    Jerry from what I have read and folks I have talked to Delta is junk. Sorry to be so blunt. I would take it back and get your money back then look for a good quality table saw.

    Are you sure it's Alder you are cutting? I haven't cut Alder on the scroll saw but I have on the table saw and it is pretty soft and easy to work with. PS - I wonder if there is more than one kind of Alder?

    Very nice Rolf and I think they will sell. It's that season. I might try to cut it myself.

    This is what I do to run my sanding mop at the speed I want. The small clamp can be set to run the drill from very slow to wide open.

    For what you are doing just use the glue you have on hand. It doesn't take much of a glue to do what you want as I understand it.

    Randy I am also pretty new to scrolling and have been looking for that magic speed and blade combo. I think the magic we need is experience so good luck in putting it all together.

    I told you If I could do it you could do it also but I didn't say it would be easy. I agree painting can be a pain but as in your project it needs to be done.

    Finishing pine has always been a problem and it's not going to change. I try and steer clear of pine in most of my projects unless I am going to paint it. If you are buying pine at a big box store figure up how much you are paying per board foot. I think you will be surprised and not in a good way. Check this place out for good scroll saw ready wood.     I bought the 4000 model and at it's slowest speed which is 5000 RPM it seems under powered. I do know that tool gets it's power from speed but when I turn it up very much it burns the wood and over heats the bit. For those that drill holes using the Dremel tool what is your solution or advice?

    I just quite using painters tape and so far I like it better. Using mineral spirits to get the pattern off works very well and doesn't raise the grain in the wood.
