the hinges.
  17. Very nice. Getting ready to start glue up on a 16 x 20 for an October wedding. You did a great job on the letters.
  18. Beautiful work with a beautiful piece of wood.
  19. Very good cutting on this 3/4" can be a bit of a challenge, but you stepped up and hit it out of the park. If you're having trouble deciding on hinges, Lee Valley has a huge selection of small hinges.
  20. You have been BUSY! Very colorful and good looking work.
  21. @don in brooklin on many thanks to you, I got this piece done and ready to present. Two layers of 1/4" MDF with paint in appropriate sections on the bottom layer. This is 16" diameter and is the biggest piece I have cut with flat blades. Briefly considered spirals, but thought better of it. Hardest parts were supporting it when a lot of the mass was hanging over the edge of the table.
  22. Don: You have a gift for identifying typefaces. Thanks! I am looking forward to making this project for a great kid.
  23. This is the senior softballplaque of a young mother who died far, far too young. Her family has asked me to create a new version with her son's name and I would like to try to match the typeface if I can. Any and all suggestions are appreciated! Hopefully, someone recognizes it. I am searching on dafont with some hope.
  24. I use a little from time to time cleaning oil based finish messes. But, I don't use that much.
  25. I cut sitting on the patio on the west side of the house. Mornings are great and in later afternoons, there is a 50 foot maple tree shading me. With a breeze, it is quite tolerable--except on the 90 degree, high humidity days we had last week. I have placed a floor fan blowing up my back when I am on a deadline and have to fight the humidity.
