    Thank you so much! This one took a couple of weeks but I really enjoyed it, most of the time. Lots of different steps.

    My high school English teacher always had the senior class memorize the first 18 lines of the prologue of The Canterbury Tales. Written in Old English, it is the story of a group of pilgrims on their way to Canterbury Cathedral. I included in the frame the line which translates, "Then folk long to go on pilgrimages" along with some nods to some things mentioned in the prologue, the rain, the wind, the sun, and singing birds. I'll be surprising Mrs. Hudson, my English teacher, with it soon. It is around 11" X 14", 3/4" alder wood, painted with acrylic craft paints with a spray clear coat.

    My dad was a Baptist minister. 50ish years ago he brought a discarded upright piano home from the country church he was pastoring and refurbished it. It stayed in my mom and dad's home till they passed away. Then my sister had it for awhile, but it's been stored in a garage for years now. My sister saw something similar to these somewhere and asked me if i could make her one of the key holders. I made her and her daughter the key holders and my son and daughter-in-law the one that says, "Love is the key." All the materials except for the text and the hangers came from the old piano. The little brass buttons are part of the key/hammer mechanism of the piano, called capstans. Felt like my dad was smiling while I worked on them. The chips on the keys were done by my mischievous son and nephew with a toy hammer. Maw Maw wasn't happy.

    @Bill WIlson @ChelCass @TAIrving @barb.j.enders Thanks for the responses. And it may well be that it isn't Limba because I had also seen that it isn't supposed to be that toxic or hard to work with. I lost count of how many drill bits I broke off. I hate when that happens. I nearly always end up hitting the bit and ruining a blade when I try to cut around it. It could be a coincidence that I got sick on that day. I'm still going to call today and see if they'll let me exchange it.

    Just curious if anyone else has worked with White Limba wood. I went to Woodcraft in Birmingham Alabama and they have a large bin of cut-offs that are $2 a pound. It had a lot of quarter sawn White Limba, which I'd never heard of. It looked great for portraits and I bought just over 60 pounds thinking I wouldn't have to buy any wood for a year. It's so hard I broke about 6 drill bits and a dozen blades on my first small project, plus I've been really sick with sinus and chest congestion for 5 days since I worked with it though I did wear a mask and run my dust collection. Planning to call today to see if they'll let me exchange the 60ish pounds I have left.

    Thanks, Barb. Usually we look for the right piece of wood for a pattern. This time it was the other way around. Since it was for my wife I showed her the wood and let her find a pattern. She did good.
