  1. Today I tried cutting a Christmas ornament on red cedar. As I was cutting the sawdust was covering the lines on the pattern. My air blower was not blowing the sawdust off the line. Is this normal when cutting red cedar? Is there oil in red cedar that sticks to the pattern? Had to use a brush to brush sawdust off the pattern. Doesn't stick when cutting other wood. Do any of you have issues cutting red cedar? I have never used red cedar before. The red cedar was in a sample of different woods that I purchased about 3 years ago. Thanks, Jerry Walters
  2. Looks great Dan. I remember my mother always had a Christmas village under the tree. Do you remember those villages that were made I think from cardborard. They all had hores in the back where lights could be inserted. They also were painted various colors with some kind of sparkly stuff on them, I don't think it was glitter. When I was a kid you could always get them at Woolworth. This was back in the 40's and 50's. Jerry
  3. Very nice Barb. Jerry
  4. Joe, I admire your using your wife's lipstick as a marking device. Just goes to show the inganuity of the folks here at SSV. Jerry
  5. Impressive Kevin, impressive!!! Jerry
  6. This has been a most interesting conversation. What I gleaned from this is that there is no right or wrong or fast or slow. For many of us this is a hobby, one to enjoy in our retirement years. For those of you who do this for a living, my hats off to you and I salute you. Some of my friends ask me if I would be interested in showing my work at craft shows. I tell them no, not interested. Why, because once I have commitment to fill, this hobby ceases to be fun. Like I said, I learned a lot from this conversation. Kevin, I did enjoy your video. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and happy scrolling. Jerry
  7. Thank you Jimmy. I have been looking for something along these lines.
  8. I would like to see some pictures of what you did. Jerry
  9. I'm with Barb, I don't see how it can be cut in 20 minutes. I guess if I were doing it for a living I would learn. If the clock you are taling about is the praying hands with the cross I have done 3 or 4 of these. Just pure cutting time for me is about 90 minutes. Jerry
  10. Very nice Ron. Because of you posting I have purchased a couple of patterns from toymakingplans. Anxious for the new year to arrive to I can try my hand at making some of these vehicles. If I can do half as good as you do I will be happy. Jerry
  11. WOW Dan, happy to hear things went so well. Looking at the pictures you really have a nice display set up and your work looks top notch. Jerry
  12. Really nice Rodney. Jerry
  13. Outstanding. I really like he version of Wonderful World. I know many of us do not think it is a wonderful world, but I believe it is. Jerry
  14. Frank, I wish I had 10% of your talent. Jerry
  15. Brian, I just noticed the first line of your posting had who the pattern was from. Sorry I had to ask. Jerry
  16. You and I are in the same boat. I don't know any other scrollers, that is why I'm so happy to be on SSV. Lots of help lots of information. Where did you get the Pattern?
  17. Brian, those look great. I remember my dad wearing those poppys. People were on the streets of our town handing them out. I was young and I didn't know what they were for. I just remember my dad seemed to wear them with pride and I thought they looked very neat. I'm certain yours will be very much appreciated. Jerry
  18. Boy, that looks great. Anxiouly waiting for the next project to be completed and posted. Jerry
  19. Look great Jimmy. Jerry
  20. Travis, Thank you for the opportunity to purchase this kit. For me, this is the first time since I have been scrolling that I am trying to make some ornaments. I also really appreciate your video using inkscape, that in itself was worth the price of the kit. I even purchased the kit for animals. Most of my friends have pets that are part of their family. I have been using inkscape for about a year, but this video has really helped me. I even learned how to add a year to the designs. So far I have made patterns for about 25 of my family and friends. Supposed to get warmer next week so I will be busy. Thanks again Travis. Jerry
  21. Tyler, I have to say I always enjoy your videos. I learn a lot. I also like how you go against the grain, and I don't mean wood grain. You use different woods, different sizes, which think kinka goes against the grain in the scrolling community. It is not often you see work done on 3/4 inch pine, but I tend to like the looks of it on certain projects. I know 3/4 inch pine for Christmas ornaments for the tree would not be good, but I think it really looked good for the Christmas candles on this video. Jerry
  22. That looks great. Jerry
  23. Jimmy, that is might fine scrolling. My advice to you is when you find yourself having some issues just take a break. Watch a good western or somthing to make you laugh. Maybe even a walk. When you get back to it you will find everything seems to fall into place. Jerry
  24. When I was confirmed our class song was "His Eye is on the Sparrow". Within the song are the words "and I know He watches me". Jerry
  25. Thanks Ron.
