  1. Welcome to the Village from the east coast (Delaware).
  2. And it works! You can turn it in a complete circle over and over and . . . Saw this on Steve Good's website and it grabbed me right away. What should have been a one day project turned into 3 - Murphy's Law paid me a visit with the tension knob not tightening. It's doing its job now, but I need to order a new one. The underside where the tension rod is - well, the indentations that the tension rod sleeve catches on were just about worn smooth. I noticed if I apply downward pressure while applying tension, it will tighten up just fine. If I just move the tension knob horizontally, it doesn't take up the tension like it is supposed to. Anyway, I had a happy ending once I got that sorted out. Thinking of staining/painting the support and base a darker color and just doing a clear coat on the shells.
  3. That's some clean cutting! Looks good.
  4. You are one cool cat! And it looks like the scroll saw gods were smiling upon you. Wow!
  5. Welcome to the Village!

    Bear Woods

My initial order of 6 sample packs of different blade types. The price was right and delivery didn't take long.
  7. Me, I'm recycling the too little pieces (not plywood) into the woodstove.
  8. First time I've seen one like this. Good job.
  9. Another Steve Good pattern I had to try. Used Pegas #5ST blade on 3/4inch pine for the honeycomb and #3ST for the 1/4 inch honeybee. A trip to the local craft store for the green felt and finished with Satin Poly. Originally stained the honeybee with too dark a color and wound up using the wife's acrylic paint after sealing it. Which leads me into a whole 'nother lot learning to do when it comes to wood/stain/paint/etc. etc. etc.

    Gear Box

    Yep! It works!!
  11. Being a veteran myself, I salute you and your work. Well done!
  12. Looks like weeks of work went into the details, all well executed!
  13. You nailed it! Another type of woodwork for me to explore.
  14. I am NOT showing my wife this - she'll want one too and I'm not there yet. Simply beautiful!
  15. Needed a box for the granddaughter's puzzle horse I made earlier and came across this Steve Good box pattern. The gears were a good exercise in making turns. Used a metal nut and bolt to hold the large gear - it provided more stability instead of a wooden dowel. Used blue loctite to keep the nut on at just the right tightness. Sidenote: After cutting this one out, I cleaned out the air filter I have on box fan by the saw and was AMAZED at how much sawdust came out when I rapped the filter from the back. I had cut out another pattern earlier, but still - am now a believer in using some kind of dust collection system while sawing, even if occasionally. Can't imagine how much sawdust you folks generate who do this for a living. You could have a wood pellet business on the side! Anyway, getting better at finding that "sweet spot" when it comes to hand and finger placement when moving the wood as I cut. Oh, and made a blade holder out of some old copper pipe and wood I have from the old house. Got a kick out of making something without having to make a trip to the box store.
  16. I don't have a drill press (yet). And I have difficulty drilling a straight hole- discovered when I started making starter holes with my hand drill for the practice pieces I was working on. So, I looked around and found the Dremel Plunge Router. Just got it in today and tried it out. I like it - small and portable and easy to use with small drill bits. And who knows, I might even use it one day to do some routing work.
  17. You should call it an art gallery and charge admittance! That looks like a LOTTA hours and a whole LOTTA sawdust!
  18. WOWsa! you have been busy! Very Good looking work.
  19. Adorable! and then some!!!
  20. Ya done GOOD!
  21. Welcome to the Village - I'm sure you will pick up some good info here.
  22. Finally got my #3 blades in the mail and started on this. 3/4" Pine with the Horse letters of the pattern still on. Another Steve Good piece. This will add to our granddaughter's collection, who has a bazillion toy horses already. This was fun to do and I'm sure I'll be making more puzzles.
  23. Danny, I got the pattern from Steve Good's website. Along with a ba-zillion other ones I hope to cut out. Just got my order of blades in the mail today. Now, if life (Murphy's Law) will leave me alone, I can get to some of them.
  24. Hi, I found this in my download folder while housekeeping my folders and remembered this message. The list is not complete but I thought it might help a little, drill size wise. SS_BLADE_CHART_2-22-2013.pdf
  25. Me too! My wife has a smart phone and I figure one in the family is enough.
