  1. Very nice, Ralph. Will you keep that or give it to your niece?
  2. Yes, the wood grain adds a lot to this piece. Beautiful piece.
  3. The picture itself is beautiful yet you turned it into a work of art. Great job, Kris.
  4. Wow! That many compressed letters on Emma's piece had to be tricky. Great job!
  5. Excellent piece, Frank!
  6. Very nice cutting, Charlie. I do like me some Garth!
  7. One hole at a time, Ralph. One hole at a time. Actually I had about three or four pieces that were very tempermental. After I cut them, I put a piece of tape over them to help hold them in place and also to remind me where the "tender" areas were. Since my saw has a fixed upper arm I was afraid I would knock a piece out when trying to feed blades. If I did have a piece that was really loose, I would touch it with super glue to give it a little strength. Fortunately everything ended okay.
  8. I really came about them unexpected. I was at a friends house (barn) purchasing hay for my horses and noticed a large rack of the picture frame material. I asked him about it and he said his son had purchased the lot from a picture frame company that was going out of business and he wished his son would get it out of the barn. I told him if he ever decided to get rid of it to let me know. He told me to take it so I did. That was probably 20 years ago and it has been in my barn ever since. A lot of the pre-finished pieces are scratched pretty bad and others damaged from shuffling around over the years but as much as I have, I'm able to sort through and pick out enough for the frames I'm building. Wish you were near by. I'd be happy to share some with you.
  9. I use rattle can spray so I don't have to worry about brush marks. I buy my black gloss and clear gloss by the case from Walmart. Cheaper there than Amazon or the box stores in my area. I like the way this turned out so I guess I'll have to include flat black to my list the next time I order. I did notice the flat black picked up little dings and smudges a lot easier than gloss. Just have to be more careful.
  10. Thanks so much but I can only credit it to the fantastic pattern.
  11. So sorry for your loss and my prayers will be that you find comfort in your memories with Connie. There is no doubt the two projects will be recognized by all that they are your lovely wife. Peace be with you, friend.
  12. Glad to see you can get back on the saw, Paul. Yes, I understand how that song can get into your head. It did the same with me and I ended up cutting Frank's pattern also. I'm glad to see you were referring to "tennis" balls. I was thinking when I read you message that my dogs have been neutered. Anyway, you did a great job and I like the addition of the roses. If there was a mistake with the letters on the "ball" tender, I surely didn't see it.
  13. Very interesting read, John. Thanks for sharing.
  14. When I was doing the finish on my stagecoach project I wanted something to cut while the stains, finishes or glue was drying. This is an 8 1/2 X 11 pattern by Grampa that I double stack cut using 1/4 Maple and 1/4 Oak ply. The Maple was finished with Minwax Colonial Pine stain and finished with 5 coats of clear gloss spray sanded between cuts. The Oak was finished with Minwax Natural stain and also has 5 coats of clear gloss spray. Something I did a little different is I sprayed the Birch backer with flat black rather than my typical gloss black. Both frames are pre-manufactured framing material that I cut to size. I used a Pegas 0 spiral blade. This was a lot of fun to cut after the more demanding requirements of the stagecoach. Thanks Grampa!
  15. Wow, Elzera! Awesome job... especially being inlay. I can't detect any flaws.
  16. This is the Jim Blume stagecoach I've been working on. The darker one is 1/4 Oak ply and the lighter one is 1/4 Birch ply They were cut by stacking and using Pegas 2/0 spiral blades. I lost count on the number of blades. My upper arm does not lift and the pieces are so large I would inevitably bend the blade when trying to feed them which eventually caused them to break. The Oak was finished with Minwax Colonial Pine stain while the Birch was finished with Minwax Natural stain. Both have a 1/4 Birch ply backer painted black. Each also has six coats of clear with light sanding with 600 grit between coats. Both frames are pre-made framing material. The darker of the two originally had a rough gray finish. I gave it a light sanding and then covered it with Minwax Espresso stain. I then gave it 2 coats of clear. The lighter one is Maple stained with Minwax Natural and also has two coats of clear. Both frames have shim splines in the corners to add strength. Total time including the frames I have about 40 hours in these pieces but I feel they were worth every minute. Thanks again to Jim Blume for a fantastic pattern! By the way, the reason the Oak piece is facing the opposite direction is because I messed up when I stacked them and put the finish side face down rather than face up.
  17. Very nice pieces, Danny. Like others, I'm partial to the eagle but both turned out great.
  18. The people on this forum continue to amaze me with their talent. Those are fantastic projects, Tbow. Love the bowl.
  19. Never seen any better cutting of letters. Beautiful!
  20. Great job, Eric. I'll have to look up that pattern.
  21. Excellent, Barb! You're knocking out some gnomes.

Great job! I really like the finish. If it had a little more orange and yellow, it would almost look like flames.
  23. Just tell people the label messed him up! Great cutting, though. Sorry it happened. May try flipping it around and removing the rear label or painting it so you don't mess up the primary label. Forgive my ignorance. I went back and looked closer at your picture and saw that is on the back.
  24. Beautiful, Ralph. Love the wood grain. Your finish is superb!
  25. Denny, I have thanked you in the past for your dedicated service to the scroll saw community. Again, Dave's issue is a great example of your outstanding customer service. I thank you for this and look forward to our business dealings in the future.
