  1. Yep, me too. and the small lights on the sides as well. I've been tempted to slip down to H.F. buy the magnifying light and try it out, but so far the head band magnifier has been working good for me.
  2. "You got skills"
  3. Oh MAN! Now I've got to get another binder to add these kind of patterns to my collection of patterns I haven't yet cut out. NICE WORK!
  4. AMEN!
  5. Welcome from Dover, Delaware.
  6. Welcome to SSV from Dover, Delaware.
  7. Last year my wife got me a kerosine heater for the garage and it does make it tolerable . . . but adds to the cost of the addic, er, hobby - at $3.35 a gallon it adds up. Luckily my wife suggested using the heated mud room and that has been great. I use a box fan and filter set up right beside the scroll saw and it appears to be doing a good job of collecting the saw dust - I dusted around the room and didn't find any, so I'm good to go.
  8. Welcome from Dover, Delaware. There's a Woodcraft store about 30 miles north of me where I buy Baltic Birch plywood from when I'm in that area. Price is comparable to what I've found elsewhere and I'm satisfied with the quality.
  9. I predict you will lose lots of sleep from creating more masterpieces like this one. Really nice work.
  10. I'm always learning something. Got down to the background colors and started with a dye. It wasn't quite right so I took my wife's advise and tried some of her acrylic paint. Between the color still not being right and clumps of paint bits in the paint I decided to put it down and do my exericise while it was still light outside and good weather. While doing that it came to me to try and use colored paper. So here it is. I'm not thrilled with the football color - I think it's darker than it should be and a little blotchy, but hey, my wife likes it and my stepson is color blind, so Happy Wife, Happy life and I'm done. And now this little Santa helper wishes all of you a Merry Christmas!
  11. Hi Marg. Yes, I have her that option but she opted for the black. As the saying goes (and especially with family): The customer is always right
  12. My son is a die-hard Packers fan so I found a Steve Good pattern and this will be one of his presents this year. Wood is Poplar and it will be painted with the team colors. Don't know about anyone else, but for me I feel like cutting letters is the hardest cutting. I ain't fast at it, but the end result is it's readable, so it's worth the time it takes me. Used Pegas MGR #1 and #3 blades.

    Paris.

Yep - just the way I remember it. Ya done good!!
  14. What a cute and clever pattern. I think that you go over big in some of the boutique shops.
  15. I got a request from a sister-in-law to make a Firefighter wall hanging for her son-in-law. Sent her a few images off the web, and a Sue Mey pattern came in 1st place, with a modification - replace Firefighter with PM FD 27 (Perryville Municipal Fire Department, Station # 27). Between liquid white-out and Inkscape (I'm still learning the finer points of Inkscape), I was able to get the go-ahead to cut out the pattern. The cutout in the photo is on black poster board. I did cut out a backer the same size as the helmet and glued that to the back (and just now realized I didn't take a photo of that, dang it!) Anyway, no drama and the helmet is on its way to her. Used 1/4" BB and finished it with Danish Oil.
  16. Much better now, but for a different reason . . . The garage is now too chilly for me to scroll saw. So I proposed the thought to my wife of using the closed in and somewhat heated back porch. My wife, God bless her, countered with using the utility room instead, which is an even better location. Now I can use the money I would have spent on heating the garage to buy more wood and blades. I did however discover the scroll saw vibrated more on the utility room floor than on the concrete floor of the garage. That was a surprise. So I put a thick board between the floor and the Scroll Saw stand and that dampened the vibration to the point where it's hardly noticeable. I'm warm and life is good.
  17. OK, for a far-out idea . . . place it in back of a back lit aquarium filled with tinted water and an air stone at the bottom so it looks like the coke is fizzing. cover up the excess aquarium on the sides. Having written that, it occurs to me I probably should take my meds now.
  18. Welcome to the Village from the First State.

Really like "Horse Pals". Well Done (as always).
  20. I'm going to make this tip a Christmas present from SSV to myself. Thank you!
  21. Really (x3) nice cutting! And a good tip for me for next year!
  22. In a word: WOWZA!
  23. A friend of ours who knows I scroll saw asked me if I could make her a State of Delaware Christmas ornament and wanted 12 of them. Thanks to Inkscape and tips I found on the forum on how to use it, I was able to manufacture a pattern and cut out a dozen of them using 1/8" BB plywood. Finished them with Watco natural. I can see why some like making patterns as much as cutting them out.
  24. This is one of those little tidbits of information you just can't find anywhere else. Thanks for sharing!
  25. Maybe use a heat gun to loosen up the shelf liner glue, and oh yes, sand the BB before putting on the shelf liner. That one made a difference for me.
