  1. I know what you mean. We recently had 10 trees taken down from our property around out house (terrible drainage problem, but that is another story) and last Wednesday a friend and I got a rental log splitter for the day and made a huge pile of firewood in the front yard. I slept like a baby that night. Next day was spent imitating an old man with arthritis. Saturday and Sunday found me getting my steps in, moving the wood to the back yard and stacking it. I didn't have any trouble sleeping those nights either. Worked out to 3 cords of wood, 6 alieve tablets, and knowing I don't want to do that again.
  2. Pretty sure I am the "new kid on the block." joined near the start of this year. And you guys and gals have been wonderful in helping me get started in my scroll sawing. Beginning with years of posts with your opinions, experiences, and references when it comes to information about wood, equipment, cutting techniques, patterns, and finishing the cut out pieces. Then when I got my used machine you helped out by confirming I wasn't going crazy and offered up trouble shooting advice. It was a little like having someone by my side as I opened up the machine and started to find the offending part (it was the connecting rod). So, Lord willing, I'll be around awhile and hopefully one day be able to offer up something helpful. Thanks to Travis for making this possible and to all of you for being there!
  3. This Steve Good video shows a locking mechanism what could possibly(?) be adapted to the candle base. P.S. I made the Penny Drop and it's a fun game to play. You can modify the rules to play a variety of ways.
  4. Both are attractive, however for me, I think the tie-breaker of picking one over the other needs to consider the environment (background, lighting, etc.) they will be displayed on. (Oh fudge! I just heard myself, and I'm starting to sound like my wife when it comes to her decorating ideas.)

    Nodes and Editing

Very interesting! I'm going to see if I can import a clip art and then modify it using the node editing function.
  7. OMG! I just picked up a copy of this guide from the library and Wowz-ah! With em-pha-sis on "Complete"! This will be nightly reading for quite some time. 286 pages and a nice resource listing too.

    Aligning Our Objects

Working my way through the lessons and see some features that are also in the Brother Scan n' Cut program and also Photo Shop Elements. Curious to see if I can export something made here and use it on the Scan n' Cut program. On to the next lesson.

    Giraffe

The giraffe is one of the perfect animals for showing off the capabilities of the scroll saw. And you nailed it!

    Creating Simple Shapes

Then I'll be the first in this upgrade and migration to say "Thanks for your contribution to helping me understand Inkscape!
  12. I'm hooked! Will add to my list.
  13. It reminds me of "Where's Waldo? in that you want to keep looking to see how much stuff you can recognize . . . And MAN, is THAT A LOTTA STUFF!!! Excellent job. Reward yourself!
  14. Hey there! I really like that 3rd one - it keeps you looking . An engaging piece - now to find the pattern.
  15. Holy Smak-a-Roni! That is WAY COOL! I need to clone myself - too many patterns I like and only one of me.!
  16. My wife is a nurse, so this is especially nice for me.
  17. I just finished cutting out another cupcake holder for my sister-in-law saw. And experienced the same thing you did using the Duck brand shelf liner - hard to release - had to use mineral spirits even after removing the paper pattern. I think the manufacturer is using a different formula adhesive. I experienced the same thing a couple weeks ago, but in my book, two is a trend, so I'm going to up my patience level when it comes to removing the patterns to avoid ripping up any of the plywood.

  20. That's a really cool design. First time I've seen that style.
  21. Not sure if this qualifies, but here tis anyhoo... Another Steve G. pattern on 1/4" BB.
  22. Another fine work of art! Well done!!!
  23. You hit another home run!
  24. Whew! That's is a lot of patience! Well Done!!!
  25. Is there such a thing as optimal viewing distance? Here's another Steve Good pattern I enlarged to 12"x15" on 1/4" Maple ply. Was a little disappointed when I first looked at it after the last cut - it didn't have that 3D effect. Then I took it inside and showed it to my wife, setting it up a few feet away from her and we looked at it again, and Viola! (presto) - the 3D effect was more pronounced. Kinda makes me wish I had made it smaller now.
