  1. I'm planning on adding a small rare earth magnet to the end so they can open my heart box with it. I have ten small (just under 1/4") that I can play with. these things are strong, will hold together with your finger in between. A new pattern has a box structure on the end with a rod coming out of it, I'm planning to replace the wood "rod" with a tower crystal.
  2. I wanted a unique name for these; My first name is Wichita, I named my business Wich and Wynn's Wonders (my ex-wife's name is Wynn), I shortened it to Wich's Wonders after the divorce. So, ta da, I'm going to call them Wich Sticks. These are Al Baggetta patterns; 1 inch square dowel, poplar, dark walnut and cherry stain, #1 polar FD blade. FYI My method of folding a 15" patterns is to use my 18" HF sheet metal brake, works like a charm. The sticks:
  3. I'd send them back. If you just have to have the patterns, see if there is an art business nearby with a vacuum press. Or, lay the pattern out on a flat surface use kraft paper to protect the pattern, then a sheet of plywood, then weights on the plywood, let set for a couple of days then check.
  4. So, I was having some issues with vibration and my new saw (Hegner 22"), I was going to move it to a new location, but while I was moving stuff around I noticed that the floor was bouncy. Checked a different area and the floor was not bouncy, I moved the saw to the non bouncy area and the vibration is gone, much much better.
  5. Frank, I had two reasons for the superglue; 1. when I glued the small piece in it was not possible to just glue the piece, there was some overflow, so I just continued and coated the whole piece. 2. I wanted to toughen and stabilize the piece. The superglue absorbed into the wood very readily and I didn't stick my fingers at all.
  6. Here is a custom unique piece at the request of a customer. It's a name in Arabic. 1 1/4" X 1/3/4" x 1/4 unknown wood, probably a maple. Cut with a FD polar # 2 followed by a spiral blade. Used bits of toothpicks to support the center of the right hand letter, used superglue to attach the piece; then a light coat of superglue on all surfaces, buffed and then 2 coats of clear, gloss, spar varnish:
  7. Very nice cutting.
  8. If I understand correctly, in the following image (from Steve Goods site) the football is a "positive" image; the lettering, lacing, bands, and figures are "negative" images.
  9. Back in the day. 1985, I started with a sears knockoff of a Dremel scrollsaw 13" used 3 inch pinned blades, 3 types available; 7 tpi, 20 tpi, and 25 tpi. Learned lots of tricks with that saw. It had an adjustable height table designed so you could use "all the blade". So I tried, results were never very satisfactory. Even tried starting in a raised position and moving down. Maybe it was just me...

  11. New ornament I will be cutting for this season, had some good responses to the prototype. It's an F bomb, so when you get so frustrated at x-mas time that you want to drop the F-bomb, you can go over to the tree and drop the f-bomb.
  12. The Clarke website is here: https://www.clarkeservice.co.uk/product_manuals/woodworker_scroll_saws.shtml I didn't see your saw listed, but there is a way to have them search their archives to see if they have a copy.
  13. HF has a set of wire size drill bits #63674 sizes 1 through 60 (60 being the smallest). I keep my set around so I know which is which. If you can, get cobalt alloy bits, they are pricey, but they are stiffer than anything else (less sideways flex) and have a high heat resistance.
  14. So, I would like to buy the e=book but now I can't find it, just dead links. Any updated info would be greatly appreciated.
  15. IMHO, if you want more content, post more. Ask questions, show your work, start conversation. I was a member of a local Co-op, it had over 12.000 members. Couldn't get more than 30 of the regulars to show up for an annual meeting. While I was in the National Guard they had trouble getting the Section chiefs to show up for pre-drill meetings. My point is that this goes on everywhere, not just here, not just woodworking.
  16. I would use magnets, HF has small powerful magnets about the size of a hearing aid battery. I would use two, opposite side and recess them. Put a recessed flat washer on the opposite side.

  18. Ordered the saw 3-17, delivered 3-23. Under a week, holy cow!. Assembled and running on the 23rd. Finally had some time to start cutting test patterns. I didn't have the table squared to the blade, but fixed that tonight. One of the things I cut uses a sliding dovetail 1 1/2 inches thick, so I cut some test ones in material just under an inch. Stacked 3/16" 4 in the stack so 12/16". The curvy thing is a "sky hook" a balance toy to amuse the kids. Some pictures:
  19. here are pics of my clamps (very new) note that the blade is more "centered". After checking the top screw and the blade tension you might try adjusting the set screw on the left hand side; I'm talking one or two thousands of an inch.
  20. I ordered the saw with the stand and the HLX7 accessory package.
  21. Just ordered a new Hegner 22" with the stand and accessory package. Hopefully I'll only cry once. I'll post updates as time allows.
  22. First time cutting one of these: Pattern from here, 1/8 BB, boiled linseed, FD ur#1
  23. The item on the stand is a stone, Lepidolite, and was worked to the present state. If she wants to replace the stone with a candle I'll definitely go with a holder. One of our dates was an artwalk, she was admiring the stone, so I went back the next day and bought it.
  24. Finnished up a present for the new girlfriend. 1/4 cherry, minwax cherry stain, FD polar #3, Steve Good pattern.
  25. I checked the HD website and it showed the local store had two. The store did not have two, it did not even have a slot for the item. I talked with a member of management that I know outside of HD and he started complaining to me about how bad the website/store products interface is.
