  1. You can buy a 10 pack of 1/16th or 1/8" bits at Harbor Freight for very little money and they are definitely disposable at that price.
  2. Just lacquer it and call it an ostrich or emu.
  3. Well done. I really like the thought on that.
  4. That is the way I did mine. Used the hearts and the veining to register the name plates. Putting a strong light behind them made it easy to line up everything.
  5. Just looking at a pallet out back deciding whether to harvest the wood and found this interesting knot. Would have loved to see that branch. Nail head indicates sizing.
  6. My son works in the building supply industry. With the lockdown, they sold lots of lumber as people worked on their homes. Now, the sawmills are running wide open trying to catch up and in my opinion, kilns may be working overtime and there may be some damp wood hitting the market. I just tried to get some wood brick mould, and found out it had been on back order since 9/1. Had to go with PVC to get done before winter.
  7. I normally make ornaments for my cousins and their kids as a family gift exchange at Thanksgiving, but that's all off this year. So, I got patterns for the next generation as well as a few kids of the same age we have "adopted". Cut from 1/4" poplar. I stack cut the outlines and then used the hearts in the feet as well as some veining to register the name plates and finished from there.
  8. 206 compound cuts? I'm out!
  9. I have been shooting since 1972, some full time positions-other times as a contract shooter. I made background drapes from both black and white knit fabric so wrinkles are minimal. Built stands to vary the height of the background. I have three Nikon digital cameras and a variety of lenses and lighting as well as a Contax film camera, bit I still find myself reaching for my phone if I decide to document a project. I do ATTEMPT to clear the background, but it doesn't always happen. As was said earlier, this is "family sharing". If I want something better, I will make the effort to break out the SLR equipment. I appreciate sharing the tips for better pictures, but most folks here are not going to change how they shoot or post.
  10. When the blade bends forward in the very bottom inch or so. It gets too bent to go through the entry hole for top feeding.
  11. Nice sentiment. I just finished some Steve Good's ornaments in 1/4" (6mm) poplar with #1 FDUR and my problem was fish hooking on the bottom of the blade.
  12. Got my copy and gave a brief look. Now, I need to read carefully.
  13. Try a coat of clear shellac first. Seems seal pretty well in my limited usage. Then you can finish with lacquer, poly, etc.
  14. Les, I get this from time to time with blue tape. Varies in severity and I think sometimes humidity is a factor. Doesn't matter how tight I sand or what.
  15. Something that doesn't require a lot of prep work or time finishing. And it must be something that makes me think.
  16. I am also a tape person when doing compounds. I drill my entry holes on both faces and just cut away. Even if I accidentally tape over the second hole, I can generally use the bottom of the blade to puncture the tape. (Or, I always have my Case XX handy)
  17. Great work all around: design, cutting and framing. AND, the subject is a legend.
  18. What a trade! Just picked up some apple today to smoke some pork chops.
  19. Great work on this one. The laminate really sets it off.
  20. Love the expression and you did it great justice.
  21. Excellent cutting of some true icons of entertainment.
  22. But, if it's fretwork, I start in the middle!
  23. I am more than a few generations removed from the Emerald Isle, but what little Irish is left in me sends a hearty welcome.
  24. I haven't cut any wood for a BBQ project, but I will submit smoked chicken with bourbon BBQ glaze. Glaze is your favorite sauce and about 1/4 Makers Mark. Stir until smooth.
  25. I clicked the headline and held an empty glass under the corner of the screen, expecting cold beer. Just got off the mower and that would have been just the ticket! Instead, I got to see Tony has taken my position and now has a good looking plaque to prove it.
