  1. Had my back surgery and it went well but still very sore. No cutting for a while. I have to use a walker to go around the house. No B-L-T. Ni bending, lifting or twisting. Oh well, I need to get better.
  2. Thanks Rodney. I used MS 3D paint for the pattern and the Font is Magneto. I just pasted it into the pattern.
  3. Neighbor 's son has a fetish for late 40's Chevy pickup. Quick project. He'll get it tomorrow. I'll be doing more lurking than working the next several weeks. Tuesday I'm going in for major back surgery (MIS Tlif) and will need about 3 months to recover. Hope to be able to drive again after a few weeks. Garage/Shop has been a little cold lately anyway.
  4. Great job. Lot's of cuts.
  5. So when are you giving the Master Class? You knocked it out of the park!
  6. We have a bunch in our yard. They really pop when they are sitting in snow covered pine trees! Love it!
  7. That is a thing of beauty! Love the finish!
  8. I bought the same Wen a few years ago and I do like it. I built a stand for it and storage for other drills and bits. I like the 6" throat depth for drilling out scroll patterns patterns. I also drill out jewerly beads and stones for my wife that require high speeds and the speed adjustment makes it very easy. Recently, I invested in the wen table and it is a god sent and cheap at $50. I couldn't build one for that price and be that accurate. I had only one issue. I had one of the lasers fail. I contacted the mfg and they sent a replacement but it was a major project to route the wires through the works of the unit to mount it. Adjusting wasn't that hard.
  9. Another fantastic job!
  10. Thanks Paul. They were a little more complicated than originally planned with reversing the pattern but came out alright. BTW I thought you didn't need to wear masks in WA anymore?
  11. Decided to start some of my Christmas gifts early. I used Steve Good's ornament and stand pattern. I did modify the 1/8 BBPW ornaments. I had my wife "flip" the pattern and made 2 of the names are the same but the base pattern is booked matched. I had some 1/8" green and red plex-a-glas and glued it between the 2 ornaments. The stand is poplar and finish is shellac and gloss lacquer. Gifts are for my neighbors.
  12. Frank, that project came out great. I have done several similar lamps and adding the velum or parchment paper makes a big difference in softening the look and accentuating the actual scroll work. Tacking the outside edges of the velum to the plex-glass with brush on contact cement has worked well for me in the past.
  13. Thank you Alex. It's great to be recognized be the designer of this wonderful project. Hope all is well with you at your new location.
  14. I do a lot of fret work, both on plaques and boxes, and it took a while to figure this out but now it quickly eliminates almost all fuzzies. I sand both sides of the pieces before I even apply the pattern and start cutting. Some of the exotic hard woods are not that much of a problem, BBPW more so. I blue tape as many cut out pieces back in the pattern as I can. This forces the fuzzies out the back. Before removing any tape, I sand the back with a orbital hand sander and then use a scotch brite (red) sanding ball on a drill and go in all directions on a flat surface. ( I buy these from HF for about $10) ( I tried this on my drill press but pushed too hard and broke off some fret pieces. I don't do that any more). I remove the tape and then the pattern and most pieces fall out or I push them out with a x-acto knife. In most cases I shellac my projects. It seals the wood but also lifts any loose fibers from the wood. I give a light hand sanding again with a piece of 500 sand paper and blow it off and tac cloth before applyng final finish.
  15. Thaanks Dick, You're no slouch when it comes to interesting project too.
  16. Thanks for all the kind comments. I do like this project and I enjoy the end results. It took me a few hours every day for a week to complete. I get a little burnout on any project that takes over a week but I did get 2 done at the same time by stack cutting. I realized after I pulled the pattern off that I had missed a few holes! Hard to notice. After the cutting, it doesn't take me more that and hour + to mount and fame the plaques. Got that down to a science. This project is all about persistance. Its mostly all straight cuts and it can be a little tedious but I did one sail at a time. It's like the old saying, " how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time" LOL!
  17. My wife surprised me again with another Alex Fox pattern. This ship pattern has LOTS of holes. Stack cut it with 1/8" for 2 copies. 1/4" backer and Gloss lacquer. I'll Keep one and one will go to one of my nautical buddies. Another plaque for his man cave.
  18. Rodney, Just like you, we have only a Lowes that is 2 miles away that has the same selection including red oak. I always have to pick through the 1/4 inch stuff to see if it has blems like warped or cupped. Their 1/4" PW is not bad for backer boards but not when the end grain shows. My local woodcraft store is 30 miles away we always combine it with a trip to Greenville (great town). Up until recently the BBPW sheets have been good and I'll get the 2 sq' bubinga or padauk packs when it looks good and instock. I recently started using Ocooch with good results and will order from them for the better quality exotic woods.
  19. I downloaded Steve Good's mantel clock. It was easy to cut. I had a poblem with the 1/4" BBPW. It was a 3 x 4' sheet and it looked good but once I started cutting the pieces, I saw there were voids in the layers. I figured I could fill them in on the edges. It sortof worked but was not happy with the result. The edge grain is what makes this an interesting project. I call the place where I bought the wood and they said they have been having quality problems since the wood comes from Russia. Offered to refund if I returned what I had not used but it is a 60 mile round trip and I would use it in another project. Has anyone else have this issue? To cover it up, I painted with Black lacquer and my wife had some gold leaf markers to cover the end grain.
  20. I showed my wife Alex's pattern and wanted it right away. Got online and ordered. Not too complicated to cut but the wife wanted a backer. Then she decides she wants 2 more to gift to neighbors. They are all sad because the Hummies left last Tuesday. We'll have to wait until early April to see them again. I stacked cut and it went pretty fast.
  21. Great cutting! How big and what type of wood?
  22. Great idea!
  23. Our Hummies just left to head south. They come almost on the same day in April and leave the same in October. We always look forward to their return and one year my wife had them feeding out of a hand feeder. Their "woosh" sound when they fly by is a welcoming sound as we sit watching them on our deck. My wife just ordered Alex's pattern from Etsy and it will be on my list of winter projects. 20220910_163832.mp4
  24. Ray, The new bellows looked identical to the one I removed. It took a little to figure out how to install it. There is a hole at the bottom where the plate is mounted but there is no way to install it that way (especially with thick fingers)I removed the 4 screws that connect the upper housing cover to the square aluminum plate at the front where the 3 rods pass through. I removed the small bolt on the top that connects the 2 drive arms. This arm has a bushing and 2 Shims on either side. This arm has the pin to mount the bellows on the underside and can be removed ( a whole lot easier!) Reinstalled everything and it all works good.
  25. A few weeks ago I noticed that I wasn't getting any air out of my blower on my EX 16. I proceeded to open the plate on the bottom that holds the bellows in place. A piece of rubber fell out and it looked to have a whole. Oh my! I was long out of warranty and what to do. I had good luck working with Denny at Artcrafter and he contacted Pegas and was able to get me a bellows. It came today and I will install it this weekend. You are my go to guy! Thank you Denny,
