  1. Here's my contribution to Spring work. Pattern from scrolleronline.
  2. Very cool and nice job.
  3. I've got some of Steve's basket patterns on my "to-do" list. Great job.
  4. Words to live by.
  5. Thanks for all the kind words. I appreciate it.
  6. Haven't checked in here much as of late, but have still been scrolling. Something for the season.
  7. Not to change the direction of the thread, but I just wanted to make a quick comment on dowel size. I've given up on buying just plain dowels. Not only are the sizes all over the place, but the wood that most are made from are just barely denser than balsa. I've had much better luck with the oak variety sold at the big box stores.
  8. Free lumber is always the best lumber. The place I buy my hardwoods from sells bags and boxes of their cutoffs for a couple bucks. You'd be amazed at the number of small projects I've made with that stuff, and the rest is firewood.
  9. The absolute best use of a smartphone that I've found!
  10. I went back and added that to my original response... after thought lol. I know that Woodcraft carries a brand of CA, but I'm not sure which.
  11. I've used a few containers, in varying viscosities, of Starbond adhesives and have always been happy with it. I just recently got a bottle of their black CA and have been using it to fill small cracks, works well. I've also used epoxy made by Bob Smith Industries and been happy, and I'm pretty sure they make CA also. I order both from Amazon.
  12. Wow, that is truly incredible! Amazing work.
  13. Great project! Looks like too artistic of painting skills for me to tackle.
  14. That's amazing! I can only dream of having those skills.
  15. I only did my first craft show this year. I did well enough to try more next year. I make mixed wood crafts, maybe only 15-20% being scroll sawed. What really made the day was the last sale of the day for $85... to my former work supervisor... trust me, I deserved it.
  16. Jeez, was 2 foot in your title all along? lol I feel like an idiot for not seeing that until now.
  17. As a dog lover, I think it's great all the way around!
  18. Great job! What's the overall height?
  19. Very cool!
  20. Looks great. I recently bought some very small screw eyes at Hobby Lobby, the opening was probably about 1/8" diameter.
  21. That sounds like an awesome deal! Any houses for sale in the neighborhood?
  22. Beautiful work! Anyone would be proud to put that on their tree.
  23. As long as it's good and dry, you can cover most finishes with shellac. That's one thing it used for is providing a barrier layer different finishes. From my experiences, poly goes over most oil finishes well, again as long as the first has cured. If the first isn't cured well enough the top coat can alligator... show crinkles and wrinkles. Poly and oil finishes share a lot of the same ingredients so they work well together.
  24. A comment that I'd like to make on danish oil is that you have to be careful using it on open grain woods like oak, ash, etc. It will soak into the pores and then "ooze" back out. This is no problem as long as you keep it wiped off. If you just wipe it off once or twice and then ignore it while it dries, you can end up with spots of dried finish that are a pain to remove. Don't ask how I know of these pitfalls.
  25. I've tried the laser printer transfer, both acetone and heat, before with hit and miss success. This could all be my fault, not saying it's not worth a try. A gentleman named Brad Rodriguez has a YouTube channel called "Fix this build that" and recently covered multiple ways of transferring to wood. I thought he did a good job and plan to try some of his methods in the future. Link to his video below. 5 ways to print to wood
