    What wood are you using? I find that the pine I use just won't hold together much smaller than what I am cutting now.

    A new style for the mothers rose, 3/4 ash rose tinted with food coloring ( I like the pastel look)

    I would also tape the waste pieces back in with clear tape. I keep a weighted dispenser for regular scotch tape and a modified tape gun (I removed the handle and clamped it to a bench) for 2" wide tape.

    I'm late to the party, but it's been a long day (trees came down today). To spray adhesive I use five furnace filters I stack them into an open sided box. Lay the pattern on the bottom filter and spray, the filters catch all the over spray and allow the pressure to dissipate through the filters (no blow back). I got a pop up spray booth just as it turned cold, so I haven't been able to use it. The spray booth's main point is that you can spray an item (or several) and then zip it closed so that no dust or debris gets on the sprayed item(s).

    I'm running Linux on my computer, and I picked up a used second monitor for cheap. I set them up to display side by side so I can watch the video (or pause) without having to switch tabs.

    I'm starting to be able to do things with Inkscape, now to retain the knowledge and not have to relearn again and again. Now that I can modify the text, I can use various words in combo with the rose (sweetheart, thankyou, and names/other languages). In my last pattern I was able to change the color the lines printed in (red) and I was able to add red dots to indicate where to drill (the dots were .035 diameter, so when drilled they disappear, making it easier to see if all the opening have been drilled (so easy to miss one or two)) Original pattern (mother) Steve Good, font on new word z003, 5/16" hardwood, FD #1 polar blade, BLO finish.

    No, it's an itch I HAVE to scratch. Until I found the method to figure it out I just had to let it itch, now? Down the rabbit hole.

    Once you have the drawing converted to paths, you can use Path > break apart to separate the drawing into individual objects. The total number of objects (holes) will be displayed in the bottom notification bar. Note, this can take some time for the program to process. I just did this on the "roses a bunch" pattern; 317.72 inches 118 objects. I'm still learning, so take all this with a grain of salt.

    So I cut this pattern this evening. 5/16" hardwood, FD #1 polar blade, glued directly to the wood, tape added as needed to support the pattern (next time I'll cut the inside first, outside last). Found a feature in Inkscape that will (I think) measure the length of all the lines in a pattern: File in svg mode; import, ungroup, trace bitmap (only use the bitmap image). Select the pattern then; extensions > visualize path > measure path (measurement type, length) Inkscape said that the total path(s) length was 242.78 inches (when I enlarged the pattern and remeasured the length increased proportionally). To compare, Splat Cat, came in at 412 inches. I took 90 minutes to cut out the pattern, so 90 x 60 = 5400 seconds / 242 inches is 22.31 seconds per inch cut. (Yes, my brain melted about then). The whole point of this exercise is my attempt to extrapolate how long it should take me to cut an unknown pattern. If I can get the extra big panels to work it's something I'll need to know.     I'm always curious if the way I cut impacts the blade life. To find out means keeping some sort of track of how long (or short) the blade life is. Yes comparing cutting inch thick plywood to 1/4 inch pine is apples to oranges, and simple shapes to lots of tight corners is the same. Even at a hobby level you still want to be fairly economical with the blade usage. And that means tracking, a least a little bit, of your blade usage.

    They just finished cleaning out the house next door (the neighbor passed away last year in a car accident), 5 construction dumpster loads plus a couple of trailer loads. I throw mine away.

    I was thinking of using the technique on ornaments. This technique, at present, cannot be done with a laser, so, no competition for this style.

    Charley, This is what I'm shooting for; I'm also having a big elm taken down and slabbed for project wood, I should get about 100, 16 to 20in wide up to 8' long planks 1/2" thick:

    I'm having issues with Windows 10, the printer is too old for it (2004). I just got it setup on the Linux machine, a few more bugs, then home free (I hope).

    Printer fired up just fine, the only "error" message was that two of the ink cartridges need to be replaced. No problem, I can get them from amazon $25 for a set of five (2 black 1 ea of the colors.) Now to get it to interface with the computers. Windows 10 recognizes the printer, but does not show a driver. I haven't tried the linux computer yet. (I irritated my back carrying parts and pieces into the house).

    I've been drooling over a used HP 500 printer at the local ReStore, they had it priced at $300. I went in today and they had dropped the price to $175....SOLD. This is a large format printer that uses rolls of paper that are 24" wide and 50' long. I intend to use this for the large scale live edge planks. It came with a large box of accessories and three extra rolls of paper!

    In other (expensive)( Coreldraw) programs most of these issues are taken care of by a "printer properties" file, Inkscape does not have this, neither does GIMP.

    If your printer can't do edge to edge printing, then you can this sub menu to account for that. If you had the margins set to 1/2 inch all around the page (you don't) then using the "resize to page" would shrink the image a small amount. So, this is not the issue.
